Shawn Alethea told the sentinel wolves following him to wait outside while he got into the dungeon where the rogue wolves were. The road leading inside was dark and the atmosphere stunk but Shawn just grabbed a piece of wood and tapped some fire from the fireplace at the entrance which was their only source of light.
