C17 Not Brother and Sister

Chu Yinyin obviously didn't believe it. After all, Gu Tianqi was the CEO of Gu Group-the largest corporation in China! There was no way he'd scold Du Xiaoxiao like some teacher lecturing a student.

But with Du Hengyu around, she didn't dare speak another word. If her younger brother would find out what happened, then he'd go in a fit of rage. And if there's anyone Du Xiaoxiao cared about, it's her brother. Angering them would only complicate things even further. "If you say so," she simply said and turned away.

As soon as she had returned home, Du Xiaoxiao patted her brother's shoulder. "I'll get you a slice of cake, all right?"

"Get me a bigger slice!" he hollered before entering his room. The door closed right behind him, and his face immediately darkened. Grabbing a leather book from the backpack, he drew another red line over one of the names. His lips shaped into a smirk.

Practice...

Now that he had defeated around twenty people, he had ten more to go. Soon enough, he'd be able to pass the test. Soon, he'll be able to protect his family.

"The cake's ready!" Du Hengyu didn't even hesitate as he threw the notebook to the side and removed his shirt. The faint smell of blood still stuck to its fabric, but luckily, none of them had caught it.

Du Xiaoxiao pushed open the door, but as soon as she saw him naked, she immediately screamed. She looked away. "What the heck are you doing?"

"It's not like you've never seen me before."

"Just put on your clothes." She rolled her eyes. "How many times have I told you not to remove your clothes with other people around? It's disrespectful to your elders, you know."

Du Hengyu didn't seem bothered as he hugged her from behind. They had always been very close ever since they were kids, so they had never really been uncomfortable with each other's appearance.

"Sister, I'm hungry," he whined. His eyes widened at him, like a young boy pleading with his elder. Only in front of his sister was he able to relax. "Why don't you cook me up some pork trotters?"

Here, he could finally relax and forget all about his day. There wasn't any suspicions or hatred towards them, and he always know that they had each other's back–no matter what.

"You may have your other girls fooled, but don't forget that I'm your sister." Du Xiaoxiao thumped him on the head. "I'm immune to your pleas, so you can plead all you want–you won't be getting any pork trotters."

He pursed his lips. "But I thought you like them too, right? Pretty please?"

She sighed. This man really knew how to eat. After handing the slice of cake to him, she helplessly waved her hand. "How about this? If you take a bath now, I'll buy some pork trotters for our dinner, okay?"

Du Hengyu leaned against the door. His dark hair fell in front of his eyes as he gazed at her retreating figure. The corners of his lips twitched, and he couldn't help but burst into laughter.

Although she appeared to be very firm, she still doted on him. She was his older sister after all.

But in reality, no one could've ever guessed that they were brother-and-sister. They looked completely different. While he looked firm, she appeared soft and gentle. That's because they weren't biological siblings at all.

Du Xiaoxiao was the daughter of the Lu Family, but his identity...it was a little more complicated than that.

But it didn't matter.

Du Xiaoxiao was the only one who had ever given a home he could call his. His biological family, on the other hand, was like a shadow that trampled over him like he was nothing. They had turned him cold and unfeeling, that was...until he met her.

Unaware of his thoughts, she stomped into the kitchen with a frown.

"That stinking brat is always so hungry. I swear, what would he do without me?"

With such a sweet younger brother in the family, she didn't really know how to deal with him. Could this brat have been a fox demon in his previous life–one who was meant to torture her? Shaking her head, she began to cook. Whatever what's best was that he was happy.

After dinner, Du Xiaoxiao returned to her room and fell asleep. She had to head to work at eight o'clock, so she might as well be on time.

While she was sleeping soundly, Du Hengyu tossed and turned in his room, unable to sleep. The night was probably the most restless time in his day. His fingers fidgeted as he sat up, obviously, a bit frumpled.

At this one, even he couldn't control his physical needs.

Having no other choice, he decided to settle it himself.

His lips thinned and his Adam's apple rolled down his throat. His movements became even faster as he let his hand do all the work. His other hand clenched on his sides, and his breathing had become even more ragged.

"Hengyu?" Just then, a voice came from the other side of the door. "Are you okay? I thought I heard some rats scuttling–"

"I..." Du Hengyu almost jolted from his bed. He was still so consumed by his emotions that he almost tripped on his shorts. Hurriedly pulling up his shorts, he stuttered, "N–no, it's just a small cockroach. Don't worry...I–I've already killed it."

Why did she wake up? Did she hear him?

Du Xiaoxiao furrowed her eyebrows. "Okay, just make sure to wrap it up with tissue and throw it away, okay?"

"I...Got it, Sis, good night." He patted his cheeks in embarrassment, hoping that the warmth would fade away.

"Right, good night." She finally returned back with a teddy bear in her arms.

Du Hengyu sighed in relief.

He was lying on the bed, staring up the ceiling. "It's best that I keep these feelings to myself," he murmured to himself, clutching his chest. It was likely that she wouldn't feel the same way anyway. Better to be here to protect her than not at all, right?

His emotions had already changed throughout the years, and there were so many conflicting thoughts crowding in his heart. But this was just something that Du Xiaoxiao didn't have to know.

He didn't want to ruin the friendship they already have.

With a light sigh, Du Hengyu finally closed his eyes.

Du Xiaoxiao woke up the next morning at seven o'clock. She stepped out of the house, basking under the sun. The corners of her lips stretched into a wide smile as she skipped along the sidewalk. How could she not be in a good mood? After all, she finally got a job!

Even though Gu Tianqi had forced her to take this, she was still in a good mood. Might as well do this job well, right?

After taking the bus and strolling down the streets, Du Xiaoxiao even arrived at the restaurant in advance. She waited until nine o'clock till Charm Restaurant officially opened, and she followed the lobby manager inside.

It was a little awkward from their conversation the other day, but soon enough, she could feel the atmosphere relaxing around her.

"It's a good thing you came on time too," Zhang Su said with a smile. He looked to be around his early thirties with his creased forehead and warm eyes. "Why don't I take you to your senior?"

Looking around the second floor, Du Xiaoxiao walked past the table where the 'incident' had transpired. Yesterday's memories flashed back like a tidal wave, and she could feel her face heating up.

Now's not the time! Besides, she needed to forget about everything that had happened from yesterday.

After listening to his instructions, she immediately received her uniform.

As soon as they reached the end of the line, Zhang Su clasped her shoulder. "This is Wang Dandan, your senior," he stated. "You should change into your unfirm and learn from her, all right?"

"All right." She bowed her head. "Senior, please guide me."

Wang Dandan looked to be a few years older than her. She had already stayed in Charm Hotel for some time, and it was obvious that working there had already made her arrogant. She crossed her arms over her chest. "You're so small, and your uniform doesn't even fit you." She cocked up an eyebrow. "How do you work anyway?"

"I..." She smiled awkwardly. "I'll work extra hard."
