C10 Find Someone to Settle Old Scores!
She said something? What did she say?
Wen Mian looked at Yih Qianbo with a puzzled expression, her mind racing.
Suddenly, a conversation replayed in her mind...
"Tonight, I'm taking care of you! Looking this good and still not getting any attention? That's just not right!"
"You want to take care of me?"
"Yeah, you heard right. I've got you covered tonight, don't worry, I won't let you down!"
"Well, thank you."
And so she did. She covered the room fee and even brought protection. Most importantly, she had just generously offered to pay Yih Qianbo back.
Now, as the saying goes, she lost both the lady and the soldiers. Is it too late for regrets?
Thinking about it, Wen Mian slowly raised her hands to cover her face, which looked worse than crying.
Yih Qianbo watched her regretful expression and couldn't help but chuckle softly. He reached out, gently pulling her hands away from her face, and with a mischievous grin, leaned in close to her ear...
"Everything's about fairness. You spent the night with me yesterday, so today... shouldn't you return the favor?"
As he finished speaking, Yih Qianbo playfully nibbled on her neck, sending a shiver down Wen Mian's spine.
"Yih Qianbo, you're too much..."
Before she could finish her sentence, her lips were captured in a firm kiss by Yih Qianbo.
His arm wrapped around her like a serpent, pulling her closer as the kiss deepened. The relentless onslaught left Wen Mian breathless, her cheeks flushed a deep crimson.
"Mian, are you in there? Are you okay?" The voice was as refreshing and pure as a summer breeze.
Wen Mian's tense, struggling body went limp the moment she heard Gu Zhijian's voice. Yih Qianbo sensed the change in the woman in his arms and gradually pulled away, giving her lower lip a gentle nibble before releasing her.
He glanced toward the door, a cold smile playing on his lips. "So, the little wild cat has a weakness beyond the bedroom? I'll let you off the hook today, but next time... you won't be so lucky."
With that, he straightened his suit in the mirror and, not so gently, led the still-dazed Wen Mian out of the restroom.
The moment Gu Zhijian saw Yih Qianbo and Wen Mian emerge together, his expression darkened. Wen Mian pressed her lips tightly together, unable to find words as she faced the still-imposing Gu Zhijian.
Yih Qianbo gave Gu Zhijian a polite nod, while Gu Zhijian forced a stiff smile.
"Director Yih... what brings you here?" His voice lacked confidence, and the smile on his lips was painfully strained.
Yih Qianbo's lips curled slightly as he turned to look at Wen Mian, who seemed lost in thought. "Time to settle old scores," he said.
Gu Zhijian's mouth twitched, and his gaze returned to Wen Mian. The blush on her neck struck a chord deep within him.
"In my eyes, he's not worthy of being your weakness. Remember, you owe me," Yih Qianbo murmured, leaning in to whisper in her ear, his voice calm.
With that, he flashed a smile at Gu Zhijian and walked away, leaving only Wen Mian and Gu Zhijian in the long corridor. Their heartbeats seemed almost audible in the silence.
Wen Mian's head was still spinning, but Yih Qianbo's words had brought some clarity.
"Will you forgive me?" Gu Zhijian asked, stepping closer, his eyes deep and his tone somber.
"Ah, Mayor Gu," Wen Mian replied, suppressing her inner turmoil and greeting him formally.
"Mian, I hope you can..."
"Sorry, it's the end of my workday. I can't chat with you now, Mayor Gu," Wen Mian said with a slight nod and a faint smile before turning to leave.
Gu Zhijian pressed his lips together, words unspoken, as he watched her walk away, ultimately saying nothing.
Wen Mian felt a twinge of disappointment when Gu Zhijian didn't follow her. If that was the case, why did he ask if she would forgive him? Was his sincerity just those few indifferent words?
Looking up at the sky, which seemed even darker under the dazzling lights, Wen Mian sighed softly. Perhaps this was truly the end for her and Gu Zhijian. Maybe it was for the best; she had long considered them strangers, and as strangers, there was no need for further interaction.
"Manager Wen, your car is here," the valet's voice pulled Wen Mian back to reality. She took the keys from him, thanked him, and was about to get in the car.
"I'll drive you," Gu Zhijian said, placing his hand on the car door to block her way. His deep voice carried genuine concern. "You've been drinking; you shouldn't drive."
"Doesn't Mayor Gu have official business to attend to? How do you have time to chat with me?" Wen Mian didn't argue with him. Instead, she looked up with a generous smile, her delicate face flushed with a hint of red, making Gu Zhijian wonder if she was indeed tipsy.
"I have something to say to you. Can you give me a chance?" Gu Zhijian frowned, his dark eyes filled with a hint of pain. "I know I was wrong back then, I..."
"Mayor Gu," Wen Mian interrupted, rubbing her slightly dizzy temples. Her tone was calm as she dismissed his words. "There's nothing to discuss between us. I don't feel like we know each other that well."
After speaking, he turned to the valet nearby and said, "Could you please call a driver for me?"
"No need, Manager Wen can ride with me," Gu Zhijian said coldly, casting a sharp glance at the valet.
The valet, understanding the situation, put away his phone and quietly stepped back.
"Can you please listen to me? I'm serious," Gu Zhijian pulled Wen Mian into a secluded corner, looking at her earnestly, his eyes almost pleading.
As she took in Gu Zhijian's handsome features, Wen Mian, whose resolve was already wavering, responded with a seemingly heartless remark, "As serious as you were when you left without a word?"
"Mian, I..." Gu Zhijian lowered his head, his handsome face filled with pain and reluctance, seemingly regretful for leaving back then.
"Go ahead," Wen Mian said. Despite everything, she couldn't bear to see the man she once truly loved so lost and helpless. She thought she could be ruthless.
"Ever since I left, I've regretted it. I've been thinking about you constantly, but I didn't know how to come back to you. I thought that if I achieved something in my career, maybe you'd forgive me," Gu Zhijian took a deep breath, as if releasing words that had been suppressed for a long time. "I'm sorry, Mian. It was my fault. I know I shouldn't ask for your forgiveness, but I can't let you go. I miss you so much..."
Each word from Gu Zhijian struck Wen Mian's heart, slowly warming what had long grown cold since his departure.
