C14 He Came to Find You Again
If she remembered correctly, it was Yih Qianbo who opened the door last night. He even gave her house key to his assistant to make a copy. Yeah, once she wakes up, she definitely needs to change the locks—maybe to a keypad lock... no, a fingerprint lock! She had to make sure this shameless scoundrel was locked out!
"Well said, no matter how much you regret it, it's useless."
Yih Qianbo let out a cold chuckle, his furrowed brow relaxing in an instant. His distinct fingers gently lifted Wen Mian's delicate chin, leaning down to kiss her slightly parted lips, softly but with a hint of punishment. He declared, word by word, "Because you're already mine, and I won't let anyone take you away from me, not a chance."
Even in her exhaustion, Wen Mian heard Yih Qianbo's words. But she was so drowsy that she thought she was dreaming, subconsciously hoping she'd never have such a nightmare again.
When Wen Mian woke up again, Yih Qianbo was gone. It really felt like a dream. If not for the mess everywhere and the crumpled sheets reminding her, she might have thought it was all her imagination. But facts were facts!
Rubbing her throbbing temples, Wen Mian lay back down. She was so tired. A little more sleep would be good.
The doorbell rang again, pulling Wen Mian back from her cozy slumber. It rang insistently, urging her to answer.
"Tai Kefei, are you trying to summon the dead?" Wen Mian grumbled, her eyes barely open. "With all that doorbell ringing and knocking, you should consider a career in demolition!"
"Wow! What happened to you?" Tai Kefei exclaimed, eyes wide as she took in Wen Mian's pale face, messy hair, and disheveled clothes. Her hand froze mid-knock. "Did you get into a fight last night?"
"You’re the one who got into a fight, your whole family did!" Wen Mian shot back, exhausted. "It's so early, can't a person get some sleep?"
"Early? Do you even know what time it is?" Tai Kefei opened her mouth, then suddenly gasped as if she'd discovered something shocking. "Oh my gosh, what happened to your neck? Those red marks weren't there yesterday!"
Wen Mian quickly covered her neck, blushing. "Wha...what are you talking about? You must be seeing things. I have stuff to do, so I can't entertain you. Goodbye!" She started pushing Tai Kefei toward the door.
In her mind, she cursed Yi Qianbo's ancestors for several generations.
Tai Kefei quickly grabbed the doorframe. "Wait a minute, Mian Mian, did you hire a gigolo again last night?"
"That never happened! Last night, it was the guy who came looking for me!" Wen Mian raised her voice in protest.
Honestly, it was just a drunken mistake the other night. She never intended to have any connection with a one-night stand. If she'd known the guy she hooked up with was Yih Qianbo, she wouldn't have touched him even if she were dead drunk.
And now, not only did he take full advantage of her, but he also wouldn't leave her alone. What kind of trouble is this?
Watching Wen Mian's face turn from red to black, Tai Kefei smacked her lips and gave her best friend a thorough once-over. "Wow, Mian Mian, you're usually so calm. What's gotten into you today? I only said a couple of things, and you're already flipping out. Who did you run into? Was it that guy from the other night? Did he come looking for you again?"
Tai Kefei winked at Wen Mian, her eyes full of mischief. "Come on, tell me, was he that good? Is that why you can't stop thinking about him and invited him over again last night?"
Wen Mian rolled her eyes, tempted to give Tai Kefei a good smack. "If you want to know, I'll give you his contact info. You can try him out yourself." Wen Mian retorted with a huff. She had no desire to have anything more to do with Yih Qianbo and wished she could kick him out of the galaxy, never to cross paths again.
Impulsiveness is a real problem. Acting out after drinking is something I definitely need to avoid from now on!
"No way, I'm not interested in him like that. I'm not like that backstabbing Ziqian, who goes after guys right under her nose, even her best friend's fiancé." Tai Kefei waved her hand, quickly dismissing the idea. "If you don't want to talk about it, fine. I know I guessed right anyway. But it seems like that guy really wore you out. Even though we're all young and full of energy, as your best friend, I have to advise you to take it easy..."
"Stop!" Wen Mian couldn't listen to Tai Kefei's lecture any longer and quickly interrupted, changing the subject. "What brings you here in such a hurry? Why didn't you just call if it was urgent?"
The sudden knocking had startled Wen Mian, who hadn't slept well all night, leaving her on edge. Now that she was relaxing, all her discomforts were starting to resurface.
"Your phone was off. Mo Qian was worried when you didn't show up for work and couldn't reach you. He's heading overseas for business this afternoon and asked me to check on you." Tai Kefei shrugged, stepping into Wen Mian's home and closing the door behind her. "I didn't expect to find you sleeping."
"Oh, I forgot. I must have turned off my phone today." Remembering a call from Gu Zhijian earlier, Wen Mian ran a hand through her hair, feeling a bit annoyed. "I fell back asleep after turning it off. Please thank Mo Qian for me."
"What's the point of thanking me? They're concerned about you." Walking into the kitchen, Tai Kefei grabbed two bottles of water from the fridge, handing one to Wen Mian. "I heard Gu Zhijian is back. Have you seen him?"
"Yeah." Hearing Gu Zhijian's name felt like a jolt to Wen Mian's heart. She replied absentmindedly, clearly not wanting to discuss it.
"Yeah, what? I'm asking how you plan to handle things with Gu Zhijian. Are you going to take him back?" Tai Kefei pressed on, sounding like a gossiping old lady.
"Tai Kefei, you're asking too many questions. Can you just shut up?" Wen Mian snapped, clearly irritated. "I haven't figured it out yet. I'll deal with it when I do."
She truly hadn't figured it out. Although she'd imagined countless scenarios of meeting Gu Zhijian again, even dreaming of walking down the aisle with him, now that the day had come, she was at a loss.
The doubts in her heart hadn't fully disappeared, and she wasn't sure why Gu Zhijian had returned. Was it for her?
"I know you still have feelings for him. Honestly, if he's back and doesn't disappear again, there's nothing wrong with giving it another shot," Tai Kefei shrugged, speaking earnestly. "Don't blame me for meddling; I'm just looking out for you."
"If you really care about me, you could just keep quiet. Do you know how noisy you are?" Wen Mian glared at Tai Kefei, pulling her towards the door. "Hurry up, hurry up. I need to tidy up and head to work. You should get on with your day too."
