C19 It Was Definitely an Accident
Just the thought of it made Lu Yuan feel overwhelmed.
When Wen Mian heard a woman's voice at the door, her body tensed. She also sensed a change in Yih Qianbo—he seemed angry.
"Who let you in?" Yih Qianbo withdrew his hand, putting some distance between himself and Wen Mian. He glanced back at Lo Yuvyang with displeasure, then turned to Lu Yuan. "What's going on?"
"Boss... Miss Lo had just agreed to leave, and I was arranging for someone..." Lu Yuan's voice trailed off as he noticed the increasingly menacing look in Yih Qianbo's eyes.
Yikes, it seemed the Boss was really upset this time.
"Mr. Qianbo, who is she? Why are you with her?" After the initial shock, Lo Yuvyang still couldn't believe her eyes.
Even though her marriage to Yih Qianbo was a business arrangement, Lo Yuvyang had liked him from the moment they met. Since then, he had become her everything.
She knew Yih Qianbo didn't have feelings for her, so she had been working hard to earn his approval, diligently fulfilling her role as the future Mrs. Yih.
But now... she had witnessed Yih Qianbo kissing another woman.
"It's none of your business." Yih Qianbo glanced at Lo Yuvyang, who was on the verge of tears, and answered mercilessly, "Lu Yuan, take her out."
"Miss Lo, please come with me." Lu Yuan extended his hand in a gesture of invitation.
"Mr. Qianbo, I know you don't like me that much, but we're getting married next month. Even if you don't like me, it's okay, just tell me, and I can change. But why are you doing this to me? Who is she? Would you rather be with a nightclub girl than with me?" Lo Yuvyang bit her lower lip, tears streaming from her reddened eyes. "What did I do wrong? I can change, okay?"
"Leave." Yih Qianbo frowned, clearly not wanting to hear Lo Yuvyang's sobbing.
"Fine, I'll go. But Mr. Qianbo, you could just call off the engagement. You don't need to bring in someone like her to humiliate me." With that, Lo Yuvyang gave Wen Mian a long, hard look.
She was quite pretty, at least not inferior to her, but a nightclub girl is still a nightclub girl. No matter how beautiful, she's just a club princess, worlds apart from a wealthy heiress like herself.
Mr. Qianbo actually prefers this kind of woman? Was her previous information wrong, or has his taste changed recently?
Lo Yuvyang's constant remarks about the performers made Wen Mian uneasy.
"Miss Lo, if you look down on the performers so much, yet still show up uninvited, it seems like you might actually want to be one," Wen Mian retorted. Although the Dark Night Royal Palace is a nightclub, it's the largest and most renowned in the city. Not just anyone can come here; it's frequented by the city's elite and business moguls. Yet, it's rare to encounter someone with such a poor reputation.
"I'm sorry, I was just so angry that I spoke without thinking. It wasn't intentional," Lo Yuvyang apologized softly to Yih Qianbo, lowering her head. "I just... want my fiancé to come back with me. I don't want to argue with anyone."
As she spoke, her tears flowed even more. With her petite and adorable appearance, like a delicate doll, her crying made her look so pitiful that anyone would feel compassion and want to protect her.
Even Wen Mian, a woman herself, began to reflect on her own harsh words after Lo Yuvyang's apology. If someone's fiancé was caught being affectionate with another woman, anyone would be upset.
Thinking this way, Wen Mian realized she might have been too harsh. She offered a conciliatory smile, "Miss Lo, I also spoke out of turn earlier. Please don't take it to heart. You and Director Yih should talk things over. I'll give you some space."
Picking up her phone, Wen Mian was ready to make a quick exit. As she passed by Yih Qianbo, he grabbed her arm, his cold voice piercing her ears, "Where do you think you're going?"
"Director Yih, this is a personal matter, and I don't want to intrude. I'll be on my way." Wen Mian shot Yih Qianbo a glare, then nodded toward Lo Yuvyang, as if to say: Your girlfriend is crying, aren't you going to comfort her? Look how pitiful she is, can you really stand it?
Wen Mian genuinely hoped Yih Qianbo would leave soon. His presence made it impossible for her to focus on her work. She thought it would be best if he didn't come back and just stayed home with his fiancée.
"Thank you, you're really a good person. I never believed you were the type to steal someone else's husband. I was wrong to blame you." Lo Yuvyang wiped her tears, looking gratefully at Wen Mian.
That innocent look made Wen Mian feel a pang of guilt. "Oh, Miss Lo, you're too kind." Shaking off Yih Qianbo's arm, Wen Mian hurried out of the office as if escaping.
She truly had no intention of stealing anyone's husband, and she didn't even know Yih Qianbo had a fiancée. At most, she thought of him as a playboy. The incident two days ago where she mistook him for someone else was purely accidental. Absolutely accidental!
Once out of the office and away from Yih Qianbo, Wen Mian patted her chest, whispering to herself, "Wen Mian, from now on, you must keep your distance from Yih Qianbo. If you're not careful and get caught up in something, you'll become the biggest scandal in A City."
In City A, any news about Yih Qianbo is the biggest headline. Anyone associated with him sees their attention skyrocket.
In the restroom, Wen Mian carefully reapplied concealer over the red marks on her neck. Yih Qianbo had just smudged them with his fingers, and she hoped no one had noticed.
Staring at her reflection, Wen Mian felt a bit out of sorts. Why did her mood suddenly feel so heavy and listless? Especially after being caught by Yih Qianbo's fiancée, she couldn't shake the strange feeling weighing on her.
"Ms. Mian, why are you staring at the mirror? Are you mesmerized by your own beauty?" Gu asked curiously as she entered the restroom and saw Wen Mian gazing into the mirror.
Wen Mian snapped back to reality, shook her head, and replied with a hint of sarcasm, "Of course, I'm so beautiful that I wake up every day amazed by my own reflection. I can never get enough."
"Ms. Mian, while you have every reason to be a little vain, maybe tone it down a bit. How are those of us who aren't as blessed supposed to cope?" Gu pouted, letting out a sigh. "If only I had as many handsome admirers as you do, life would be perfect."
"So many?" Wen Mian lifted her eyelids and glanced at Gu through the mirror. "Who are these so-called top-notch guys you're talking about?"
