C18 Angry Reply to the Consort 2

Mu Yunhua touched her nose, feeling the sting of Aunt Wan's disdain. It was infuriating!

Aunt Wan had no concern for a dog that posed no threat. With a furrowed brow, she chastised her servants in a hushed tone, "A person has died at our doorstep, and you just stand there? Not bothering to move the body? What kind of spectacle does that create for onlookers?"

"Madam, it's not that we're unwilling to move the body; that straw bag, Mu Yunhua, forbade us from doing so," one of the servants quickly interjected.

Mu Yunhua forbade them from moving the body?

Aunt Wan let out a derisive snort. What was that little wretch thinking? Her commands were to be obeyed now? When did she start calling the shots at Mu's Mansion?

Another servant seemed eager to speak, but Aunt Wan wasn't in the mood to listen, striding directly toward Mu Yunhua.

"Hua Er, even if you hold a grudge against the Mu family, it's wrong to take it out on a servant. By not allowing the staff to move the body for treatment... you're dealing with a human life, not just some dead animal from your yard. Wouldn't your conscience be troubled if he were to die?"

Upon her arrival, Aunt Wan's face was etched with earnest concern as she unleashed a barrage of criticism at Mu Yunhua. The onlookers around the Mu Mansion were taken aback, their gazes quickly turning to ones of disgust and hostility toward Mu Yunhua.

Aunt Wan's eyes gleamed with satisfaction as she gestured for action. "Come quickly, don't heed Hua Er's words. Move the body first and handle the treatment with care."

Mu Yunhua wasn't disoriented by Aunt Wan's preemptive scolding; rather, she was taken aback. Who was being called 'Hua Er'?

Her? Since when had she and Aunt Wan become so familiar that such an affectionate nickname was warranted?

The audacity was astounding!

As the servants moved to carry away the bodyguard, Mu Yunhua raised her hand decisively. "Hold on, who gave you permission to move him? Have you forgotten what I just said? Stand down."

She wondered if getting closer meant competing with the injured for fresh air.

The servants froze in place, not daring to lay a finger on the second courtyard. They glanced between Mu Yunhua and Aunt Wan, uncertain whose command to follow. What were they supposed to do now?

Aunt Wan was taken aback that her servants had actually refrained from acting on her orders due to Mu Yunhua's mere words. It was utterly baffling and infuriating. Who really held sway in this mansion? When had her authority become so negligible?

They were utterly useless!

Despite inwardly berating the servants, Aunt Wan maintained a facade of compassionate concern. She fixed Mu Yunhua with a look of clear disapproval. "Hua'er, this is a matter of life and death. Do you even realize what you're doing?"

"I'm fully aware," Mu Yunhua replied confidently, turning the question back on Aunt Wan. "But do you understand the gravity of your own actions?"

How dare she question her? Did Li Wan really need to be schooled by this insolent girl?

Aunt Wan's expression shifted to one of sheer disbelief, as if she were staring at someone who'd lost their mind. "Hua'er, you've made so many mistakes recently, and the mansion has covered for you. Even Xi'er has shouldered the blame on your behalf. No one here has spoken ill of you, yet you remain unrepentant. You bore a grudge against us even before stepping foot into Nether King's Manor, claiming we were the ones at fault. If you were upset, you could've had your nanny fetch you some cats or dogs to vent on, all of which you've tortured to death in the courtyard... I thought it was just your temper flaring, never believing you capable of true cruelty. But now... now there's a living, breathing person who has perished before you. Do you not understand the sanctity of life, that it is more precious than anything else?"
