C19 Angry Aunt 3
"Hua'er, how could you become so heartless, so cruel, and so malicious!" Concubine Wan's impassioned accusation was so convincing that even Mu Yunhua, who was listening, nearly believed she had unknowingly killed a multitude of cats and dogs in her own courtyard!
So, was it truly her who was unfeeling, cold-hearted, and unreasonably cruel from the very beginning?
"No, the young lady has never done any such thing! You mustn't spread false accusations, Madam," the nursemaid protested in shock. "Cats and dogs? We haven't even left our courtyard, let alone brought back such things! Madam, you mustn't make such unfounded allegations!"
How could Concubine Wan concoct such fabrications and spew venomous slander?
If people were to believe her words, what would become of the young lady?
The nursemaid's worries were, naturally, believed by the crowd of onlookers who had come to watch the spectacle.
"I thought she was merely a fool, but it turns out she's wicked at heart!"
"A fool? She's been playing dumb all along. Why else would she aspire to marry into the Nether King's Manor and wear gold and silver?"
"Utterly disgraceful, repugnant!"
In no time, the crowd at the gates of Mu's Mansion was hurling insults, their fury fueled by Concubine Wan, as if they wished to drown Mu Yunhua in their spit!
"It's not true, it's not..." The nursemaid's voice was desperate, but the crowd wouldn't listen to her explanations.
How could the voice of one stand a chance against the roar of many?
As expected, the nursemaid's voice was drowned out by the sea of noise.
Mu Yunhua gently took the nursemaid's hand, urging her to stop her futile attempts to explain. She then lifted her eyes, locking gazes with Concubine Wan.
That brief glance sent a chill down Concubine Wan's spine, as if she had seen the shadow of a fearsome demon in Mu Yunhua's eyes—fear itself!
But before Concubine Wan could make sense of what she had seen, Mu Yunhua had already shifted her gaze.
Her eyes moved across the crowd at the doorway, and with a graceful yet decisive gesture, she brought her four fingers together and pinched them against her thumb, signaling for silence in a way that everyone could clearly see.
"Shut up!" Two voices, not particularly loud but cutting through the crowd's noise, came from her lips.
In the next moment, the noisy onlookers, who had been on the verge of violence, fell eerily silent.
One second, the atmosphere was as raucous as a marketplace; the next, as tranquil as a library.
It was bizarrely powerful!
Even the rubberneckers couldn't fathom why a mere gesture from Mu Yunhua had so effectively rendered them mute, and Concubine Wan was just as perplexed.
What in the world had just occurred?
While Concubine Wan was still lost in her bewilderment, Mu Yunhua called her out, abruptly pulling her from her reverie.
"Li Wan, do you really know what you're doing? It appears to me you're utterly ignorant!"
Mu Yunhua boldly used Concubine Wan's full name, leaving her dumbfounded. The nanny beside her quickly chastised, "Second Miss, you're being outrageous! How can you address the lady of the house so disrespectfully?"
"Madam?" Mu Yunhua chuckled sardonically, her laughter laced with derision. "The servants at Nether King's Manor call you 'Madam' because you control their fate, and they're flattering you. Have you been so deluded by their flattery that you think you've ascended to the heavens?"
"What qualifies you as a true lady of the house, Li Wan? My father brought home a wife with grandeur, a woman honored by the sacred rites—her name is Chu, Die! She is my mother, not some brazen concubine who barged into our lives, pregnant and devoid of any propriety!"
