C2 THE LOYAL SECRETARY

Tyla finished eating and after taking a thirty-minute break, David knocked on the door.

“Come in.”

David calmly walked in and handed her the documents.

“Thanks.” As David was about to leave, Tyla called him. “Uhh… David, do you know why the CEO is upset today?” She perked up her ears for gossip.

“Come on, spit it out.” She hurried the stiff man a few meters away from her.

David sighed, and replied “The boss’s mom wants him to get married.” He stated nonchalantly.

Tyla’s eyes widened, “seriously? Isn’t he married yet?” She was shocked by David’s revelation.

“Pinch me!” How come she never knew her boss was unmarried? That’s to say she never paid attention to his personal relationship.

“Well, I am telling you this because I know you are tight-lipped.” His meaning was clear.

Tyla acquiesced , still in thought. David turned and left his cubicle without much thought. He still had other matters to attend to.

Tyla didn’t mind his attitude either, he had always been like that ever since she met him. If Kelvin is cold, indifferent and heartless. Then David is insensitive, rigid and boring. He is rather a straight to the point kind of person.

She sighed and grabbed her phone to see what day the time was. “ I will go home in an hour.”

An hour later…

Tyla had already formatted three of the files and packed the rest in her bag. Making sure she was forgetting something at the office, she grabbed her bag and walked out of the door.

On her way to the elevator, she bid goodbye to a few important personnel and went straight home.

She remembered that she hadn’t bought groceries, but she was too exhausted to go shopping. Tyla kept her bag in the silver-colored Audi car.

"Let's worry about it tomorrow." She then zoomed onto the asphalt road.

Tyla got home, to see the lights in her penthouse turned on. She was slightly alarmed but calmed down the next minute, recalling the text her mother sent her.

She typed in the password and an electronic mail voice granted her access.

Tyla dropped her bag and laptop on the sofa and made her way to the kitchen.

“Mom?”

Hearing Tyla’s voice, Mrs. Brooklyn smiled brightly. “You are back!” She brought out the macaron cheese she had cooked on the dining table.

“Freshen up and come have dinner. Look, you are getting thinner every day!” Mrs. Brooklyn complains, seemingly dissatisfied.

“Mom, not again.”

“I have told you to resign from that company. Look at my poor baby. She can’t even rest properly, even at home.” Mrs. Brooklyn sighed and continued, “You are always decisive, but you always seem to hesitate whenever I talk about you resigning. And again, you aren’t young anymore! Look, I should have held my grandson by now! You don’t even have time to date properly!” The more she complains, the more upset she gets.

“Mom, I’m still young, okay? I’m just 25.” Tyla replied as she quickly washed up and walked to the dining table.

“Just 25? One of my friends' daughters gave birth to a baby girl. But look at you, you haven’t even had a proper date. How many dates have you gone? How many had been futile? Sighs. You know mom’s getting older daily.” Her tone softened at the end of her speech.

“Mom, I understand your plight. But still, I don’t think you are old at all. Can anyone compare my mother’s beauty and gracefulness?” Tyla's boots. She didn’t want her mom to stress over matters like that.

She herself doesn’t know why no man is able to attract her interest at the moment. She is not interested in dating yet. Facts have proved that relationships are very stressful. Her bestie is already going through a lot now.

Busy as Tyla is, she doesn’t think she has much time to invest in things like emotions. Surely, she won’t dare tell mom what she’s thinking. Or else, she would start another round of nagging.

Her mother slept in the guest room, while she worked a bit deep into the night. A bout of drowsiness hit Tyla. Thankfully, she had just finished typing and formatting and making this month's company budget. She dutifully rescanned each document and made a sigh of relief. “ Finally, I’m done.” She yawned and stretched her stiff limbs

Setting her alarm, she fell asleep instantly upon hitting the pillow.

Her mother left the next morning upon receiving a call from her father.

Tyla went to work early. Since it was still twenty minutes before the normal working hours, she walked towards the lift exclusive for the president and his secretaries, after greeting the security and many other employees who had filed in for work.

After placing her things in her cubicle, she went straight to the pantry to prepare the hot water for brewing tea and snacks.

She also placed an order for breakfast just in case the boss needed it and, if not, she could just place it inside the refrigerator and have it heated for her own consumption.

The Ceo never cared if she or David ate his food or snacks. He gave them the permission to do so, to avoid wasting food.

Tyla finally buried herself in her own paperwork for the next few hours.

Tyla worked vigorously, going in and out of the president’s office to submit documents and reports. A short meeting was held and Tyla submitted a yearly budget for the company.

And together with David, they made an acquisition plan on how to collaborate with S-tech. After she finished her speech, the Ceo, the team members and executives clapped on her well-detailed and realistic plan. Kelvin looked at Tyla with a slight admiration, his head secretary was worth working side by side with him.

David caught Kelvin glimpsing Tyla but the latter glared at him.

In the company, no one dares offend Tyla in any way. That is tantamount to disrespecting their president.
