C17 Getting Contracted

Iris was both happy and disappointed when she got home. The smile on her face was so large she could barely contain it as she darted into her room and jumped on her bed and screamed in her pillow.

When else did she David smile so wickedly before? Her excitement was warranted. She could bet that no one has ever seen him like that.

Iris rolled around, taking her blanket with her, making herself into a dumpling. She looked up at her ceiling, the foolish smile still on her face. She thought that she had become an afterthought in his life, but it didn’t look that way, since he even risked coming to watch her play.

She sat up and looked at the mirror opposite her bed. If only she could get him to come up to her apartment, she lamented internally and got off her bed.

At this time, the last thing she had imagined was how she would become an instant sensation once she was exposed in the industry.

She went to take a shower, noticing the marks that David had left on her neck. She couldn’t help but smile at the sight as she dried herself off. She couldn’t let him do these things to her in the future in case these marks ended up triggering rumours about her.

That night, Iris went to bed happily. She felt like she was walking on clouds. That was the level of excitement. David was completely unaware of how his impulsiveness had caused her to be so happy and continued on his day as normal.

The following day, Iris was woken up by her phone ringing. She picked it up while she was half asleep and continued laying in bed as she listened to the other side dazedly.

“Is this Miss Mathis?” the other person asked.

“Yes, this is she, who is this?” she asked sleepily.

“This is LyonStar Entertainment. We were calling to negotiate a contract with you. Are you going to be available at 10:30 am today?” the other side asked and Iris who was still asleep instantly woke up.

Was there anything she was unaware of in the entertainment industry? No. So when such a huge pie fell on her lap, she could not stay laying down, she actually sat up on her bed and all the sleepiness in her eyes faded away.

LyonStar Entertainment? Who did not know of that company? Everyone in the industry strived to be a part of it in their careers and she just easily got in? Just like that? Her career was pretty much guaranteed regardless of how unfair the contract they offered was. Did David find such a high tier resource for her? Isn’t she indebted to him forever if this is the case?

“Yes, I’ll be available,” Iris said and checked the time. It was already 9 am. It would take around twenty minutes to get to the company from her house.

“Okay then, we will wait for you at the headquarters,” the other person said.

“I’ll definitely be there,” Iris reassured them.

“I’ll look forward to it,” the other person said, their tone sounding more relaxed than it was before. They had thought that the person they were asked to sign would have more of an attitude seeing that they got a direct recommendation from the CEO of the main office, but that did not seem to be the case. It was the first time something like this was happening

After Iris got out of the call, she climbed out of her bed and made a beeline for her bathroom. She had thought that maybe David would have her take part in a production one of his subsidiaries handled as the supporting cast.

Who knew he held such high regard for her that he actually wanted her to be signed at the number one management company on the continent? This was basically handing her a successful career on a silver platter.

Iris got dressed and carefully applied her makeup before rushing out of her house. She was thankful that she did not live too far from the bus stop, so the trek there took no time. She was just in time for the bus going in the direction of LyonStar, and she almost had to run so as not to get left behind.

As Iris was on the bus, she fiddled with her phone for a few minutes before deciding to call David. She was hoping she was not distracting him from work.

“Hello?” his deep voice resounded from the other side.

“Hi, I received the call you were talking about yesterday,” Iris said, a beautiful smile decorating her face. Even the other passengers on the bus could not help but stare.

“Mmmh,” David responded.

“Thank you so much for such an opportunity,” she said sincerely.

“It’s no problem,” David answered her.

“You have to give me a way to repay you. What if I make you dinner?” she asked him, and David paused. When was the last time someone besides his housekeeper who was generally invisible made him food?

“Are you trying to get into my house? Or are you trying to get me in yours?” he asked, and Iris pursed her lips in embarrassment. Regardless of whose house this took place in, she would still be gaining from it.

“I will ask something of Miss Mathis in the future. By then, I hope you don’t turn me down,” David continued when he did not receive a response.

“I definitely won’t, you just threw me a lifeline, how would I dare turn you down?” she asked, and David smiled in satisfaction. Unfortunately, no one was around to see this response from him.

“Mmmh,” David responded. His satisfaction was very clear in his voice.

“Well, I have to go, I’m on the way to the company,” Iris said, and after another nonchalant grunt from David, the call ended.

It did not take too long for Iris to arrive at the company and receive her contract. Iris read through it thoroughly and even sent a soft copy of the contract to one of her close friends and even David before deciding to sign it after some adjustments that came from David.

The contract was in her favour in all aspects, and there was no way for her to argue against that. Even though she would have probably signed a slave contract if it was for a company like LyonStar.

After signing, they introduced Iris to her manager, stylist/ makeup artist and road manager all at once.

Happy was not enough of a word to express her mood by then. It really felt like a pie fell from the sky onto her lap. She got a first-class contract, with a first-class manager and staff. She even had scripts waiting for her.

“Can I do this drama next?” Iris asked her manager as she handed her a script that she was satisfied with. They already provided her with a van to fulfil her transportation needs, and since the company was one of the major investors of the drama, the production team had a moral responsibility to grant at least one role to the actors of the company.

“Definitely Miss Mathis,” the newly appointed manager responded as they carefully scanned through the pages of the script.

Iris would have never imagined that her impulsiveness from one night would get her to such a position. She will cooperate with whatever arrangements he had made for her and about repaying such an enormous debt. The cost of having a scandal with someone like David Lyons was unimaginable, so she did not even think about what it was going to cost her.

In the future, she was going to happily smile at herself while smiling at the choices she had made for herself. The word regret would not exist in her vocabulary.
