C8 I'll Look For You.

When Iris lifted her head, she finally noticed that David was looking at her talk to herself like an idiot. She put the bundle of money in her pocket and smiled sheepishly before running back to work, mostly because of embarrassment. She went to busy herself and soon returned in front of him.

David looked at her curiously as she stood in front of him. She seemed to want to say something to him but was too nervous and was even fidgeting in place.

“Speak,” he said in his normal tone, and for a second, she almost blurted everything she was thinking. His aura could really make you lose your head, she thought to herself as she cleared her throat.

“Are you well?” she asked him, and David looked at her for a few seconds. It was long enough to make her even more nervous.

“Mmmh,” he answered and took a sip of his sherry.

“You remember me, right? We met last time you came over,” she continued to talk. She was obviously going in circles, but David did not expose her and showed her rare patience.

“Mmmh,” he responded. Many people got annoyed with how noncommittal his responses sounded, but she did not seem to mind at all.

“I… You… I gave you my number, and you took it with you right?” she asked, just in case the person who took it was the man who came later, who she was assuming was his assistant or something.

“Mmmh,” he agreed, and Iris breathed a sigh of relief. She was happy that it was not just her own wishful thinking.

“Why didn’t you call? I was expecting at least a message from you,” Iris said honestly, and her words dumbfounded David.

“I lost it,” he lied with a straight face, making no clarifications on how it got lost. The more he tried to explain, the more complicated it would get, so it was easier to just say that he lost it.

“Oh, that’s why, I thought you had been impulsive because you had been drinking,” Iris said with a relieved smile. She had hit the nail on the head. If he had been sober, he would not have taken it, even though looking at how things were now, he would have regretted it.

“So, if you had it, would you at least have texted me?” Iris asked and David took a sip of his drink with no intentions to answer her question.

“Fine then, is it okay if I have yours instead?” she asked sweetly and for some reason, he could not refuse her. She stealthily slipped him her phone and in another moment of impulsiveness, because he had been drinking, he gave her his personal number.

Iris quickly took back her phone before he changed his mind and called the number. David felt his phone vibrate in his pocket and he pulled it out to see her name on the caller id.

“That’s my number, save it. I’m Iris Mathis,” she said to him and he nodded stiffly.

“I will look for you after work, don’t pretend to not know me okay?” she said and patted his forearm that was resting on the bar counter before she went back to work.

David became dazed for a few seconds, and even though it did not show in his face, it was enough that he knew what he was experiencing.

“Do you need anything else? My shift will end in an hour,” Iris said to him, startling him out of his thoughts. David looked at her for a few seconds and pointed at his empty bottle. Iris went and got him another bottle of sherry and more ice in a bowl before going back to work.

David took out his cellphone and made a call. When the person on the other side finally picked up the phone, David had already become quite impatient.

“Hello sir,” an anxious voice sounded from the other side.

“Mmmh, come pick me up at Mist. Leave your car at the villa and take a taxi here,” David said and added in the end.

“Should I come right now?” Felix asked.

“Get here by 2 am,” David said to him.

“Alright sir, is there anything else?” he asked patiently.

“No,” David said and cut the call. He had no reason to stay longer at the bar, especially after she left, so he was intending to leave as soon as she does.

After another fifty minutes, Felix walked into the bar and made a beeline for where David was. David looked at Felix who was wearing a white shirt and a pair of jeans briefly and handed him his car keys.

“Wait for me in the car,” David ordered and Felix left. After Iris’s shift ended, she went to change into her normal clothes, which was a tank top and mid-thigh length pair of shorts. After changing, she went to David, who had already finished his drink.

“Do you need another one?” she asked him and he shook his head.

“I’m also leaving, I want to pay,” David said. So, she brought him his bill, but this time it did not have her number.

After checking the amount, he gave her his card, and she processed his payment, and as she was distracted with that, he slipped her tip into the little folder she had handed him.

So, after she handed him his card and receipt, she took the bill back. The little folder was abnormally heavy, so she opened it and found a small pile of money.

She smiled when she saw the amount and quickly slipped it in her pocket. David was observing these series of actions with a subtle upturn of his lips.

“Thanks for the tip, you are so generous,” Iris said with a bright smile as she went back to where he was.

“Mmmh,” he responded as he got up from the barstool, towering over her. Iris had to tilt her head to look at him, and he looked down at her.

“Well then,” David said and turned to leave.

“Wait, let’s walk out together,” Iris said and fell in step next to him. David did not respond, and since his pace slowed down a bit, she took that as affirmation. Some people noticed the pair leave the bar together and could only silently make their own conclusions.

Once they stepped outside, Felix drove David’s car over and stopped as close to the entrance as possible.

“Goodnight David,” Iris as she looked up at the man standing next to her.

“How are you going home?” he asked, and she paused at the sudden question.

“There are taxis here, I don’t live too far so the fare isn’t that expensive,” Iris answered honestly.

“I’ll drop you off then,” David said and opened the door for her. She looked at his face, then at his car’s interior, and then at his face, before she swallowed her saliva in excitement. Her crush offered her a ride, she had no reason to refuse! So, David, who was already regretting his words, was surprised when she rushed into the car and sat down in the backseat.

He closed the door for her and went to the other side of the car and got inside. After giving Felix her address, he left the club’s premises.

Iris fiddled with her own fingers as she would occasionally stare at David’s side profile. She could already imagine Lana’s disbelief once she told her how tonight went. She was so excited she could not sit still.

“Are you not comfortable?” David asked as he watched her fidget in her seat.

“No, your car is very comfortable,” she answered and patted the leather seats below her twice. When she looked up to steal a glance, her eyes met his and her cheeks turned red almost instantly. It was okay when they were in public, but now that they were alone in a closed space, she started feeling shy.

Felix was so quiet that they had forgotten about him. This was the first time his boss has allowed a woman to sit with him in his own private car. So Felix was driving them while in a constant state of surprise.

“It’s right up this building, yes, thank you,” Lana said once they were close to where she lived.

“I’d invite you up for a coffee, but I have to wake up early tomorrow. But I’ll definitely arrange it next time,” she said, and David was speechless from her words.

“Are you okay with me calling you David? Or should I address you as Mr Lyons?” she asked as she tilted her head to get a better view of his face. Felix felt the back of his neck sweat. David? Besides his parents, who else has dared to call him David?

Surprisingly, David just shrugged his shoulders. It did not matter to him; it wasn’t like she was his employee, nor was she asking him to do anything for her. There was no need to be so formal. Besides, he liked how his name sounded when she called it.

“Then I’ll stick to David, I’ll look for you, you better respond,” she said as she got out of the car. Once she was out, she briefly waved at him before entering the apartment building. When he saw the lights to what he was assuming was her house turn on, only then did he tell Felix to drive off.

Felix felt like he witnessed something that he shouldn’t have. So his boss was into this type of women. Not only possessing ethereal beauty but also curves in all the right places, also young? Felix was stewing in his silent confusion the whole time he drove David home.
