C9 Phonecall.

After Iris got home, she was so ecstatic she felt like she was walking in clouds. She had fantasized a lot about how it would be if she ever had a relationship with David, but who knew that she would end up having an experience like today?

She looked at his phone number that she had saved on her phone, and the smile she had on almost split her face in half. She wanted to call, but she figured that he was still on his way home. So she went to the bathroom to take a shower. After her shower, she went to her small kitchen and made some toast.

As she waited for her toast, she dried her hair and put on her oversized t-shirt that doubled as her pyjamas before having her post-midnight snack.

After clearing everything, she jumped into her soft bed that had too many pillows and pulled out her phone.

She looked at David’s phone number and the two options that appeared under it. She debated on whether to call or to message him. She even asked herself if she should wait a few days before she looks for him, but her instincts won out.

Without thinking about it too much, she tapped on the call button and waited apprehensively for him to pick up the phone. After the third ring, he picked the call and a deep voice flowed out the speaker of her phone.

“Hello?” David’s voice sounded out. He sounded so good in the silent night that her heart rate picked up as soon as she heard his voice.

“David, are you home already?” she asked after she composed herself.

“Mmmh,” he responded. It was a very simple response, but it sounded so enticing as she listened to it.

“Dinner?” she asked him after a brief pause.

“Not yet, was checking my emails,” David reported to her unconsciously. He did not notice it but she did.

“Oh, did I bother you?” she asked a bit self-consciously. After a long pause, she finally received a response.

“No,” David answered. He had unconsciously shaken his head, and it took a while for him to realise that she could not see him.

“Will you come to the club tomorrow?” Iris asked him, and there was another long pause.

“Do you want me to come?” David asked after a while.

“I do,” she answered honestly.

“I’ll see what I can do,” he answered honestly. He had to resume with work tomorrow, and even though he will work from home, it didn’t mean that he would not be as busy as he was from before.

“When are you going to have your meal?” Iris asked, changing the subject. She didn’t want to dwell on the awkward topic.

“Now?” David responded, and Iris heard a chair being dragged across the floor.

“Oh? Send me a picture,” she said to him impulsively. And unexpectedly, she felt her phone vibrate and the image of his meal was displayed on her screen.

“It looks so good. You must treat me to something like this in the future, you made me hungry again,” she said all in one go. David listened to her slightly husky voice and a small smile appeared on his face.

“Mmmh, you must remind me,” David answered as he looked at the food on the table. He hadn’t really been hungry before, but he was now.

“Really? Then I’ll make sure you don’t forget,” Iris replied as she relaxed in her bed while playing with the hem of her t-shirt.

“Mmmh,” David responded.

“I’ll leave you to your late-night meal. I have a full day tomorrow and my classes start early, I have to go to bed,” she explained as she yawned. As much as she wanted to spend the night talking to David, she still had a life to get back to.

“Mmmh, goodnight,” David said, his voice sounding even sexier than before.

“Goodnight, David,” she answered and cut the call with a lot of difficulty. She pursed her lips as she tried to calm her heartbeat. She had never been so excited in her lifetime. She thought she would have a hard time falling asleep, but her exhaustion caught up with her almost immediately and she quickly fell asleep.

David, on the other hand, had soon lost his appetite after a few bites of food. So not even five minutes later, he put down his fork and knife and returned to his room.

He wasn’t hungry in the beginning and only went to eat because the girl had reminded him to do so. He went back to his room and went through his emails until he started feeling drowsy. Only then did he turn off his lights and went to bed.

The following day, Iris was a ball of energy. Lana did not even want to ask her why she was so excited because it already felt like she would get a very long narration of whatever events that occurred to make her mood so good. However, as her best friend, she had to play along with Iris.

“What happened to you?” Lana asked her with a sigh when she saw that Iris was barely containing herself.

“He gave me his number,” Iris said with a blinding smile.

“He?” Iris asked in confusion.

“Mr. Lyons. David Lyons. Hahahaha. The David Lyons gave me his number,” Iris explained, and Lana felt her jaw drop open.

“He did?” she asked in disbelief.

“Uh-huh. Weren’t you saying it would be impossible?” Iris asked with a mocking expression.

“It’s because he has been locked up because he is ‘grieving for his wife’ things might change once he goes back to normal business,” Lana said thoughtfully.

“Can’t you be happy for me without over-analysing situations?” Iris asked with a pout.

“Well, you have an advantage now. You better use it,” Lana encouraged with a smile.

“I will,” Iris said and pulled out the form they had distributed in class. It was for the play that Lana had talked to her about the previous day. It was fairly popular, so she was a bit familiar with the script and plot.

After filling out the form with her first choice being the second female lead and the last one being the lead, she finally started eating her lunch.

Once she finished, she went to submit the form and made her way back home for a short nap before work.

When she woke up from her nap, she saw that she had received a couple of messages. When she opened the first one, she noticed that it was from her teacher, approving her application for the lead role for the play. She had a premonition that something like this would happen.

With a sigh, she switched to another chat and saw that David was checking on the time she would clock off of work. She told him it was the same time as the previous day and got ready for work.

The results of the application had put her in a foul mood, so as expected, she had a poker face through the night. It was only so until the point David walked in. But unlike the previous day, he did not sit by the bar and had booked a private room.

Iris felt a bit disappointed but did not let her work get too affected. It was only when she received a note from him that a smile bloomed on her face once more. When she was finishing her shift, she went to change into her normal clothes and went to the private room David was in.

When she walked in, she spotted David almost immediately, since he was alone in the large room. There was music playing the background and a whole plethora of drinks were arranged in front of him as he casually smoked on his cigarette.

He had unbuttoned the first three buttons of his shirt so a hint of his muscled shirt was visible from the open space. Iris stared as his slim, long fingers pulled the cigarette away from his lips and his lips parted to release a cloud of smoke.

He looked very irresistible at that moment, especially when his grey eyes met hers. He tempted her to take a photo of him.

“Sit,” he ordered unconsciously, and Iris sat down next to him.

“Is it bothering you?” he asked, referring to the smoke, and she shook her head to say no. In fact, the added aesthetic it provided was too beautiful.

“You can have anything you want,” David said to her as he pointed at the table that was crowded with drinks. She picked a bottle of wine a poured the both of them a glass. The room was on the darker side, so the ambience it created was truly ambiguous.

“You wanted me to come,” David said as he made himself comfortable and Iris nodded. She hadn’t known it before, but she suddenly remembered how Lana was asking her how she was planning to handle such a mature man.

“I wanted to see you again,” she answered honestly. There was no reason for her to lie.

“Oh?” he responded with a raised eyebrow.

“Yes, and I also wanted to tell you first that I’ll be resigning in another week,” she said as she bit her lip nervously.

“Are you trying to say goodbye?” David asked her and she shook her head vigorously. Why in the world would she do that?!

“I got accepted in a play, as the lead role,” she said, changing the subject again. David only watched her, waiting to hear what she wanted to say next.

“I have a favour to ask of you,” she said and looked at him in the eyes before her eyes lowered to his lips. David noticed her gaze and a sexy smile graced his face.
