C13 The Shock

Rose kept staring as the car window wound up quickly to cover the strange man's handsome face before the car drove into the traffic.

She looked on in surprise. The sun was so hot that the car window was dazzling. This made her not see the man's face.

Evelyn came out with Doris and looked at Rose who was still staring in shock by the side of the road. She patted her shoulder and asked, "What happened? Did you see someone you know?"

"Well, he looks like an old acquaintance of mine, but I didn't get to see him well." Rose didn't dare to be 100% sure.

After all, he died six years ago. How could he be here when he died in a fire?

But if he was the one, would he return to City H? Would they meet again?

Rose kept thinking back and forth as her eyes followed the shadow of the car that just left. Her eyes were misty and her heart was in a horrible mess.

"Maybe it was the wrong person," Evelyn said. She felt that it was possible.

"Maybe," Rose nodded in agreement. She suppressed the tears at the corner of her eyes, although she still had doubts in her heart.

"You must be fatigued from work. Come on now, let's go home. You need to rest." Evelyn could feel the tiredness in Rose's eyes.

Rose nodded as she held Doris' small hand.

She didn't sleep well last night and was not in high spirits. She needed to go home and have a good rest.

"A woman who doesn't have a man in her life has inevitably become a female man," Doris blurted out.

This statement left Rose speechless.

Evelyn drove them home and put Rose to bed while she accompanied Doris to take a walk while drawing pictures.

Rose slept for two hours, after which Evelyn went home. She was a native of City Y and had to go home to eat with her parents every weekend.

"What did you draw with Aunt Evelyn?" Rose asked as she knelt beside her daughter.

"Our teacher asked me to draw a happy family," Doris smiled excitedly as she raised her head to show Rose her drawing. "Mommy, look at me, you, and Daddy."

The dark blue sky was well decorated with bright stars. The woman had long hair, wore a red dress, and had a crown on her head. The little girl wore a white princess dress and stood in a field full of flowers while looking at the sky. She pointed at the biggest star in the upper right corner.

But where was her daddy?

"This is Daddy here," Doris said and pointed at a big and bright star. It was as if she could read her mother's mind.

Rose didn't know what to say to her little girl.

"You told me that after Dad left us, he became the biggest star in the sky to protect us. So my Dad must be the biggest and the brightest one," Doris said proudly.

"Tell me, Doris. Do you miss Dad?" Rose asked as she looked at her daughter.

"No," she answered with a shake of the head. She tactfully hid her yearning for her father.

How could Rose not read her daughter's mind? Although she was still young, she was quite sensible for her age. Every time she saw that other children could ride on their father's shoulders, that they could also be protected by their fathers, especially during parent-child activities, her bright eyes would dim.

Rose hugged her daughter affectionately and felt uncomfortable in her heart.

If it weren't for her scheming against Bright Lee for Wyatt Young, how would she have brought her daughter to this world to endure so much suffering?

She had let her daughter down and couldn't repay the debt she owed.

When Doris saw her mother's red eyes, she believed that she must have missed her father too much.

"I'm hungry, Mommy. Can you please make me something delicious?" Doris politely changed the topic as she didn't want to see her mother sad.

"Okay," Rose agreed as she kissed her daughter's tender face.

She made tomato with scrambled egg, winter melon rib soup, and fruit salad. They continued to live a simple life, day after day.

After being busy for half a month, the Distance Group finally welcomed the signing ceremony for their theater project. The person in charge would come to the company today.

Since Waylon Diaz, who was the design director was still in the hospital, Rose, who was the main designer, had to follow through with the whole process. However, she never expected that the person in charge would be Bright instead of Theodore.

It was as if he was haunting her.

Bright's arrival brought honor to the Brilliant Group and their CEO Don couldn't stop smiling.

Both presidents signed the contract and announced their cooperation at the press conference which made headlines immediately.

That evening, there was a welcoming dinner for Bright. Everyone, especially the female employees, was eager to be selected.

Rose, on her part, was afraid that she would be selected, but CEO Don first asked her to accompany him.

By 6 PM, two tables were already arranged in a private room in Jiayuan International Hotel.

Bright was the last to arrive, followed closely by his deputy, Daniel Bailey.

As soon as he arrived, everyone stood up respectfully.

He looked calm and dignified like a king who just returned from a long trip with everyone bowing to him.

The warm light in the private room fell on his cold and handsome face, which was carved into a profound shape. His eyes swept across everyone indifferently and calmly, including Rose.

The fierce look on his face almost made her heart skip a beat.

"Mr. Lee, please," CEO Don said with a smile as he pulled the chair beside Bright.

Bright walked over to where Rose stood and decided to take the seat next to her. He put his hand on the back of the chair and said, "I like to sit next to the window. Hope you don't mind, Director Don?"

"Of course not. Mr. Lee, you can do whatsoever you like, " CEO Don said with a smile.

The senior executive sitting with his back to the window also stood up and gave up his seat.

Daniel stepped forward to exchange the chair. Only then did Bright sit elegantly. CEO Don also moved closer to him.

At the dining table, Bright was well respected. Everyone made a toast to him as a sign of respect.

Of course, he didn't have to drink everyone's wine himself. Most of them were blocked by his deputy, Daniel.

"Are you disappointed that you didn't see Theodore here?" Bright didn't miss the shock and disappointment on her face when she first saw him.

Was he so terrible that she didn't want to set eyes on him again? It seemed that she was good at hurting a man's self-esteem.

"I wouldn't dare." Rose didn't have the guts to express how surprised she was.

"Well, Theodore has more important work to do, so I will personally supervise this project in the future." This could be regarded as an explanation.

What could she say? "Very well then. Looking forward to working with you, Mr. Lee."

Bright's long fingers gripped the glass he had just finished drinking wine from. He gently rubbed it with his fingers and smiled slowly. "Miss Linder needs to show some sincerity."

Rose, who grew up under severe circumstances, had learned to observe the situations. She picked up the bottle of red wine gracefully and poured half a glass for Bright and raised the glass to welcome him, "Mr. Lee, let me make a toast to you."

Bright gently knocked his glass against hers. From the corner of his eye, he saw that Rose finished the wine first. Then, he slowly drank the wine to his satisfaction.

Just as Rose put down the wine glass, a serviette was handed to her.

"Thank you very much, Mr. Lee."

She lifted her eyes to take a look at him. As she stared at him, she noticed that the more her daughter grew, the more she looked like Bright.

Now that he was in City Y, what would happen if he saw her?

She wondered if she should keep hiding her or give her the fatherly love she had always longed for.
