C1 Corpse Seeking Man
In China, there were many ancient traditions. When a person died in a foreign land, they had to return to their hometown to rest in peace. This was one of the traditions.
I am a "Corpse Seeking Man". The so-called Corpse Seeking Man was to find the dead bodies of their loved ones and bring them back to their families.
This was not only to let the dead people return to their hometown, but also to let the dead people return to their homeland. It was not as simple as bringing the dead bodies back home. It also had to let the dead people return to their homelands.
Everyone might not know that when a normal person died, their deceased ancestors would come to the Spirit Land to receive them. This was also the reason why many dead people would see their loved ones before they died and would call out their names.
However, if a dead person died in a foreign land, their ancestors would not be able to come to the scene. This was because evil spirits and land guarded the various regions. It would be difficult for a lone soul to climb over a mountain.
If a dead person died in a foreign land and no one came to receive them, they would only wander around in the vicinity of the dead place. They would become a lone ghost and no one would worship them. As time passed, they would become resentful. If the dead people became resentful, their families would not be at ease. Therefore, as long as a dead person died in a foreign land, they would have to do a series of rites to ensure that the dead person's body would be brought back home. At the same time, their souls would also return to their homelands.
This was referring to normal dead men. If it was a murderer, an unjust death, or an unjust death, it would be very troublesome.
However, there were very few dead bodies that could not be found by the family after death. Most of them died for various reasons, such as being killed by others, being buried after a car accident, being murdered and destroyed after being found, and so on and so forth. Most of them died with regrets. Therefore, after coming into contact with this profession, I had a clearer understanding of the selfishness and cruelty of human nature. I had also seen many things that ordinary people would not even dare to think about. In short, this profession had many taboos and was also very dangerous. It was not an exaggeration to say that if one was not careful, they might even lose their lives.
Some people also asked me why I chose such a dangerous profession at such a young age? Was it for the sake of earning money? One must know that some money could be earned with a life.
To be honest, this profession was really profitable. We marked the price of a corpse as 100,000 yuan, and we would discuss the price according to the situation of the dead man. However, my true intention in this profession was not to earn money. I just wanted to find my father's corpse and figure out what happened to my family 23 years ago.
——————
In the spring of 23 years ago, I was born. At that time, a few major events happened at the same time in our family: my father died, my mother went crazy, and Second Uncle left the family.
Many people in the village said that all of this was my fault. My birth caused our family to pay such a heavy price because I was a child that should not have been born. Our Jiang family should have been extinct in my generation, but Second Uncle did something to my father in exchange for my life.
The reason they said that was because of a series of strange things that happened to my family before I was born.
I was not the first child of my parents. Before I was born, there were four older brothers. All of them died when they were not even four years old. They died in different ways, but there was one thing in common, and that was that they all died in a strange way.
My big brother died from drowning. After a day of rain, my mother took him out to play. He fell down unsteadily and fell into a puddle of water. He choked to death from the muddy water.
Second brother died from suffocation. His head was stuck to a short tree in my yard. My mother thought that he was lying there to play, so she didn't take it to heart. After a while, when she looked, her face turned pale, and her eyes were wide open. She actually stuck her head into the tree and died from the shock.
Third brother died even more outrageously. He committed suicide. I don't know what he was thinking when he was only three years old. He stabbed a large scissor into his stomach. When my father found out, his blood flowed all over the bed, and he could not be saved.
The pain of losing a son made my parents almost collapse. However, the tradition of having no children made them give birth to fourth brother. After what happened to the previous generation, this child was especially precious. Not only my parents, but even my grandfather put down his work in the field and stayed at home to watch a child. He was afraid that something would happen to the child again.
However, it seemed that the heavens were going to break the Jiang family's line. Fourth brother died when he was three years old. It was said that he was still alive and kicking on the bed a second before he died. In the blink of an eye, he rolled off the bed and his head rushed to the ground. His neck was broken on the spot!
Things had happened one after another in the village, and it caused a huge uproar in the village where no one talked.
Some people said that they had run into evil. Who didn’t fall to the ground? At most, they would fall to the ground and get some bruises. Why did they die at my house?
Some people also said that our ancestors might have done something terrible. The heavens wanted to kill us, so they wanted us to have no children.
Among all these things, my parents were the most miserable. My mother almost broke down mentally. She went to the streets to see the children in the daytime and would hug them. She would call out the names of my four brothers. At night, she would pester my father to get a child.
My father and mother had been married for eighteen years. During these eighteen years, they had been repeating the cycle of getting pregnant, giving birth, pulling the child, and the child dying. They had been mentally exhausted. They didn’t have the courage to have a fifth child. They were depressed, and they drank alcohol. They spent their days in a daze. They looked like an old man in his forties.
Even my grandfather had accepted his fate. He had stopped talking about children.
As for why they had me, it was all because of my second uncle.
Second uncle was my father’s blood brother. He was my grandfather’s youngest son.
Second uncle was a strange man. He didn’t marry a wife when he was thirty years old. He wandered around the outside world all day. He didn’t even want to meet the girls that his family introduced to him.
People said that when Second Uncle was young, he had a girl who was married. She went to the river to wash clothes and fell into the water. She drowned. From then on, Second Uncle’s personality changed. He became sneaky and secretive. He often went into the mountains alone, talked alone, and laughed alone. He looked creepy.
The villagers all said that the girl was unwilling to part with her second uncle after her death and had pestered him to find an Immortal to take a look at her.
At first, Grandfather did not believe it, but Second Uncle was like a lunatic all day long. Seeing that he was making a fuss, he took him to the neighboring village to find an Immortal who was quite famous in the area.
In the end, before the Immortal could even speak, Second Uncle had already calculated his life. He was so accurate that the Immortal was completely convinced. He knelt down on the spot and asked Second Uncle to be his master and cultivate with him.
Second Uncle refused. After returning home, he found a piece of white cloth and wrote two lines of words on it. He picked up a wooden stick and made a simple banner. He left the house without Grandfather's permission and became a wandering scholar.
Second Uncle had not returned for a few years after he left. When Grandfather missed him, he sat alone at the village entrance and stared into the distance. His eyes were filled with desolation.
Half a year after Fourth Brother's death, Second Uncle suddenly returned. When Grandfather saw him, he was stunned at first, then he picked up a stick and slapped it on Second Uncle's body. Grandfather really slapped him, and a bloody mark appeared on his body. As he slapped him, he cursed, "You bastard, why did you come back?! I thought you died outside all these years, so why did you come back?"
Grandmother had left early, and the tears in Grandfather's eyes were mixed with the pain of losing his grandson all these years. He had no place to complain.
Second Uncle did not dodge. He just let the stick fall on his body and said, "Father, our Jiang family cannot break the tradition."
Grandfather was fighting with all his strength, but Second Uncle's words seemed to have broken his bones. His arm went soft, and the stick fell to the ground with a "bam" sound. He sighed and said, "Children are born one after another, but they can't be raised. This is the will of the heavens."
"The Jiang family has never done anything evil. The heavens will not break my family's incense. I suspect that there is something fishy about this." After Second Uncle finished speaking, he threw away the banner in his hand, picked up the shovel, and walked out of the door.
When Grandfather saw Second Uncle leave again, he hurriedly chased after him and asked him what he was going to do.
Second Uncle said, "Don't worry about it. Go back and find an excuse to send my brother and my sister-in-law out for a few days. I'll come back tonight."
Second Uncle's footsteps were very fast. After Grandfather chased him for a while, he was left behind. After he returned home with a belly full of questions, he still followed Second Uncle's instructions and found an excuse to send his parents out. He lit the lamp and waited until midnight before Second Uncle came back.
When Second Uncle came back, he carried a sack on his shoulder. His body was covered in grass, and his shoes were covered in mud.
Grandfather looked at Second Uncle, then walked in front of the sack with suspicion and kicked it. He asked, "What is this?"
The sack did not have a hole. When Grandfather kicked it, the opening was opened, and the contents of the sack were revealed. Grandfather looked closely and let out a miserable cry. He was so scared that he sat on the ground. What was revealed from the sack was a dead child!
Second Uncle silently took out the corpse from the sack and placed it on the ground.
After taking out a corpse, the sack was still bulging. Just like that, Second Uncle took out four children’s corpses from the sack!
The four corpses were placed side by side. Under the lantern, there was a strange light. The house was very quiet, and the atmosphere was so strange that it made people feel suffocated.
Grandfather looked at this scene and was so scared that he almost passed out. His entire body was trembling like cotton.
Second Uncle said, "Father, take a good look at these children. The things that happened in our family are not simple."
Grandfather was scared silly. He stared blankly at the corpse on the ground. After looking at it for about two minutes, he suddenly gasped and jumped up from the ground. He pointed at the corpse and said in disbelief, "This ~ This is Dabao and the others. How is this possible? This is impossible …"
Dabao is my big brother’s name. At that time, he had already been dead for more than ten years. A child who had been dead for more than ten years should have long turned into a pile of bones under normal circumstances. My big brother’s corpse was still fine. Not only my big brother, but my four dead brothers were also dug out by my Second Uncle. Other than their bodies being covered in mud and their bodies stiffening, their skin was deathly gray, there was no sign of decay. This was too illogical!
