C11 A Thief
What did Poison Elder mean by that? If he was not a human, then what was he? Could it be a ghost?
As he thought about it, a wave of coldness spread from the back of his spine to his entire body. At the same time, a strong sense of uneasiness suddenly attacked his heart. It felt like something in the darkness was looking at me!
My heart tightened, and I suddenly turned around to look behind me. I saw a pair of green eyes staring at me from not far away. It was mysterious and cold.
I didn't know that in the dark night, when someone was thinking about ghosts, he suddenly realized that there was a pair of strange eyes staring at him from behind. What kind of reaction would that be? I was scared out of my wits, so I didn't care about the wall anymore. With a groan, I pushed open the door to Poison Elder's house and ran in.
Poison Elder and Second Uncle sat in front of an eight-seated table. They looked at me in a daze. They were stunned by my sudden intrusion.
After a while, they reacted. After exchanging glances, Poison Elder stood up and stared at me suspiciously, "You brat, why are you here? Why are you so flustered? Did you get chased by a dog?"
"There's something outside." I pointed behind me and said in a state of shock.
Second Uncle and Poison Elder looked behind me at the same time. Then, they heard Second Uncle shout outside the door, "A thief!"
As Second Uncle shouted, a shadow rushed in from outside the door and jumped onto the eight-seated table at an extremely fast speed.
It was a cat, a pure black cat with no hair on its body. Under the light of the lamp, its fur glistened like fine silk. Its iron-like tail was standing straight behind it, making it look like an imperial guard.
The black cat squatted on the table and looked at me. I looked back at it, and in just a few seconds, my heart trembled. The cat's gaze was as bright as a torch, as if it could see through my heart and know all the secrets in my heart.
I panicked and tried to look away, but I realized that I was stuck. I couldn't move my eyes away!
I was shocked. What was going on?
"One thief."
At this moment, Second Uncle called out softly again.
The black cat turned its head to look at Second Uncle, and I looked away from it. In an instant, it seemed as if a hand that was grabbing my neck had suddenly loosened. I let out a long breath.
"His name is Jiang Changsheng, my nephew." Second Uncle was actually introducing me to the cat in all seriousness! After Second Uncle came back, he didn't even say a word to me.
Until now, I also understood that the cat was the one staring at me from behind. This cat seemed to be very familiar with Second Uncle. Could it be that Second Uncle brought it back from the outside? Second Uncle called it "one thief", what kind of shitty name was that? Just from the name alone, it wasn't a normal cat.
I muttered in my heart, and I looked at the black cat timidly from the corner of my eye. The other party still had lingering fear in his heart.
"Uncle, I'm leaving." When Second Uncle saw that I was here, he stopped talking about the topic and said goodbye to Poison Elder.
Poison Elder's throat rolled a few times, as if he still had something to say to Second Uncle, but he looked at me and hesitated.
Second Uncle took the thief cat and left without asking me to leave with him. This Second Uncle did not seem to be close to me.
I looked at Second Uncle's back and then looked at Poison Elder. After weighing things in my heart, I stayed at Poison Elder's house.
In any case, Second Uncle's words meant that he had decided to stay behind to investigate what happened that year. I didn't have to ask him about it in a hurry. There was still a long way to go. Besides, I didn't want to travel with that strange cat.
Poison Elder's gaze continued to look at Second Uncle's back as he disappeared into the night. He muttered, "Not simple, not simple at all …"
"What is not simple?" I asked Poison Elder.
"Cat." Poison Elder spat out a word.
"I also feel that cat is not simple. When it looked at me, my mind seemed to be out of my control. What is going on?" I asked Poison Elder. I really didn't understand how a cat could make people feel this kind of fear.
"Could it be that the cat has become a demon?" I muttered.
"Do you believe that there are demons and ghosts in this world?" Poison Elder suddenly asked me.
I was stunned by this question. I lowered my head and thought for a moment. I shook my head.
Since ancient times, demons and devils had countless legends. I don't believe that the legends that have been passed down for thousands of years are all made up by people. However, I have never seen them with my own eyes, so I don't know how to answer this question.
I asked Poison Elder, "Do you believe it?"
Poison Elder said, "I believe it. I have always suspected that the death of your four brothers was because of those things."
I knew the cause of the death of my four brothers. My eldest brother and fourth brother died under the eyes of their parents. My second brother was strangled to death by a tree branch. My third brother stabbed his stomach with a large pair of scissors. Although my father and mother didn't personally witness the deaths of my second brother and third brother, they died in their own homes. It didn't seem like they were killed by someone. The deaths of the four of them were all strange. Could it be that they were really killed by evil ghosts and devils?
As I was thinking about it, Poison Elder suddenly asked, "Did you hear what I told your second uncle?"
I originally planned to ask Poison Elder about those things, so I didn't hide anything. I nodded and said, "I heard a part of it."
Poison Elder was not angry because of my eavesdropping. He asked calmly again, "Then did you hear what we said not to get involved in that matter?"
I said, "I heard it, but I was confused. I was just about to ask you why I couldn't participate in that matter."
Poison Elder sat back down in his chair and pointed to another chair beside him, indicating that I should sit down as well. At the same time, he said, "That is your grandfather's last words. So, don't ask about that matter anymore."
Hearing Poison Elder's words, I became anxious, "I have to ask about this! My father died so miserably, and the murderer who killed my father is still out there. How can I not know about it? Tell me, did my second uncle leave home that year? Was it my grandfather's idea? Did my grandfather know where he was all along, but he didn't let him come back? "
I analyzed the conclusion from the conversation between my second uncle and Poison Elder and asked Poison Elder for confirmation.
Poison Elder did not say anything. His hand was stained with saliva. He picked up a stack of paper from a stack of cigarette papers, rolled up a bunch of smoke, lit a match, and lit it. He then buried his head and started to smoke, as if he did not plan to answer my question at all.
Just like how I sat on this chair many years ago, I continued to ask Poison Elder, "Grandfather, tell me, why did my grandfather do that? Why would he rather his four brothers die with my father than let my second uncle investigate that matter? Wasn't he willing to let me get involved? Could it be that he didn't want to take revenge? Could it be that he was willing to let his descendants die just like that? "
After a long while, under my persistent questioning, Poison Elder finally raised his head and asked me with a frown, "Do you really want to know why your grandfather did that?"
