C13 An Uninvited Guest!

Before he even entered the room, his voice preceded him.

Evelyn stopped in her tracks, startled.

For a moment, she was at a loss for how to react.

But...

It couldn't be.

What were the odds?

She had just tucked the agreement away and lifted her head when Marvin strode through the hall's entrance.

He looked different today, clad in a white suit, standing tall and straight as a pine.

The sunlight made him appear clean and bright.

"Brother, Grandfather has prepared lunch at the old house. He wants the whole family to come together. He specifically asked me to come get you..."

Marvin's attention was fixed on Leslie, so he hadn't noticed Evelyn off to the side, which explained his uninterrupted chatter.

"Brother, it's been ages since I've seen you."

"How's your leg healing?"

"…"

Marvin stood next to Leslie, chattering away.

Off to the side, Evelyn's gaze fell, and she was so tense she barely dared to breathe.

The memory of her rejected confession that night made her feel utterly mortified.

She had no idea how to face Marvin and thought about slipping away upstairs to hide.

But fate had other plans. Leslie didn't respond to Marvin's questions; instead, his penetrating gaze found her.

As she made to leave, Leslie's voice called out, "Evelyn..."

His tone was soft, featherlight.

Leslie had been watching Evelyn's reactions since Marvin walked in.

Seeing her urge to flee stirred an unusual sensation in his chest.

"Ah?" Evelyn paused, too apprehensive to turn around.

Evelyn?

Curiosity piqued, Marvin followed Leslie's gaze.

Her profile struck him as oddly familiar.

Evelyn?

Evelyn?

No way!

Marvin was sure there was no woman Leslie would address with such tenderness.

When she didn't react, a frost seemed to form over Leslie's usually impassive face. He commanded in a stern voice, "Come here."

Marvin, standing close to Leslie, suddenly felt that familiar intensity permeate every cell of his being.

No one could withstand Leslie's anger.

Evelyn clenched her teeth, thinking that since they were brothers, their confrontation was inevitable.

She turned and made her way toward Leslie with cautious steps.

Standing by his side, she uttered softly, "Uncle..."

Leslie remained silent, extending his hand to grasp hers.

The warmth from her fingertips surged through her like an electric shock, momentarily paralyzing Evelyn.

Marvin was so taken aback that he found himself speechless.

It was indeed Evelyn, the one who had confessed her feelings to him.

But why was Leslie treating her with such kindness?

Meanwhile, Leslie glanced at Marvin and stated evenly, "This is your sister-in-law."

Sister-in-law?

Just two days ago, she was professing her love to him, and now she was his sister-in-law.

Marvin couldn't shake the suspicion that Evelyn had an ulterior motive.

Was it possible that, as others had suggested, Evelyn was a woman of vanity, toying with emotions?

Lost in thought, Leslie had Evelyn push his wheelchair into the elevator.

Marvin snapped back to reality, about to speak, only to see the elevator doors slide shut.

He attempted to follow, but Dan blocked his path. "Mr. Gibbs, you have no say in the young master's affairs."

Upstairs.

In the bedroom.

Leslie took Evelyn's hand in his once more, his deep, dark eyes fixating on her intently.

He asked her, "Would you like to join the dinner at the old house?"
