C1 Bastard Child

“Yan Shu, you despicable woman! The child in your womb is not my son’s!”

Yan Shu had just come back from a prenatal check-up when she was greeted by two vicious slaps from her mother-in-law.

They were so forceful that her ears buzzed, and she almost fell back.

Yan Shu touched her swollen cheek and stared up at Chiang Lan. “What are you talking about, Mom?”

She had been dating Shao Heng since their university days and had never slept with another man.

Her baby was only a few weeks from being born. Even if Chiang Lan despised her, she couldn’t treat her own grandchild like this!

“Stop lying! Take a look at this document!” Chiang Lan tossed the paper at her. “My son suffers from oligospermia, and he also told me that he didn’t follow you to that hotel eight months ago. That’s why I arranged for the doctor to do a paternity test without your knowledge!”

Yan Shu grabbed the document and frantically read the result: “The probability of paternity is 0.0000%”

Her mind went blank.

How could this be?

If the man from that night wasn’t Shao Heng, then who could it possibly be?

“Mom, there must be a mistake,” Yan Shu said, her face ashed. “This can’t be right, I’ve only ever had sex with Shao Heng!”

The father of her child couldn’t be someone else.

“Get out of my house!” Chiang Lan roared. She hauled Yan Shu in her arms and began dragging the pregnant woman outside.

Yan Shu fell slumped on the ground. She had fallen on her side, sending a sharp pain shooting to her belly.

“Help!” she cried out, reaching for a passing maid. “Please call an ambulance for me.”

Thankfully, the maid did as she asked. The ambulance arrived shortly, and Yan Shu was sent to the hospital.

The vehicle charged urgently through the traffic. It ran a few red lights and eventually crashed into a truck that was coming from the other side of the intersection. The impact was so great the ambulance was knocked over several times.

Five years later.

“Ladies and gentlemen, the plane is about to land. Please put away your trays and fasten your seatbelts.”

Yan Shu’s eyes fluttered open at the sound of the flight attendant's voice. She turned to the side and found that the little girl beside her was already away.

Her chubby cheeks were rosy with anticipation.

“We’re finally landing,” Yan Xiaosui said, rubbing the sleep from her eyes.

“Mommy, promise me that you’ll find a rich and handsome stepfather for me this time. That way, we can take his private plane when we travel in the future. I want one so big that I can run around, okay?”

Yan Shu chuckled and ruffled the girl’s hair.

“My dear baby, just enjoy your food and drinks, all right? Stop fantasizing about things that are out of reach. A wealthy stepfather won’t just drop from the sky and appear in front of you.”

“What about my biological father, then?” Yan Xiaosui blinked innocently at her mother.

Yan Shu’s lips twitched, and her eyes darkened slightly. “Do you remember the story of the Journey to the West? You were born out of a rock.”

The girl crossed her arms over her chest in disgust. “Mommy, I’m already five years old. I’m not stupid!”

Yan Shu felt helpless as she gazed at her pouting daughter.

The accident from five years ago was truly horrifying. Fortunately for her, she wasn’t crushed or seriously injured. The paramedics responded quickly and rushed her to the hospital, where she gave birth to twins—a boy and a girl.

Chiang Lan stormed into the ward not long after, claiming that Yan Shu’s child was a bastard and must be abandoned.

She had no idea that Yan Shu had given birth to twins. The attending nurse was powerless against Chiang Lan and had to give up the baby boy, but she was wise enough to keep the existence of the baby girl a secret.

Yan Shu’s body had grown weak from the entire ordeal. Afraid that Chiang Lan would discover the other baby and take it away as well, Yan Shu fled the country with her daughter. With the help of a trusted friend, she was able to hide abroad for the last five years.

Sadly, due to her premature birth and the fact that Yan Shu had poor health throughout the pregnancy, Yan Xiaosui was diagnosed with heart problems when she was barely one year old.

Yan Shu was clear with her purpose for returning to City Y. Aside from looking for her long-lost son, she was also trying to meet Su Ke.

He was a renowned pediatrician from City Y who had a deep understanding of heart diseases.
