C14 Apologize to Him
Before she set off the next day, Yan Shu noticed the sly glint in her daughter’s eyes. She frowned, but decided not to bring it up. “It will rain today. Stay home and don’t run around, okay?”
“Yes, Mommy! Drive carefully!”
The moment Yan Shu got out the door, Yan Xiaosui ran to the window and peered through her binoculars. After seeing her mother’s car disappear in the distance, she fetched her schoolbag and left the house.
If her Mommy had left a little later, she would have run out of time.
Yan Xiaosui took a taxi to the Blue Mountain Coffee Shop. After verifying the reservation, she found a man seated at the designated table. He looked handsome in his business suit.
There were a lot of guys who had added her mother on the dating app last night. She spent a long time scanning through the candidates before deciding on this man.
Now, for her first test.
“Uncle!” Yan Xiaosui jogged over and looked at him with wide, pleading eyes. “I’m hungry, can you treat me to a slice of cake?”
The man instantly scowled at her and waved her away. “I have an appointment with a friend. Scram!”
Yan Xiaosui rolled her eyes.
When they were chatting last night, he’d vowed that he would accept a divorced woman and dote on her child.
In the end, he didn't even seem to like children.
Yan Xiaosui looked for a vacant table to the side and sent the man a message through the dating app.
A few seconds later, she saw his expression change. “That old hag deserves to be alone for the rest of her life!” he muttered as he stared at his phone.
Yan Xiaosui was so mad when she heard this that she hopped off her chair and stealthily stretched out her plump leg.
The man, whose attention was all on his phone, promptly tripped and fell.
As it happened, a waiter carrying a tray of piping hot coffee was coming from the opposite direction. The man knocked the tray over on his way down, effectively throwing the hot beverage on his own face. He cried out in pain.
Yan Xiaosui covered her mouth and giggled. She grabbed her schoolbag and fled the scene.
She had just climbed into a bench on the other side of the café when she heard a woman’s shrill voice behind her.
“I thought I was meeting your father for a blind date. So it was you who sent that message. Kid, if you have autism or any other disabilities, just stay close to your father. Don’t involve other people in your troubles.
“Your father only makes 10,000 a month, anyway. You can’t even afford to own a house in City Y with that kind of salary!
“Ah, luck just isn’t on my side today. I came out for a blind date, but all I get is a sulking little mute!”
Fu Jingyan was sitting across the young woman, his head lowered. His hands were clutching the fabric of his trousers tightly, and his tiny frame was trembling.
He berated himself for thinking this woman was similar to the pretty auntie from the hotel. But when she realized that he couldn’t speak, she turned into a cruel witch.
Perhaps Aunt Gu was right when she said that no one would like him.
Yan Xiaosui couldn’t take it anymore. She ran over and stood before the woman, her hands on her hips.
“You’re going too far, Old Auntie! If you don’t like him, then you should just leave! He’s not stopping you. Aren’t you ashamed of your behavior? You’re so vicious toward a five-year-old child!”
Her voice rang loud and clear, attracting everyone’s attention.
The woman’s expression changed. He picked up her purse and was about to leave.
“You can’t just leave now!” Yan Xiaosui yelled as she clung to the woman’s clothes. “You need to apologize to him first!”
“Let go!” The woman was, of course, unwilling to humble herself in front of a child.
But the little girl held tight, and the other patrons were starting to point at her. Out of options, she didn’t hesitate to push the child forcefully.
Yan Xiaosui fell back, her chest colliding with the leg of a nearby chair. She slumped on the floor, panting, her face ashen.
