C15 Are You Her Mother?

It happened so fast that Fu Jingyan wasn’t able to interfere in time.

He quickly jumped off his seat and checked on Yan Xiaosui, hovering around her worriedly.

The woman was starting to panic as well. She was just about to run away when she bumped into someone behind her.

She took a few steps back and looked up. “Director Fu!”

The Fu Group was one of the biggest companies in the country. The CEO, Fu Yunjian, was always on the financial news, becoming an icon for the ladies as their ideal man.

Fu Jingyan turned to his father, his eyes turning red. He struggled to squeeze out a word through his lips. “Daddy.”

Fu Yunjian’s heart clenched.

It had been so long since he last heard her son speak. And now, he was calling to him.

“It hurts,” Yan Xiaosui cried out as she curled into a ball on the floor. Her chubby face was twisted in pain.

Fu Yunjian pushed the woman toward Assistant Zhang and strode over. He picked up the little girl and carried her outside, his son quick on his heels.

On their way to the hospital, Yan Xiaosui kept wailing in agony, though her eyes remained closed. Her face was getting paler by the minute.

“Dad.” Fu Yunjian pulled at his father’s sleeve.

“She will be fine,” he reassured the boy. “Trust me.” Then he turned to the driver and instructed, “Drive faster. Run the red light if you have to.”

“Yes, Director Fu!”

The car ran several red lights and soon arrived at the hospital.

Fu Yunjian handed the girl to the doctors, who were already waiting at the door. As he did so, Yan Xiaosui’s smartwatch accidentally fell off her wrist.

He had just picked it up when a call went through. Given the circumstances, he didn’t hesitate to answer it.

“Hello, Baby. Are you behaving at home?” a woman’s gentle voice came through the speaker.

Fu Yunjian found it rather familiar.

But there were more urgent matters at hand. “Your daughter is in the emergency room of the City Hospital. Miss, please come over right away.”

Yan Shu was surprised to hear a man’s voice. Hearing that her daughter was in the hospital sent her into a panic. She dropped her work and immediately rushed over.

When she got there, she found two people waiting outside the emergency room.

“How is Sui?” she asked as she jogged over, not really registering their faces.

She was a little out of breath, and her face was flushed in a rosy glow.

Fu Yunjian’s eyes widened in surprise when he saw Yan Shu. “Are you her mother?”

“No,” she said instinctively, even as she gaped at him.

She didn’t expect to meet him here.

Yan Shu still had a lot of unfinished business to settle; she couldn’t let other people know about Yan Xiaosui just yet. Otherwise, her daughter might only get dragged into the mess.

Besides, she wasn’t that close to Fu Yunjian to be telling him the truth.

“Her mother is a friend working overseas. She asked me to look after her daughter for a while.” Yan Shu sounded calm, but her face was still filled with anxiety. “How did she end up here?”

If she had known that her daughter would get into so much trouble, she would have just installed a surveillance system at home.

Fu Yunjian lowered his head and said nothing.

Just then, Yan Shu felt a tug at her trousers. An iPad was raised in her direction. “I’m so sorry, Auntie. She became like this because of me.”

Yan Shu bent down and peered at the little boy. It was the same kid she had met at the hotel last time. Then she looked back at the stern man standing beside her. They did look similar.

A small gasp escaped her. “You’re his father?”
