C16 I Want A Mother

Fu Yunjian’s brows furrowed as he shot her a challenging look. “Why, do we not resemble each other?”

“Of course, you do! You’re practically carved from the same mold.” Yan Shu looked like she wanted to say more, but thought better of it. “I just didn’t think that someone as cold and distant as you would have such an adorable son.”

Fu Jingyan nodded emphatically at that, which made his father embarrassed and a little angry.

How could Little Bun diss him in front of others?

Yan Shu’s gaze drifted to the light above the emergency room. She didn’t have time to argue with this man over trivial details. “Baby,” she said to Fu Jingyan. “Can you tell me everything that happened?”

The boy nodded and typed the series of events that occurred at the coffee shop before holding his iPad up to her.

Yan Shu’s expression grew somber as she read.

Her daughter had heart problems, but she had gradually stabilized after taking her medicines regularly for the past two years. So her chest had been hurt in the impact. It was no wonder that she had to be rushed to the emergency room.

An adult would have suffered greatly from the pain, let alone a child with a problematic heart.

Noticing that her face had darkened, Fu Jingyan started to tear up again. “I’m sorry, Auntie. It’s all my fault.”

His face was filled with guilt. Yan Shu’s heart melted.

She leaned close and ruffled his hair. “It was that bad auntie’s doing. Sui knew that she was wrong and wanted to stand up for you. This isn’t your fault, so don’t blame yourself.”

She still couldn’t believe that this little boy was Fu Yunjian’s son.

Most of all, Yan Shu couldn’t wrap her head around the fact that Fu Jingyan had taken the initiative to set her father up on a blind date. Where was his mother?

Seeing her gentle smile, the boy couldn’t help but nuzzle into her arms. He buried his face in the crook of her neck and hugged her tightly.

Yan Shu thought that he must still be shaken from the incident and didn’t push him away. Instead, she stroked his back soothingly. “Don’t be afraid. Sui will be just fine.”

Fu Yunjian watched everything from where he stood, his eyes growing cold.

He knew his son well. The boy was a bit eccentric, a trait he had taken from his father. Except for Fu Yunjian and Fu Yunchen, Little Bun didn’t like getting close to other people, especially strangers.

Yet here he was now, jumping into the embrace of an unknown woman and clinging to her for dear life.

“Fu Jingyan,” he called in a firm voice. “Come here. I have something to ask you.”

The boy reluctantly disentangled himself from Yan Shu’s arms.

His father led him to a corner and asked, “Why did you do that? Do you want me to go on blind dates that much?”

He had originally wanted to bring Gu MIngyan home for lunch today, but his plans were derailed.

He had just ended a meeting when the servants informed him that Little Bun was gone. Fu Yunjian then had to get someone to track his son’s iPad and determine his whereabouts.

When Fu Jingyan didn’t speak, Fu Yunjian unconsciously adopted the bearing of a formidable boss. “Answer me!”

The boy raised his iPad. “It’s because I want a mother.”

Fu Yunjian calmed down. “Is Aunt Gu no good?”

Gu Mingyan had been to their home twice before. She liked Fu Jingyan very much and had even played with him in his room. Fu Yunjian thought that his son had taken a liking to her, since he didn’t seem to resist to her advances.

Fu Jingyan’s lips pressed into a thin line, his little fingers tightening around his iPad.

He shook his head after a moment, though his head was still lowered. “Aunt Gu is very pretty.”

With that, he ran back to Yan Shu and reinstated himself in her embrace. He didn’t want to talk about that woman anymore.

Fu Yunjian wasn’t pleased with his son’s behavior. “Fu Jingyan, didn’t I teach you that it’s rude to walk out in the middle of a conversation?”

But perhaps what irked him the most was how attached Little Bun had become to this insufferable woman.
