C5 Nasty Coincidence

Director Yee’s villa was located in a famous residential area in City A. His grounds alone boasted a massive garden that could fit more than twenty tables.

Yan Shu ordered the staff to arrange the seating in the garden. By the time the wines were placed on each table, it had just turned eleven o’clock. Guests began trickling in.

She shuffled among the crowd, pouring wine and offering appetizers.

“Yan Shu?” came a familiar voice.

Yan Shu stiffened where she stood, her grip on the walkie-talkie tightening. She didn’t dare to turn around.

What a nasty coincidence.

But the speaker didn’t give her a chance to escape. The woman strode over until she was standing in front of Yan Shu.

The woman’s fiery red lips parted in a look of surprise. “I thought it was just some person who looked like you! I didn’t expect you to actually be here. Heng, come here, quick!”

When the man sidled up next to her, Yan Wei hooked her arm with his and clung close. “Look, my sister is back.”

The man was tall and had broad shoulders, as well as a fairly attractive face. He froze when he first saw Yan Shu, then his face slowly twisted in disgust.

She couldn’t help but lower her head under his disdainful eyes. A storm was slowly brewing in her heart.

She didn’t expect Shao Heng to shackle up with her sister in her absence.

“Why didn’t you inform us of your return?” Yan Wei asked with a bright smile as she leaned on Shao Heng’s shoulder.

“I’ve only been back for a few days,” Yan Shu murmured. She had no intention of catching up with her sister, who was obviously now her ex-husband’s lover. “Well, I still have things to do.”

But Yan Wei’s hand shot out and grabbed her before she could turn away. “We haven’t seen each other in so long. I’d like us to sit down and have a good chat. Don’t you want that, too?”

Yan Shu smirked. “How could I not want to?”

“Good! I’m so relieved that you still treat me as your younger sister.” Yan Wei beamed before glancing at the nameplate on Yan Shu’s chest. “So, you work for the Pearl Hotel? Is your team in charge of today’s banquet?”

“That’s right.”

“Marvelous! Heng and I have a son called Le, and he will be celebrating his fourth birthday next month. Won’t you help us organize his party?”

Four years old…

It turned out that these two were already hooking up shortly after she had left the country.

Yan Shu ignored the pang of pain she felt and said, “I just came back, so I’m rather busy. On top of my work, I also need to pay attention to my boyfriend on my off days. But I can help you make arrangements with the other managers at the hotel.”

“You have a boyfriend?” Yan Wei exclaimed, pretending to look surprised. “And he doesn’t care that you’ve had an abortion before?”

She quickly covered her mouth, as if realizing she had said something wrong. “I’m sorry, I got carried away. Please don’t be mad. Heng, help me out here.”

Shao Heng revealed a mocking smile and spoke for the first time. “Why should you be sorry when you’re only stating facts? She did have an abortion.”

“Watch your tongue, Shao Heng!” Yan Shu snapped before she could stop herself.

If only she didn’t have her job to consider, she would have smashed the wine bottle she was holding on this insolent man’s head.

She still had no idea who that man was, from that night five years ago.

More importantly, her child was innocent in all of this. Yan Xiaosui was her only ray of light in the darkest time of her life. No one could humiliate her daughter; Yan Shu wouldn’t stand for it.

“What, are you still trying to defend that dead bastard of yours?” Shao Heng taunted, his face filled with indignation.

“Hey, now. Don’t fight. We’re all family here.” Yan Wei put on an act of stopping the argument, but there was a cruel glint in her eyes and a smug tilt to her lips.

“Sister, you are Le’s aunt, so you should be the one to organize his birthday party.” Yan Wei took out a stack of bills from her purse and stuffed it in Yan Shu’s free hand. “Here, take this as the deposit. When the time comes, make sure to bring your boyfriend along, okay? We would love to meet him.”

With that, Yan Wei pulled Shao Heng and they both left.

Yan Shu was no match against her five years ago, and she still wasn’t now.

On the day of her son’s party, she would definitely reveal Yan Shu’s true colors to her boyfriend, and to everyone else who cared to know.
