C6 The Men's Room

The sudden encounter left an acrid taste in Yan Shu’s mouth.

She walked to the side and was pouring herself a glass of champagne when Director Yee rushed over. “Manager Yan, a few special guests are coming. Ask the kitchen to prepare a table of your specialty dishes.”

He had made several attempts at a business collaboration with the Fus, but he had yet to meet the man who ran the family business.

And so, he was beyond excited to learn that Fu Yunjian was coming today.

“This is your tip. Tell your chefs to do their best.” Director Yee stuffed some bills into her hands. “If they are pleased with the food, I will reward you handsomely!”

Yan Shu glanced at the crumpled cash in her hands, too outraged to speak.

She didn’t lack money at all!

She had only come to work at the Pearl Hotel for the sake of having a job, and the chance to occasionally use the kitchen to whip something up for Yan Xiaosui.

Yan Shu went to the kitchen in a huff. Only the assistants were there.

“Where’s Chef Soong?”

“He sprained his waist,” one of them replied. “He is currently resting at the lounge.”

“Important guests are expected. Director Yee wants you to prepare a full table of specialty dishes.” Yan Shu paused for a moment and asked, “If Chef Soong is injured, who will take over?”

The staff visibly balked at the prospect of cooking for someone important.

Their reaction made her temples throb.

Director Yee wasn’t merely a client, he was also the hotel’s supplier of toiletries and housekeeping essentials. If he was displeased with today’s banquet, they would be in big trouble.

Yan Shu took out the money he had given her and distributed it among the staff. “Go and take a break. I’ll take it from here.”

“Thank you, Manager Yan!”

The assistants accepted the money and left the kitchen.

Once alone, Yan Shu closed the door, put on an apron, and got to work.

Her movements were fast yet precise, as though she had done this a million times before.

Twenty minutes later, she finished preparing ten main courses and two soup dishes. She removed her apron and called for the servers to take the food out.

In the garden.

Four people were seated at the newly set up table.

“Director Fu, it’s my honor to have you grace my wife’s birthday celebration!” Director Yee raised a glass to toast Fu Yunjian.

The latter smiled politely and clinked glasses with the host.

Soon, a handful of waiters came over with food-laden trays. The scent of the dishes wafted over to the guests, whetting their appetites long before the food was placed on the table.

Director Yee was quite satisfied with the spread before him. He turned to Fu Yunjian in earnest.

“Director Fu, these dishes look good. Would you like to bring some back and let the Little Master have a taste?”

He knew that Fu Yunjian’s son suffered from anorexia. The family had enlisted the help of acclaimed doctors and chefs around the world, to no avail.

“Thank you,” Fu Yunjian nodded.

“Of course.” Director Yee motioned at the waiter and instructed him to pack a portion of the dishes before they started eating.

Fu Yunjian was a picky eater himself, but he found that he rather liked the food.

The Pearl Hotel had hired an excellent new chef.

Meanwhile, Yan Shu downed a few more glasses of champagne before going to the washroom.

Director Yee had adopted a Japanese layout for his villa, and the main floor had many intersecting hallways. It took her a while, but she finally found the bathroom.

She opened the door and was greeted by the sight of a man peeing at a urinal. She had accidentally entered the men’s room.

“Get out!” Fu Yunjian barked, his face dark and ominous.

“I’m sorry!” Yan Shu was about to excuse herself, but the man’s tone didn’t sit right with her. She was already in an irritable mood as it was.

She crossed her arms over her chest and glared at him. “Why are you making it sound like I did this on purpose?”
