C9 Fire Her

"Thank you for coming out to meet me." Fu Yunjian reached out and shook hands with Director Zhao.

“Please don’t mention it. It is my duty as your subordinate.” Director Zhao led the other man inside and introduced Yan Shu to him. “She recently joined us as one of the managers. Her name is Yan Shu.”

Fu YunJian peered at her and smirked ever so slightly. “Yes, we’ve met before.”

“Is that so?” Director Zhao asked in surprise.

Yan Shu managed a tight smile. “Yes, I accidentally ran into Director Fu’s car the other morning.”

By the look of things, it seemed that she was getting fired today.

Fu Yunjian couldn’t be bothered to speak to her any further. He followed Director Zhao into the meeting room to convene with the other top stakeholders of the hotel. As for Yan Shu, she stayed behind in the lobby to attend to her work.

An hour later, they received a call at the front desk. “Manager Yan,” a receptionist said. “Director Fu wants you to come to the conference room.”

Yan Shu finished her task and took a deep, fortifying breath before heading toward the elevators.

At that same moment, a taxi arrived outside the hotel. Yan Xiaosui hopped out of the vehicle, her pigtails bouncing in the wind.

She was too bored back at home, so she decided to pay her Mommy a visit.

A hotel employee greeted her as she hobbled inside. “Little Friend, are you all by yourself?”

Yan Xiaosui looked up and flashed her million-dollar smile. “My Mommy is shopping at a store nearby. She will come and get me later. Sister, may I go take a seat at the lounge?”

“Of course!”

The woman ushered her to the lounge area and even gave her a glass of milk and some candies.

Yan Xiaosui gladly popped a piece into her mouth.

She knew that her mother was the lobby manager in the hotel, but she didn’t see Yan Shu anywhere. Was she busy with something?

Yan Xiaosui was looking around when she spotted a familiar boy wearing a hood and a mask coming in from Gate C.

He looked like the little sausage thief from the airport!

Yan Xiaosui trailed him with her eyes and saw him enter the elevator. After a moment’s hesitation, she grabbed her bag and chased after him.

Meanwhile, Yan Shu had just stepped into the conference room. Fu Yunjian was leaning against the chair at the head of the table, looking arrogant and domineering. Director Zhao was seated across from him.

“Director Fu, Director Zhao.”

Fu Yunjian tossed a file in front of her and said, “My assistant just received a report stating that you got this job through dubious connections.”

Yan Shu could immediately tell that this was done by the employee she had punished on her first day.

“You’re misunderstanding something, Director Fu,” Director Zhao hurriedly said.

“I was the one who contacted her and asked her to come to the Pearl Hotel for an interview. I knew that she worked in several five-star hotels in the past and thought that she would prove to be a valuable asset. She passed the interviews in one go, all five of them. The Human Resources Department kept a video, if you’d like to check. Everything is well aboveboard.”

“So what if she worked in five-star hotels before? She never specialized in management. I am not in the habit of keeping employees who have yet to prove themselves.” Fu Yunjian stood up and buttoned his suit jacket. “Fire her.”

Yan Shu’s hands clenched into fists.

In truth, she didn’t really mind getting fired. But she wasn’t pleased with the way things had panned out, with her being framed and slandered. Most of all, she was furious at the way this man was looking down on her.

“So, you’re firing me because I have no prior experience in my current department?” she questioned. “I didn’t expect you to be so narrow-minded, Director Fu.”

“Yan Shu!” Director Zhao cried out, sweat beading on his forehead.

He understood that she might be upset, but she couldn’t afford to run her mouth like this.

Fu Yunjian paused at the provocation. He narrowed his eyes at Yan Shu. “Do you have a problem with me firing you?”

“Of course, I do.” Yan Shu lifted her chin and took two steps forward.

“I’ve worked in six five-star hotels and have a lot of experience in different departments. Your words mean nothing to me. A sensible boss wouldn’t discard my skills just because I didn’t major in one particular area.”

She tilted her head to the side and grinned. “Director Fu, is it possible that you’re doing this to take revenge on me for what happened at Director Yee’s villa?”

Fu Yunjian’s lips curled into a sneer. “I don’t want to waste my time on the likes of you. I fired you because you are not fit to be in this position, that’s all.”
