C19 Wake up

Feng Qingchen didn't want to return as someone insignificant. Sure, she could just find evidence to bring down Mrs. Yuh, but life would be less interesting that way. She might even end up being treated like a daughter, as an amnesiac posed no threat. Why cause suspicion when she could be well cared for and eventually married off?

"Daughter, I am... ah..." Mrs. Yuh approached Feng Qingchen, visibly emotional, tears in her eyes. But as she got closer, she let out a startled scream and collapsed to the ground.

"What happened?" Hee Yingyun frowned and turned to the maid. "Help your mistress up. It's unseemly for her to be sprawled on the floor."

"General, she's not our daughter," Mrs. Yuh suddenly shouted, pointing at Feng Qingchen. Her words left everyone stunned, like a bombshell going off.

The General had said this was the Second Miss, and everyone had seen her before. This person looked exactly like the Second Miss, so why was Mrs. Yuh claiming otherwise? Since the Second Miss was Mrs. Yuh's own child, her words couldn't be dismissed as nonsense.

"What are you talking about? This is clearly our Ying'er. Have you lost your mind from excitement?" Hee Yingyun frowned, puzzled.

Because of the jade pendant and Feng Qingchen's appearance, it was almost certain that this person was her daughter.

"General, Ying'er is my child, and no one is more heartbroken than I am about what happened to her," Mrs. Yuh said, covering her face as she cried, though her body trembled slightly. She then pointed at Feng Qingchen and declared, "This person may look exactly like my daughter, but you are not my daughter."

Feng Qingchen leaned back in the mahogany chair, casually picking up a piece of pastry, watching Mrs. Yuh as if she were watching a play.

One had to admit, Mrs. Yuh was quite the actress. In today's world, she'd be an Oscar winner for sure.

The pastry was gone in a few bites, and Feng Qingchen sipped her tea slowly. It wasn't that she was pretending to be calm; she simply had no idea how long she'd been in a meditative state on the cold jade bed, and she was starving.

These ancient pastries were far more refined than modern ones, with a much fresher taste, which she enjoyed.

"General, when Ying'er was five, she was climbing a tree and got caught on a branch, leaving a scar on her neck. She thought it was ugly, so she always wore clothes to cover it. But this woman here, her neckline is low, and there's no scar at all. Scars don't just disappear. How could she be my daughter?" Mrs. Yuh's eyes were slightly red as she pointed at Feng Qingchen, her gaze icy.

"Though I don't know your intentions for coming to the General's Mansion, it's not a place just anyone can waltz into," Mrs. Yuh declared with the authority of the Great Madam, her tone icy. "If you reveal your identity now, you might still have a chance to walk away."

Hearing Mrs. Yuh's words, those around were taken aback. As the birth mother of Miss Ying'er, she naturally wanted the best for her daughter. But for her to speak this way, could it be that this person was truly an imposter?

In an instant, the crowd's gaze turned wary as they looked at Feng Qingchen.
