C5 She Got the Answer

"Snap out of it, there's a fish coming," Divine Sovereign Fengming gently reminded.

Feng Qingchen blinked, feeling a bit frustrated. She found herself daydreaming in front of Divine Sovereign Fengming, something she wouldn't have done if she were back in modern times.

The net, woven from vines, blocked the fish's path, and it was quite a catch. She could see five or six fish of varying sizes with pale yellow shadows swimming inside.

Feng Qingchen grabbed the net and pulled with all her might, panting as she dragged the fish to the shore. It felt more exhausting than running a few miles.

The fish thrashed wildly in the net, splashing water everywhere, soaking her white fur coat, making it look like a makeup disaster.

She gutted and cleaned each fish, even though two were bigger than her. But with her small frame, comparable to a mythical beast, a single swipe of her paw split the fish bellies open.

"Use this to hold the fish; the ground's dirty," Divine Sovereign Fengming said with a hint of disdain.

With a slight gesture of his finger, a smooth, delicate white jade plate floated over.

Feng Qingchen paused in her work, her sharp eyes noticing the plate was made of top-quality mutton-fat jade. Her heart skipped a beat, and she almost instinctively wanted to take it with her.

Such a large platter would be priceless in modern times, yet here it was, casually tossed aside by this Divine Sovereign. She secretly planned that once she regained her freedom, she would ask this wealthy Divine Sovereign for one of those platters.

After cleaning the six fish, she was completely soaked.

“Clean yourself up before coming back,” the Divine Sovereign's disdainful voice rang out. This Sovereign was quite the perfectionist!

Feng Qingchen rolled her eyes, cleaned herself up, and stood by the shore, shaking off the water.

With a flick of his finger, Divine Sovereign Fengming released a white light, instantly drying her completely.

Was that a cleansing spell? Then why did he make her get in the water?

Feng Qingchen's eyes flickered, but before she could react, the white light pulled her onto the white fur rug.

Landing headfirst, Feng Qingchen was not in a good mood. She clenched her little paws and spoke coldly, “Divine Sovereign, what is this about? I can walk on my own.”

“But by the time you get here, your paws would be dirty again,” Divine Sovereign Fengming replied calmly, his indifferent gaze sweeping over her, a thin smile on his lips. “If you're going to cook for me, your paws must stay clean, unless you don't want them anymore.”

Feng Qingchen remained silent, watching as Divine Sovereign Fengming gestured grandly. In no time, a fire sprang up on the white blanket, which remained pristine and unblemished, clearly a magical item. The blanket was laden with all sorts of seasonings, and Feng Qingchen meticulously prepared the ingredients, her hind legs tucked under her as she deftly handled the spices with her front paws.

Divine Sovereign Fengming narrowed his eyes, a faint, knowing smile playing on his lips, as if a suspicion had been confirmed. "You seem quite practiced at this. Do you do it often?"

Feng Qingchen paused, then calmly replied, "Surely you haven't forgotten I was just born."

With that, she handed him a freshly grilled fish. The sovereign had thoughtfully provided her with a small glove for her paw, keeping it clean, though she suspected he still found her little paws a bit bothersome.

Divine Sovereign Fengming glanced down at the fish in his hand, its golden hue and enticing aroma inviting him to take a bite. He paused briefly after the first taste, then continued eating slowly. Before long, only the fish bones remained.
