C2 REVEALING THE PAST

Runo took her children to her hometown to visit her grandmother since their university is on strike.

Mrs Moses the twins great grandmother called the girls to her bedroom to chitchat with them.

"Great grandmother, momma has told us a lot about you. ". Betty said in happiness. "I'm so happy to finally meet you".

" I want to live long like you Great grandmother. How old are you?" Becky added.

"Becky that is so rude of you". Betty warn her sister.

" Goodie princess, she is not complaining so what is your problem?". Becky fired.

"But I'm only trying to correct you, sorry oh". Betty answered and looked away.

"Enough you two. Don't tell me this is the way you disturb my granddaughter?" Mrs Moses asks and they shake their heads

Mrs Moses is the only survivor of the akpabio's clan. Her children were slayed in her presence all because of the things her late father did. She lived all her life in grief, she is a widow and nobody accepted to marry her because of the bad things her father did, she even tried committing suicide various times but God always save her from death. Later she found out that her youngest daughter got pregnant twice for different men. She became happy again that God has decided to wipe away her tears. She took the two girls; Efe and Runo and trained them. Now she is the one enjoying her hard works

"Well my daughter, i am 105years. Can i hear word now?". . Mrs Moses replied.

"Great grandmother please tell us your story". The twins chorused together.

Mrs Moses sighed and began her story.

"It all started in... well that's doesn't matter. There are these sisters, infact twins.

They love each other and nothing can separate them from each other."

"Great grandmother, we promise not to fight again, just tell us a real story". Becky said.

Mrs Moses laughed and patted Becky's head and said " one of the twins behaves like you. Trust me this is a real life story, it doesn't have to be interesting at the beginning. ".

Betty smiled and held her sister's hand and whispered into her sister's ear" chill, trust great grandmother, old women get tired easily. Once she falls asleep we will run to the stream to play."

"What are you planning about?". Mrs Moses asks but instead they chuckled .

"Well, the story goes like this". Mrs Moses began. " The girls are so pretty and amazing, guess what?".

"One is good and the other wayward". Becky replied.

"No my daughter. They happen to have super powers". Mrs Moses continued

"Both of them?". Betty asks.

"Yes my dear. ". Mrs Moses replied.

Betty turned and whispered into Becky's ear. " See she isn't talking about us. You are the only one with supernatural powers."

Becky ignored her and asks her great grandmother a question " ma'am please tell us a real story not a fairy tale".

" Like i said earlier, this is a true story". Mrs Moses defends herself and continued "Their names... Oh old age I've forgotten their names. They come from a small village and they happen to be the king's mistress children".

"Why does this story sounds familiar". Becky said looking at Betty for backup but nothing came out from her mouth.

"Maybe I am just overreacting". Becky said.

"Can i continue my story now?". Mrs Moses said and Becky nods her head.

"Their mother came from a supernatural world where all beings exist, vampires, fairies, witches, yeah both good and bad. Their mother is a witch and yet the king fell in love with her.

Years went by and the twins grew up without knowing their father. On their 18th birthday...". She paused and looked at the twins for a while, then she continued.

"Something dramatic happened. As they were celebrating their birthday..." Mrs Moses began to cough.

"The queen found out about her husband affairs with another woman and she sent men to kill the girls on their birthday. That's what happened right great grandmother?". Becky asked anxiously.

Betty became confused , she could recall what Becky usually tell her as a moonlight story when they were younger.

"Becky, don't bother yourself it's just a story." Betty said.

Becky stood up yawning " I'm getting tired, can we go to the river and watch fishes and other stuffs".

"Sure but you have to be careful. Please Becky take care of your sister". Mrs Moses adviced

" It is just a story great grandmother, chillax we won't go near the river". Becky said and turned to Betty " you heard her right?, I will be the one taking care of you ".

"Whatever". Betty said and hissed.

"Whatever happens, it's destiny". Mrs Moses murmured to herself.

" I love your hair". One of the village girls behind them who is going to fetch firewood comments

" Thank you". The twins said in chorus.

"Are you going to the river?". The girl asks.

"Yes, any problem?". Becky asks.

"No. It's just that the white men are working in that area. they warned us to stay away from there." She replied.

"White men?!. This has been our dream Betty"

" Your dream Becky, common let's go back home and come back tomorrow". Betty said turning back

" Betty for once let's do what I want to do. Pity me girl. You know how obsessed I am with oyimbo people". Becky pleads dragging Betty's arm.

"Becky I feel strange. I think this is a bad idea...."

"Bad idea!!?," Becky screamed in annoyance. " Everything I do is bad why Elizabeth?, Answer me witch".

"Do you just call me a witch, Becky?" Betty asks in a shocked state.

"I am so sorry...i ..i.. it just came out of my mouth because of my anger." Becky pleads and hugged her sister. "I love you". She added.

Betty sighed and moved forward. "Aren't you going again?"

Becky hugged her again and pecked her. "Thanks baby".

They got to the riverside and saw a lot of white men working.

Becky pointed at a guy and said" Look at that guy, he is so cute".

"Because of his dimples?".

"No silly. Can't you see his flexible muscles, his eyes, pointed nose," Becky said blushing. " he looks so amazing". Becky added and moved closer to the site.

"Watch out!!!". Betty screamed, a big log of wood hanging in the air flew in Becky's direction, she ducked and fell into the river.
