C9 What Should She Do?
From start to finish, Mo Yu seemed as cold as ice, indifferent to everything around him. Mo Li, overwhelmed and lost, ran out crying, her heart unable to bear it any longer. Mo Yu wanted to chase after her, but Lee Feng's stern voice stopped him in his tracks, "Don't forget your fiancée is back!" Those words froze Mo Yu, making it impossible for him to move.
Homeless and adrift, Mo Li wandered the streets like a lost soul. Just then, her phone rang with an unfamiliar number. "Hello, is this Mo Li? I'd like to talk to you," said a woman with a crisp voice.
"Who are you? Do we know each other?" Mo Li asked warily.
"The café across the street. Come on in." It seemed like the caller had been watching her, as the café was just a short distance away.
With suspicion, Mo Li entered the café and took the business card from the short-haired, professional-looking woman. Seeing the name Hsiao Zi, Mo Li gasped. Why would the daughter of a national real estate mogul want to meet her? She also knew this woman was a huge fan of Gu Feixi.
Unexpectedly, Hsiao Zi handed Mo Li an envelope, saying, "Take a look for yourself." Mo Li opened it to find photos that made her heart race—each one showing Mo Yu in intimate moments with another girl.
Hsiao Zi said calmly, "I know you like Mo Yu, but there's no future for you two. While studying abroad, Mo Yu met my sister, and they're about to get married. It's time for you to step aside. I have three reasons for meeting you: first, to tell you the truth; second, to ask you to leave the men my sister and I care about; and third, to offer you a disappearing fee."
With that, Hsiao Zi handed Mo Li a check for $400,000.
Seeing the surprise in Mo Li's eyes, Hsiao Zi became even more assertive. "I know you're currently Gu Feixi's lover, and eventually, you'll be cast aside. Even if you're not short on money now, this is a significant amount. You'll need it someday, at least to avoid relying on your youth for a few more years."
Mo Li couldn't help but retort, "Sorry, Miss Hsiao, I don't need this money—not now, not ever."
"Why refuse? No one turns down money," Hsiao Zi insisted, pushing the check back.
"Buying love with money, Miss Hsiao, underestimates the world of men. If your sister truly has charm, she wouldn't need you to play the spokesperson. And even if Gu Feixi were looking for a lover, it wouldn't be someone easily satisfied. Frankly, Miss Hsiao, this $400,000 seems rather petty." With that, Mo Li turned and left.
Hsiao Zi was left alone, pounding the table in frustration, gritting her teeth as she watched Mo Li walk away.
Although Mo Li knew the truth, he wasn't ready to accept it. He immediately called Mo Yu.
"I know everything. Why?" Mo Li tried to keep his voice steady, as he had genuinely liked this man for years.
To his surprise, Mo Yu's response was calm. "Since you know, there's nothing to hide. Before I went abroad, I did like you because you were beautiful, had a great figure, and could make money for me. But after going abroad, my perspective changed. I realized the industry you're in is too dirty, and I could never marry you."
Mo Li's voice trembled, "Why did you use me?"
"If I hadn't used your money, how could I have had the chance to study at an elite academy and connect with someone like Hsiao Xiao, who comes from a wealthy family? Thanks to you, I can offer you a deal. After I marry Hsiao Xiao, I'll let you be my mistress. As long as you keep me satisfied and serve me well, it'll work out," Mo Yu shamelessly replied.
