C8 An Interesting Incident

Jane has joined as a junior superviser in the restaurant and her duties mainly included handling the entries to special area of presidential suites by checking booking cards and handling minor issues or complaints of the customers. While she was checking the cards one group of two men and a woman appeared in front of her.

As per the procedures she immediately asked one of the men, "Excuse me Sir, can you please show me your entry card."

To which he replied, " We forget the card in the car. We are all with our CEO Mr. Jones. I'm his secretary." She then politely said, " I'm really sorry Sir. But I can't let you in without card. It's against our policy. Please, bring the card first and only then I can allow you to enter the suite area."

This time it was the woman who spoke, " Look girl, I'm Mr. Jones's personal assistant. You have no idea to whom you are going to mess with. I strongly suggest you to allow our entry otherwise the consequences will be svere."

There was a stubbornness about Jane that she never can bear to be frightened at the will of others. Moreover, she was right and doing her duty.

Jane humbly replied, " Pardon me Ma'am for not benefiting from your advice. But neither I know who is Mr. Jones nor I'm interested in knowing. Even if I would have known him, I would still have asked for the card. Please cooperate with me otherwise don't blame for being impolite."

Three of them were arguing with Jane for a quarter to an hour when a young man of about 1.8 meter height, with sharp features and gentleman like appearance came there and asked what was happening there. The secretary then explained to him everything vividly added with few of his imaginary scenes.

The man was nobody but Mr. Kevin Jones who was a very important person for the restaurant. He was not only a regular customer here but also a business partner of the Chairman, Mr. Wilson. Though he was very humble person with enthusiastic personality but nobody dares to offend him. Because he was a self-made person having all the means to ruin those who try to push him around.

When he saw Jane was standing calmly without any hint of uneasiness or fear, he became curious to find someone who was not afraid of offending him.

Jane didn't say anything until he approached nearer to her and asked with a smile that why she was denying their entry. She was not like the many other women who might get influenced by his power, charm or smiles, she firmly stood her ground. Again with same level of politeness she asked, "Sir, I'm just doing my duty. Please, show me the card and I will send you all to the suite myself."

Mr. Jones was uncommonly impressed at her behavior. He turned to his staff and scolded them for not cooperating with the restaurant employee and asked them to bring the card immediately.

He found Jane different from all other women and for knowing more about her, he then tried to converse with her. He started by praising her for doing her duty diligently, and not fearing of anything that comes the way of doing right thing. He also apologized for the behavior of his staff.

Jane find the man quite sensible and humble. So she softly replied, " I don't deserve all the praise sir. After all I'm doing what I'm being paid for. Hence I can't give anyone a chance to hold something against me." He inclined to hear more from her and told about his being an important person to Mr. Wilson and nobody here had ever done anything like that before. " I'm extremely sorry for being blunt. But maybe it's because they know you well or fear your powers as explained by your staff in a kind of veiled threat. But my courage always rises at every attempt to intimidate me." replied Jane.

He seemed to be more aroused about Jane after that conversation. Before he could ask anything further his staff came with card. Jane led them to their special suite and wished to Mr. Jones, "Have a good day, Sir". To which he replied,. " I'm already having one".

Have Jane done right or his integrity for the job is going to bring upon some disaster for her?
