C3 You Are Not Allowed to Touch Her
Tang Zhong laughed heartily, "Speak of the devil! Daughter, this is Lee Yi, our county's new Deputy Governor. He's young but already passed the scholar exams. His name will soon be on the honor roll, haha!"
He then introduced Tang Wan'er to Lee Yi. After they exchanged greetings, Tang Zhong remembered that Lee Yi wasn't supposed to report to the office for a few more days.
Lee Yi explained, "I heard someone in town was in trouble and hoped I could offer some help."
"Good, good! A man of action," Tang Zhong said, pointing to the body on the ground. "This is the case we're investigating."
Lee Yi looked over and immediately felt his stomach churn. He rushed to the side and vomited.
Everyone looked at him sympathetically. Tang Wan'er frowned and handed him a handkerchief, "Are you okay?"
"I'm fine!" Lee Yi wiped his mouth. Despite the lingering taste, he was determined to push through. But his pale face gave him away, and Tang Wan'er quickly intervened, "You should head back."
"Miss Tang, I really can do this," Lee Yi insisted.
Tang Wan'er didn't argue further, "Are you quick at writing?"
Lee Yi was a bit surprised but nodded, "I can manage."
"Did you bring a pen and paper?"
Lee Yi shook his head, unsure why they would be needed at the scene.
Tang Wan'er understood and quickly handed him a pen and paper from a wooden box, saying, "Write down whatever I say."
Lee Yi looked at Tang Zhong in confusion, and Tang Zhong nodded in agreement, "Do as my daughter says."
With these instructions given, Tang Wan'er was about to touch the body when Lee Yi, following her, avoided looking directly.
"Don't move." A thunderous voice stopped her in her tracks.
Turning around, they saw a breathless man running toward them from a distance.
Carrying a heavy book basket, he swayed as he blocked Tang Wan'er's path, scolding, "Who are you? You can't just touch the body."
Tang Wan'er pointed to Tang Zhong, who was busy nearby, and said, "I'm his daughter."
"I don't care who you are..." The man looked up, saw Tang Zhong, and quickly swallowed his words, "Even if you're the County Magistrate's daughter, you can't just interfere."
Tang Wan'er ignored him and instead stared directly at Tang Zhong, clearly asking for an explanation.
Feeling a bit guilty, Tang Zhong glanced at her and nodded, "Sweetheart, this is the post-mortem examiner I hired. He's right; this bloody scene isn't suitable for you to examine."
"Besides her face, do you see any other blood on her?" Wan'er shot him a sharp look.
"Yes, yes, but let the examiner check first, and you can add your observations later," Tang Zhong replied with a placating smile, tightening his grip to keep her from getting closer.
The examiner strutted toward the body like a victorious rooster, head held high. But as soon as he saw the corpse, he let out a scream and fell back, scrambling away in a panic. "A ghost... a ghost!"
Wan'er couldn't help but laugh, whispering to Tang Zhong, "Father, how much did you spend this time?"
Tang Zhong looked pained. "Ten bucks!"
Wan'er stared at him in disbelief, clearly disapproving. "Father, you really went all out this time. The last guy only cost three."
"Shh! Keep it down, don't let anyone hear," Tang Zhong pulled Wan'er aside, lowering his voice. "Blame this crazy weather. The guy originally wanted twenty, but I haggled him down to ten."
Talking about it, Tang Zhong couldn't help but feel proud. When it came to bargaining, he was second to none.
