C11 He Was Chased away

Gu Beixue couldn't possibly be afraid of them; after all, she'd been through enough to fear nothing. She could be her own worst enemy if she wanted to.

The world seemed to pause for a moment. The villagers stood still, no one making the first move or speaking up.

With a cold smirk, Gu Beixue glanced at the villagers. They all appeared to be honest folks, showing no signs of aggression.

"I'm just here looking for someone. What are you all doing? Trying to gang up on a woman?"

The villagers were puzzled by her words, prompting one of them to ask, "Why don't you explain what's going on? We're reasonable people. She said you were going to hit her. What's the real story here?"

The woman, realizing the villagers were hesitant to act, worried that if Gu Beixue revealed the truth, it would show she was in the wrong. But she couldn't let Gu Beixue find out about Lee Jiutian, so she was lost in thought.

"I'm here today looking for Lee Jiutian. As soon as I knocked, this woman started arguing with me, accusing me of being involved with him."

The villagers exchanged uneasy glances, trying to appear calm while feeling tense inside.

Someone quickly said, "You've got the wrong place. There's no one named Lee Jiutian here. You should just head back."

Gu Beixue was taken aback by their denial. The kids in the village had mentioned it, and the woman had clearly indicated Lee Jiutian was here.

"How could that be?" she countered, pointing at the woman. "The kids told me, and so did she."

A villager, growing impatient, replied, "I told you, there's no one by that name here. We've lived here for ages, and there's never been a Lee Jiutian."

The woman realized she'd spoken too hastily, driven by jealousy, and quickly added, "Who said there's a Lee Jiutian in my house? I never admitted to that."

Despite the woman's earlier argument, Gu Beixue was convinced this was Lee Jiutian's home. But what was going on? Why were they suddenly denying it?

Gu Beixue now realized that the situation was more complicated than she initially thought. She had assumed that finding Lee Jiutian would reveal the truth. These people were excellent at pretending and even better at cooperating; they could have been actors.

Beixue smiled slightly, her expression calm. She couldn't afford to make a scene; otherwise, they might kick her out. "If that's the case, I must have made a mistake. Sorry for bothering you," she said, turning to leave.

The villagers didn't intend to do anything to Beixue. When they heard she was leaving, they didn't make things difficult for her. They followed her, as if to ensure she was really leaving, and only dispersed once she was out of sight.

Beixue had hoped to find a place to hide until nightfall when Lee Jiutian would surely be home, but that seemed impossible now. Still, she wasn't ready to give up. She had finally gotten a lead and wasn't about to let it slip away.

Back at the inn, she pondered how to approach them again. After this encounter, they would surely be on guard. She picked up her phone, typed a message, and hit send, standing by the window for a long time, lost in thought.

Meanwhile, at the Bai family home, Jee Huiru was on the phone with Bai Luo. "Bai Luo, you haven't been home for a while. I'm not feeling well. Could you come and see me?"

"If you're not feeling well, go to the hospital. I'm busy," Bai Luo replied coolly.

With that, Bai Luo hung up, leaving Jee Huiru fuming at home. She angrily muttered, "Is it because Zhou Muqing is back? Is that why you don't want to come home?"

Her guess was spot on. It was indeed because of Muqing. Bai Luo was reminded of the past. If he hadn't given in back then, he would have married Muqing and lived a carefree life. But things hadn't turned out as he had hoped.

While Bai Luo was lost in thought, his phone rang again.

“Master's calling, master's calling.”

Bai Luo picked up his phone and saw it was his mother calling, so he answered. Before he could speak, a gentle voice came through:

“Daddy, it's Qing'er. You haven't visited me in days. When are you coming to see me?”

Only when facing her did a smile appear on Bai Luo's face.

“Qing'er, do you miss Daddy?”

“Yes, I miss you so much!”

Bai Qing'er sounded a bit like she was pouting, with a hint of sadness in her voice.

Bai Luo quickly comforted her, “Sweetheart, I'll come to see you soon, and I’ve got a gift for you!”

On the other end, Bai Qing'er was delighted and said, “I'll be waiting for you. Hurry up.”

Bai Luo then tidied up and went to buy some toys for his daughter, but just as he was about to leave, there was a knock at the office door.

“Knock, knock.”

Mooh Cheng walked in, approached the desk, and respectfully said, “Director Bai, Miss Gu has left the city. We don’t know where she went.”

“Let her be. It’s for the best if she’s gone.”

His voice was cold, a stark contrast to the warmth he had just shown while talking to Bai Qing'er.

Gu Beixue had been cautious. The reason no one could track her was that she had arranged for a new identity to avoid these people.

Bai Luo bought a lot of toys at the store for his daughter and then drove to an upscale neighborhood, chosen for its excellent security. That’s why Bai Luo had arranged for them to stay there.

As soon as Bai Luo reached the doorstep, the door swung open, and a girl who bore a striking resemblance to Gu Beixue ran out, throwing herself into Bai Luo's arms.

“Daddy, you’re finally here.”

Bai Luo pinched Bai Qing'er's nose and smiled, “Qing'er, did you miss Daddy?”

Bai Qing'er nodded enthusiastically, then showered Bai Luo's face with kisses.

Bai Luo carried Bai Qing'er inside, and the two elders were delighted to see him. Bai Luo's mother said, "Xiaoxiao, come down now. Your dad's been working all day and he's tired. How can you still want him to carry you?"

Bai Qing'er firmly replied, "Grandma, I'm not coming down. I want Dad to hold me."

Hearing this, the elders had no choice but to let her be. However, what Bai Luo said next left them a bit stunned.

"Qing'er, how about next time Dad takes you to see your mom?"

Bai Qing'er asked in surprise, "Really? I really have a mom? Didn't you tell me she was gone?"
