C12 Huo Sinian's Arrival
Bai Luo had already agreed with Beixue, so he needed to talk to his daughter, Qing'er. If she disagreed, that would be ideal!
However, how could Qing'er disagree? Seeing others with their moms always left her feeling a bit off-balance.
When Qing'er questioned Bai Luo, he calmly said, "Your mom was away before, but she's back now. Do you want to see her?"
Qing'er nodded, not showing much excitement, and Bai Luo gently patted her head with a smile.
The two elders exchanged glances, unsure of what to say.
Later, as Qing'er went to her room to do homework, Bai Luo's father asked seriously, "Is that girl out?"
Bai Luo replied calmly, "Yes, she's out."
"When did she get out? Why didn't you mention it?"
In front of his father, Bai Luo maintained a commanding presence. Now that he was in charge of the family, there was no need to act as he did before.
"She got out a while ago. Why should I tell you? I divorced her long ago. If it weren't for Xiaoxiao, I wouldn't even look at her."
His father sighed and said, "You're still holding a grudge about the past, forcing you to marry her. What's the point of bringing it up now?"
"Hmph," Bai Luo snorted coldly.
"Seeing you like this now, I really don't want to watch anymore. It's a pity for Qing'er, but I'm too tired to care. You've got it all under control now, and I can't do anything about it!"
To be honest, Bai Luo's parents always liked Beixue. She was smart and beautiful, but they couldn't deny that her family's influence in the city played a big part.
Thinking about it, Bai Luo felt truly sorry for Muqing. If he had run away with her back then, maybe none of this would have happened.
"Don't bring up the past again. If it weren't for you, none of this would have happened!" Bai Luo said, full of authority.
Hearing their argument, she walked over from the kitchen where she was cooking.
"What are you two arguing about? It's rare for you to come home, and you're still bickering non-stop."
Neither of them responded, both looking away stubbornly.
After dinner, Bai Qing'er playfully said, "Dad, why don't you stay over tonight? It's been so long since I got to sleep next to you."
Faced with Qing'er's request, Bai Luo couldn't refuse. Her words reminded him it had indeed been a long time.
Meanwhile, far away, Gu Beixue felt lonely, sipping on a bottle of wine. She missed her daughter and her parents.
Just as she was getting a bit tipsy, there was a knock on the motel door.
When Gu Beixue opened it, she saw a very handsome man, but she had no other thoughts.
"Why is it you?" Gu Beixue asked, a bit surprised.
"Why can't it be me? Long time no see!"
The handsome man was none other than Huo Sinian, who grew up with Gu Beixue and had feelings for her.
At that moment, Gu Beixue's face was slightly flushed, making her look even more alluring.
As Huo Sinian entered, he was hit by the strong smell of alcohol and sternly said, "What? You've taken up drinking now?"
Gu Beixue picked up the bottle again, but Huo Sinian quickly grabbed it from her hand.
"You can't keep doing this to yourself. You still have me."
Seeing Gu Beixue like this pained Huo Sinian.
Gu Beixue gave a bitter smile and continued, "I'm not the heiress of the family anymore. I'm nothing. My daughter doesn't recognize me, and every attempt to uncover the past is blocked."
As soon as she finished speaking, Gu Beixue started to cry. Huo Sinian hugged her, gently stroking her head and comforting her, "Nianyu, it's okay, don't cry. You still have me, and I'll help you."
With Huo Sinian's constant reassurance, Gu Beixue gradually calmed down.
Huo Sinian watched as Gu Beixue's makeup ran from her tears, and surprisingly, he chuckled. Gu Beixue, understanding the situation, quickly dashed into the bathroom.
When she emerged, she asked nonchalantly, "Weren't you abroad? How come you're here now?"
Huo Sinian gave a slight smile and replied, "I just got back. You sent a text to my brother, right? He couldn't make it, so he asked me to come instead."
Gu Beixue found it hard to believe it was just a coincidence. Seeing Huo Sinian after all these years, he seemed more mature and composed, with a stronger presence.
"So, when do you plan to leave?" she asked.
Huo Sinian thought for a moment before responding, "We'll see. Maybe I won't leave at all."
He looked at her intently, seemingly waiting for her response, but Gu Beixue said nothing. She knew he still had feelings for her, but she had too much on her plate to think about that now.
Seeing her silence, Huo Sinian asked, "Do you want me to stay, or do you want me to go?"
"That's your decision. I don't need to make it for you," she replied.
Huo Sinian gently grasped her shoulders and said earnestly, "Just say the word, and I'll stay for you."
Gu Beixue shrugged off his hands and smiled, "Stop it. I'm tired. You should go back to your room."
Huo Sinian didn't linger any longer and went to the room next door.
After he left, Gu Beixue went to the bathroom, turned on the shower, and stood under it, perhaps trying to clear her mind.
The next morning, she woke up with a terrible headache, probably from drinking too much the night before. Realizing she had unresolved matters, she quickly got up.
When Gu Beixue went to Huo Sinian's room and knocked, there was no answer. She picked up her phone and called him.
"Hello, where are you?"
"In the courtyard downstairs. What's up?"
"Nothing, wait for me. I'll be right down."
Gu Beixue came downstairs and saw Huo Sinian working out, shirtless in the early morning, showcasing his strong arms. She was genuinely surprised.
The inn they were staying at was the owner's own house, complete with a yard and some exercise equipment.
"Huo Sinian, you've really changed a lot. You used to look so frail, and now you've become so strong."
Hearing Gu Beixue praise him, he replied proudly, "Of course! After spending so many years abroad, the one thing I've consistently stuck with is working out. You used to say I was fragile and needed your protection. Now it's my turn to protect you."
With that, Huo Sinian flexed his muscles in front of Gu Beixue, looking quite pleased with himself. Gu Beixue, however, put on a mock-disgusted face and let out a playful sigh.
