C16 Prepare to See His Daughter!

However, Huo Sinian wanted to take this opportunity to spend more time with Gu Beixue, hoping maybe some sparks would fly.

Huo Sinian approached Gu Beixue with a mischievous grin. "Nianyu, since you're out and about, why don't we go somewhere else for a bit of fun?"

Gu Beixue rolled her eyes at him, clearly unimpressed. "I'm not going. I'm heading back today. If you want to have fun, you can stay here by yourself."

Seeing her firm stance, Huo Sinian had no choice but to relent. Soon, they were on their way to the airport. Gu Beixue remained silent throughout the journey, while Huo Sinian chatted non-stop, creating a stark contrast between them.

Gu Beixue was eager to get home, her mind set on seeing her daughter, Bai Qing'er, as soon as she returned.

After a few hours on the plane, they finally landed in the suburbs of Jingcheng. Waiting to pick them up was Huo Changzhi. As soon as he saw Gu Beixue, he waved and smiled, "Hey, Ms. Nianyu, how did everything go? Was it smooth sailing?"

She shook her head, and he didn't press further.

Meanwhile, Huo Sinian grumbled at his brother, "You little rascal, you act like you own the place. You've never asked me how things went!"

"Big brother, you're not a kid anymore. Stop trying to get all the attention."

With that, Huo Changzhi tagged along with Gu Beixue, ignoring Huo Sinian completely.

Originally, Gu Beixue planned to head back to her place, but Huo Changzhi mentioned that Huo Bingxin wanted to see her. With no other choice, she agreed to go to View Manor.

Huo Bingxin was basking in the warm sun in the yard, eyes closed. He only opened them when he heard the car pull up.

Leaning back in his chair, he looked at Gu Beixue standing before him. She greeted him politely, "Mr. Huo, how have you been lately?"

Huo Bingxin chuckled and then said, "Don't worry, these old bones of mine are still holding up."

He slowly stood up and remarked, "I heard things didn't go so well this time."

"Yeah, Lee Jiutian died, and in such a strange way. The timing was just too convenient!"

"It just shows that whoever's behind this knows everything, maybe even watching you all the time."

Gu Beixue had already considered what Huo Bingxin was saying, but she had no evidence.

She calmly said, "Mr. Huo, I hope you can help me find those people."

"Don't worry, I'll let you know as soon as I hear anything. Stay for dinner; I'll have Mrs. Lee make some of your favorites."

With Huo Bingxin's personal invitation, Gu Beixue couldn't refuse and agreed to stay.

At the dinner table, Huo Bingxin watched his two sons trying to impress Gu Beixue. Being an old hand at this, he knew exactly what was going on. Both his sons liked her, but he just shook his head and focused on his meal.

After dinner, Gu Beixue left, and both sons offered to see her out, but she declined.

Every time Gu Beixue visited View Manor, she couldn't help but glance at her former home, even though she tried not to. She thought about how, once she had the means, she would buy it back. It held a lot of painful memories, but it was still the place she had lived for over twenty years.

Back home, she picked up the Barbie doll on the table, feeling both excited and conflicted. She wondered if her daughter, Bai Qing'er, would want to see her, or if she knew about her time in prison. Gu Beixue feared that Bai Qing'er might not accept her.

But she couldn't just give up on her longing. After finally getting Bai Luo to agree, Gu Beixue picked up her phone.

Gu Beixue sent Bai Luo a text message: "I want to see my daughter on Saturday morning."

In his office, Bai Luo was smoking, trying to look cool, when his phone screen lit up. After reading the message, he remained expressionless, leaving his thoughts a mystery. He simply replied, "Okay."

Just one word, clear and straightforward. Bai Luo was dealing with a lot—work issues, Gu Beixue's insistence on seeing their daughter, Jee Huiru constantly pressuring him to come home, and Zhou Muqing avoiding him altogether.

Bai Luo dialed Zhou Muqing's number again, unwilling to let go now that she was with another man.

"Muqing, can we meet up?" he asked, his tone almost pleading.

"This isn't right," Zhou Muqing replied firmly. "You have a wife, and I have a fiancé. It's better if we don't see each other."

"Muqing, just say the word, and I'll divorce her. Nothing can stop us now."

"Bai Luo, we've moved on. Can't we just let it go?"

The more Zhou Muqing rejected him, the more determined Bai Luo became. He couldn't bear the thought of anyone else having her.

"Muqing, I won't let anyone else have you," he said fiercely before hanging up. On the other end, Zhou Muqing smiled, seemingly satisfied with the outcome.

The night passed, and it was only Thursday. Gu Beixue woke up feeling sore all over, realizing she had fallen asleep hugging a Barbie doll. Since she was back and hadn't been to the office in days, she decided to visit the chairman's office.

"You're back," the chairman said in a raspy voice.

"Yes, how's your health?" Gu Beixue asked with genuine concern. She was grateful to the chairman; without him, she wasn't sure where she'd be.

"Don't worry, it's common for older folks to be like this. I know a bit about your situation, so if you need any help, just let me know."

The chairman treated Gu Beixue like his own daughter and even considered passing his position on to her. However, Gu Beixue didn't plan on troubling him with this; it wasn't something she wanted many people to know about.

"No need, I can handle it myself for now. If it becomes too much, I'll come to you."

Afterward, Gu Beixue went to her office, but she couldn't focus on work. Her mind was preoccupied with thoughts about her daughter.

Meanwhile, at kindergarten, Bai Qing'er wasn't thinking about any of this. She didn't know her mom had been in prison; she just wanted to see her mom as soon as possible. Ever since Bai Luo mentioned it, whenever someone called her name, she would rush over, hoping it was her mom coming to see her. But she still hadn't seen her, which left her a bit disappointed.
