C18 They Arrived at the Bai Family

At that moment, Beixue laughed like a child, realizing that all her previous worries were unfounded. She had feared Qing'er might look down on her. Then, Beixue hailed a cab and headed back.

In the car, Bai Luo asked casually, "Qing'er, did you have fun today?"

Qing'er beamed with satisfaction and replied, "I had a great time. We went on all the rides at the amusement park. You never have time to play with me."

Hearing his daughter's words, Bai Luo felt a pang of guilt. He had never taken her to the park himself, always leaving her with his parents and only visiting occasionally.

"Well, in that case, I'll make sure she spends more time with you from now on."

Bai Luo wasn't sure why he said that, perhaps out of guilt for not being there for Qing'er. As long as she was happy, he was willing to do anything.

After they got home, Bai Luo dropped Qing'er off and left. But when her grandparents saw Qing'er's new clothes, they were a bit puzzled.

They knew Bai Luo had never bought clothes for Qing'er, usually just toys.

Her grandmother asked curiously, "Qing'er, did your dad buy you these clothes?"

Qing'er smiled brightly and said, "Grandma, take a guess."

Hearing this, her grandparents knew it wasn't Bai Luo who bought them. Otherwise, Qing'er wouldn't have responded that way.

"Could it be Aunt Huiru?"

They thought maybe Jee Huiru had bought them since she was now part of the family and it would make sense for her to please Qing'er with a few gifts.

"Nope, guess again," Qing'er replied confidently.

Her grandparents were stumped. Who else could it be?

"Grandma and Grandpa can't guess. Tell us quickly."

"It was Mom. She took me to the amusement park today," Qing'er said happily.

Her grandparents were taken aback, never expecting it to be Beixue.

What intrigued them even more was that Bai Luo agreed to let Bai Qing'er meet with Gu Beixue. Seeing Bai Qing'er so happy made them happy too.

After Bai Qing'er went back to her room, the grandparents started discussing. Her grandmother said calmly, "Should we invite that girl over to our house?"

Her grandfather seemed to be pondering something, unsure of how to respond. They both shared a concern: what if Gu Beixue blamed their family? If she came over and caused a scene, what would they do?

Although the events of the past couldn't be directly blamed on their family, they were somewhat involved. Gu Beixue might think their family ruined hers. However, with Bai Qing'er now in the picture, they felt it was important to clear things up for her to have a happy family.

After much consideration, he decided to meet Gu Beixue. He picked up his phone and made a call. Even though he no longer managed the family business, he had built it from the ground up, and many loyal people still followed him.

"Hello, this is Bai Tiehxin," he said with authority.

Mooh Cheng, upon receiving the call, responded politely, "Director Bai, what can I do for you?"

"Give me Gu Beixue's phone number."

Mooh Cheng hesitated, "Director Bai, well, it's just that..."

A stern voice interrupted, "What do you mean 'just that'? Are you saying my influence doesn't matter anymore?"

Mooh Cheng, caught in a bind, couldn't afford to offend Bai Tiehxin, the father of the current Director Bai. Reluctantly, he provided the phone number.

Meanwhile, when Gu Beixue returned home and opened her bag, she smacked her forehead. "How could I be so forgetful? I left the Barbie doll for Qing'er. Who knows when I'll see her next?"

Though Gu Beixue thought this way, reality often had other plans. If she knew Bai Luo had agreed to their future meetings, she would be overjoyed.

During the day, Gu Beixue had so much fun that she fell asleep with a smile on her face. In the days that followed, whenever Gu Beixue felt upset, she would think of her daughter, and her worries would vanish.

One day, Gu Beixue's phone rang unexpectedly. It was an unfamiliar number, but she decided to answer it.

"Hello, Miss Gu."

As soon as she heard the voice, Gu Beixue knew who it was and felt a sense of respect.

"Hello, Mr. Bai."

Gu Beixue understood that none of this was Bai Tiehxin's fault, so she didn't hold any grudges against him.

"Miss, here's the thing. Ever since you took Qing'er out to play last time, she's been asking to see you every day. We didn't know what to do, so we called you. Do you have time to come over and see her?"

Hearing that Bai Qing'er missed her, Gu Beixue was thrilled. "Yes, yes, yes," she replied eagerly. Realizing her excitement, she calmed down and added, "I'll come by after work."

"Great, we'll be waiting for you."

With that, the call ended. Gu Beixue felt a pang in her heart at the thought of facing them again. If it weren't for Bai Qing'er, she wouldn't want to see the Bai family.

Later, Gu Beixue picked up a few things to bring along. It wouldn't feel right to show up empty-handed.

Before long, she arrived at the villa. As she stood there, she couldn't help but feel a bit envious, thinking about how her parents were gone while Bai Luo's parents were living comfortably here.

Just then, Bai Qing'er came running out. She had been watching from the window and dashed down as soon as she saw Gu Beixue.

"Mommy, Mommy," Bai Qing'er exclaimed, hugging Gu Beixue's leg tightly.

Gu Beixue responded quickly, "Yes, sweetie!" It was the first time she answered Bai Qing'er like that. Picking her up, she decided to focus on her daughter, letting go of everything else.

With that, he carried Qing'er inside. When the elderly couple saw Gu Beixue, whom they hadn't seen in years, a wave of sympathy washed over them.

Gu Beixue greeted them politely, "Mr. Bai, Mrs. Liu, how have you been all these years?"

Mrs. Liu was so moved she could hardly speak. "Good, good, and you?"

Gu Beixue didn't answer directly, just smiled faintly. How could she be doing well? Everyone around her had left, and she couldn't even see her daughter often.

Bai Tiehxin nudged his wife with his elbow, signaling her to avoid such sensitive topics. How could they even ask about that?
