C19 He Was Touched by Jee Huiru!

Bai Tiehxin quickly changed the subject, saying, "Come on, don't just stand there. Have a seat."

Gu Beixue didn't hesitate, placing her things down and pulling a Barbie doll out of her bag.

"Wow, I love it!" Bai Qing'er exclaimed, her expression a bit over-the-top, leaving one to wonder if she was genuinely that excited or just putting on a show. Either way, Gu Beixue was delighted to hear it, holding Bai Qing'er close, a sight that didn't go unnoticed by the elders.

Aunt Liu headed to the kitchen to start cooking, while Bai Tiehxin seized the opportunity to chat with Gu Beixue.

"Miss Gu—oh, sorry, I'm so used to calling you that, it's hard to change," Bai Tiehxin said, a bit embarrassed.

Gu Beixue, not wanting to seem aloof in front of Bai Qing'er, forced a small smile and replied, "It's fine, call me whatever you like!"

"Ha ha ha, then I'll take advantage of my age just this once. Miss Gu, where are you working now? If you need any help, just let me know," Bai Tiehxin offered sincerely.

"No need, I'm doing well at Lee's Group," Gu Beixue replied.

"Lee's Group? I know your chairman a bit. She's over sixty and still hasn't retired," Bai Tiehxin remarked.

Gu Beixue just nodded, not wanting to engage further. Sensing her reluctance, Bai Tiehxin didn't press the matter.

Bai Qing'er then took Gu Beixue to her room. It was Gu Beixue's first time seeing her daughter's room, and her eyes immediately fell on a drawing on the desk. She picked it up slowly, seeing the three figures labeled "Mom, Dad, and Me."

Choking up, Gu Beixue asked, "Qing'er, did you draw this?"

"Yeah, I hope Mom and Dad can be together, and we can all go on a trip, holding hands and watching the sunset," Bai Qing'er replied.

Gu Beixue held back her tears, not wanting to cry in front of Qing'er and make her feel even more guilty. She felt like she owed Qing'er more and more.

A good mother should be there to watch her child grow up, that's the happiest thing, Gu Beixue thought to herself. I missed out before, but from now on, I will be there for you.

This thought fueled Gu Beixue's determination. She was resolved to uncover the truth and reclaim everything that was rightfully hers.

Just then, the door opened, and Qing'er's grandmother walked in with a smile, saying, "Miss Gu, let's have dinner!"

"No, thank you. I have things to do at home," Gu Beixue replied firmly.

The idea of having dinner with the parents of her adversary was unthinkable to her.

However, Qing'er looked at Gu Beixue with a pitiful expression and pleaded, "Mom, please stay and have dinner with me!"

Hearing Qing'er's words nearly broke Gu Beixue's heart. Seeing her daughter begging her to stay for dinner left her with no room to refuse, so she agreed to stay, wanting to spend more time with Qing'er.

Throughout the meal, Gu Beixue barely ate, focusing instead on serving Qing'er food and watching her eat happily, which in turn made Gu Beixue happy.

But then, the sound of the doorbell interrupted the warm scene.

The grandparents were puzzled. Who could it be at this hour? Usually, no one visited except Bai Luo, and he had a key, so he wouldn't need to ring the bell.

With some curiosity, Aunt Liu opened the door and was surprised to see Jee Huiru, her daughter-in-law, standing there. She greeted her with a smile.

Jee Huiru sweetly asked, "Mom, have you had dinner?"

"We're eating now. Have you eaten? Come in and join us."

As Jee Huiru entered, she was about to speak but then noticed a familiar figure chatting and laughing with Qing'er.

Jee Huiru approached from behind, and that annoying voice of hers rang out once more.

"Nianyu, is that really you?"

Gu Beixue froze, hoping she had misheard and not daring to turn around. But when Jee Huiru appeared in front of her, it was clear she hadn't imagined it. Jee Huiru always put on a pitiful act, but when she saw Gu Beixue, she was overly enthusiastic. The elders had no idea that the two were like oil and water.

With so many people around, Gu Beixue decided to be polite and smiled, saying, "Yes, it's me, Gu Beixue."

However, Bai Tiehxin, listening to their conversation, sensed something was off. It made sense, though, since Jee Huiru had married Bai Luo, and anyone would feel a bit uneasy about it.

Jee Huiru had originally come looking for Bai Luo, who hadn't been home for a while. She figured he would be here, but instead, she ran into Gu Beixue.

Bai Tiehxin quickly said, "Everyone, sit down and chat. Honey, get Huiru a set of utensils."

"Dad, Mom, there's no need. I've already eaten. I came to find Bai Luo, and since he's not here, I'll head back," Jee Huiru said with a smile, showing no sign of anger.

Gu Beixue found her utterly repulsive. Then Jee Huiru turned to her and said, "Nianyu, let's have dinner together next time and catch up."

The elders also felt that their dislike for Jee Huiru stemmed from her scheming nature, while Gu Beixue was straightforward and always spoke her mind.

Gu Beixue ignored her, focusing instead on watching Bai Qing'er eat. Jee Huiru soon left.

As she drove away, Jee Huiru thought bitterly to herself, "Gu Beixue, if you think having Qing'er means you can push me out, you're mistaken. We'll see about that. I'll make sure you regret it."

Jee Huiru felt it was time to take action; otherwise, she feared she might lose her position as the wife of the Bai family's chairman. Gu Beixue wasn't worried about that because she believed that with Bai Luo around, Huiru wouldn't dare do anything to Qing'er.

After spending some time there, Gu Beixue was delighted when Qing'er gifted her a painting as she was leaving. Unbeknownst to her, the moment she stepped out the door, someone began following her. This time, Huiru had given strict orders for 24-hour surveillance, warning that failure to comply would mean losing their job with the Bai family.

Huiru immediately called Bai Luo. "Hey, darling, it's been so long since you last visited me. I just went to your parents' house and saw Nianyu there," she said softly, her voice evoking a protective instinct.

"You went to my parents' place? Didn't I tell you before that I'd take you there myself? I asked you not to go alone."
