C3 Their Enemies Met

Although Gu Beixue was confined in the detention center, she was still well-informed about the major events in the city, like the drama of a mistress taking over. She had seen it all since she was young.

"Gu Beixue! You..." Mrs. Lin couldn't help but curse. She had worked tirelessly for everything she had today, only for Gu Beixue to dismiss it as worthless. It was the first time she had been so deeply insulted.

The more she thought about it, the angrier she got, and Mrs. Lin prepared to fight Gu Beixue.

Just as Mrs. Lin raised her hand, Gu Beixue caught it with precision. "Mrs. Lin, resorting to violence is for the common folk. Don't disgrace your noble status."

Though Gu Beixue's tone was polite, her grip tightened.

Mrs. Lin winced in pain and threatened, "Let go of me, Gu Beixue. If you anger me, I'll make sure you can't stay in this city for a day! Don't forget, I have status and power, while you have nothing. You can't win against me!"

Gu Beixue leaned in close to Mrs. Lin's ear and whispered, "But right now, you're at my mercy. The more you threaten me, the less inclined I am to let go."

The naive Gu Beixue of the past was long gone. The current Gu Beixue was one to repay any wrong done to her.

"Nianyu! Stop it!" A familiar voice called out, finally making Gu Beixue release her grip. Only a few people knew her childhood nickname, and this person was one of them.

The owner of the voice, dressed in striking red, seemed to have been watching from the shadows for a while. Seeing the tension escalate, she stepped in like a peacemaker.

"Miss Jee..." Mrs. Lin looked gratefully at the woman in red, her face full of flattery.

"You should leave," Miss Jee replied coolly.

Mrs. Lin was stunned. "But I just got here. Miss Jee, have you forgotten? I'm your friend, Mrs. Yang Xue, from Lin's Group."

"Leave immediately," Miss Jee's tone was non-negotiable.

Yang Xue, having gained nothing and feeling slighted, gritted her teeth, shot a fierce glare at Gu Beixue, and left in defeat.

"Nianyu, you're finally back!" Miss Jee's voice was gentle, her eyes glistening with what seemed like tears, making one think she was a close relative of Beixue.

Her heart ached uncontrollably. Beixue thought she had become as tough as stone, but seeing that innocent face brought back painful memories, stirring up her resentment and grievances.

Jee Huiru—this was the woman who had ruined everything for Beixue.

Silently encouraging herself, Beixue thought, "Why worry about Jee Huiru? I've survived five years in prison. This is my first battle to turn things around, and I won't back down!"

Quickly regaining her composure, Beixue shifted her gaze to the captivating man behind Huiru. It was him, Bai Luo. Yes, the charming man from years ago. Time had only made him more attractive, with a mature allure that even stirred something in Beixue, despite her deep-seated hatred for him.

Seeing Bai Luo arrive, Huiru smiled softly and confidently took his arm, as if to declare to Beixue, "This is my man!"

In the past, such a scene would have made Beixue turn away in anger. But not this time. Her heart had already died once, and she had been reborn. Facing these two, they were merely people from another world to her.

"Hello, you two. I'm here for a visit today," Beixue said with a smile, her eyes warm, though her heart churned with hatred.

"Nianyu, it's been so long. I never thought I'd see you again. I've really missed you," Huiru said in a sweet voice, her face full of sincerity, making her seem like a woman without a hidden agenda.

Beixue had experienced this act before. It was her downfall back then, leading to the ruin of the Gu family.

"Heh, I just got out, and it's a good thing it was only five years. Otherwise, you two would've found a way to get rid of me, right?" Gu Beixue spoke with no hint of politeness; she had nothing nice to say about these two.

"Nianyu, it's all my fault. Everything happened because of my family. I was too impulsive. Can you forgive me? I've been repenting every day," Jee Huiru's voice quivered with what seemed like genuine emotion.

But Gu Beixue caught a glint of satisfaction in her eyes, as if to say, "Heh, Gu Beixue, Bai Luo loves me. To him, you were just a toy! You brought this on yourself; he only used you as a tool."

Gu Beixue glared at Jee Huiru, her attempt to garner sympathy made her want to vomit. She had been deceived by this woman’s innocent facade, which hid a heart of malice.

"Jee Huiru, your acting skills got you what you wanted. Aren't you tired of pretending all these years? I thought you might have changed, but you're just the same as ever," Gu Beixue mocked.

Jee Huiru's eyes glimmered with a hidden smile, her lips curling in disdain as she blinked innocently, her breath quickening. "Nianyu, how can you say that about me?"

Gu Beixue laughed coldly, her gaze fixed on Jee Huiru, who was affectionately holding Bai Luo's arm. She used to be the one holding that arm, but none of that mattered anymore.

Bai Luo remained silent throughout the exchange between Gu Beixue and Jee Huiru, as was his usual way.

"I came here just to see your hypocritical face. I didn't expect it to still be so repulsive. If I had known, I would've stayed away," Gu Beixue said bluntly.

Jee Huiru's words didn't provoke a rebuttal from Gu Beixue. Instead, Huiru looked pitiful, stepping forward to take Beixue's hand. "Nianyu, it's rare for you to come out and visit. You must have something important to discuss. Why don't you stay for dinner so we can talk?"

The suggestion nearly made Beixue burst into laughter. She could never forget the night before her imprisonment when Huiru sought her out to deliver those scathing remarks, words that seemed beyond human decency.

Coldly shaking off Huiru's hand, Beixue looked at her with disdain. Those delicate, soft hands had once deceived her. If only she had seen through Huiru's corrupt soul earlier, she wouldn't have been fooled by the angelic facade hiding a devil, leading to her current downfall.

"Don't touch me. You make me sick," Beixue said with utter disgust.

Huiru's reaction seemed rehearsed. She quickly withdrew, casting a pitiful glance at Bai Luo, her eyes welling with tears that begged for sympathy.

Beixue was repulsed, yet a mischievous urge to toy with Huiru arose. She wanted to see just how far Huiru's performance would go.

"Miss Jee, I never imagined that during my years in prison, you'd play such a big game. Your family's small business managed to rally a bunch of major corporations to crush the Gu family, leaving our shares completely divided. Quite the appetite you have," Beixue said, leaning in close to Huiru's fair face, suppressing her revulsion.
