C18 Disappointment
Yang Wanwan composed herself before leaving the restroom and ran into her colleague, Hsu Ya, whom she had lunch with earlier.
"Wanwan, are you okay? You look so pale," Hsu Ya asked, concerned about her friend's ashen face.
"Ya, I'm fine. I just need a little rest," Wanwan assured her, signaling that she was alright, and trudged away.
Back in her office, Wanwan sat at her desk.
"Wanwan, isn't this blueprint supposed to be reviewed by the CEO?" The manager asked as he noticed the document lacked the CEO's signature or any notes.
"When I went, the CEO wasn't there," Wanwan fibbed, not wanting to admit the truth about avoiding the man.
"But when I called his assistant, he said the CEO was in. How could that be..." The manager seemed puzzled.
"Hey, manager, I'll go. Wanwan doesn't look too well," Soong Yingying chimed in, seizing the chance to show concern for a colleague while also getting an opportunity to see the CEO. It was a win-win situation for her.
"Alright, Yingying, you take it," the manager decided. Soong Yingying, like a triumphant rooster, shot Wanwan a smug smile, her eyes filled with an indescribable disdain.
"Hmph, even fate is on my side," Soong Yingying thought as she realized the CEO was out when Yang Wanwan went to deliver the documents. Now, Yang Wanwan was aware that Soong Yingying had never really liked her. But honestly, she just didn't have the energy to deal with it right now.
"Yes, Manager." Soong Yingying flashed a bright smile, picked up the blueprints and folder, and left her seat, heading to the CEO's office with a graceful stride.
"Wanwan, are you okay? You don't seem quite yourself," a concerned colleague at the next desk asked Yang Wanwan.
"Wanwan?" The colleague called again, but there was no response.
"Huh...?" Yang Wanwan replied, a bit dazed, clearly not registering what was being said.
"You don't seem well. Are you alright?" The colleague repeated.
"I'm fine, just a bit tired from work," Yang Wanwan answered weakly, feeling as wilted as a drooping plant.
"Yeah, in a big company like this, there's always a mountain of work. Sometimes we have to stay late every night..." the colleague continued to complain.
The rest of the conversation faded into the background for Yang Wanwan. Her mind was hazy, replaying the man's actions from a few days ago and the recent sounds in the office, leaving her feeling dizzy.
Why do men change so much? Just a few days ago, we were getting along like friends, but now it's like we're worse than strangers. A hint of bitterness welled up inside, accumulating like a sponge soaking up water, ready to overflow.
In the CEO's office.
Soong Yingying knocked on the door, and after hearing the CEO's permission, she entered with an urgency that was hard to describe.
As soon as Soong Yingying stepped into the office, she saw the man at work. He was dressed in a deep black suit, with a few buttons casually undone near the collar, revealing an enticing Adam's apple. He held a document in his hand, which only highlighted his long fingers. His amber eyes were focused intently on the papers, exuding an indescribable charm.
"Sir, these are the interior design plans for Blue Domain, and there's also a document that needs your approval," Soong Yingying said as she approached the desk, holding a blue folder.
"Just leave it there," Yeh Beijin said coolly, his eyes fixed on the computer screen, not even sparing her a glance.
Obediently, Soong Yingying carefully placed the documents on the desk, casting a longing glance at the figure she had always admired.
"Didn't you say it would be delivered before 3 o'clock?" Yeh Beijin asked, turning his attention to Soong Yingying after finishing his current task. There was a hint of doubt in his voice. The assistant had reported at 2:40 that it would be delivered by 3, but now it was well past 3:30. The efficiency was disappointingly low.
“It was supposed to be Wanwan delivering the documents, but she said you weren't around when she tried. She didn't look well, so I thought I'd help by bringing them up. If they're late, please don't blame Wanwan. She seemed a bit under the weather...”
With a warm, considerate smile, Soong Yingying hoped her thoughtful words would catch the man's attention. She didn't expect his first question to be, “When did she try to deliver them?”
The moment he finished speaking, Yingying's smile froze.
“Sir, are you asking...” Yingying hesitated, disbelief in her eyes.
Why would he ask about Wanwan? Could it be... No, it couldn't be. In the elevator, Wanwan's expression seemed off, and he ignored her, right? How does he even know her name? Maybe he just wants to know if Wanwan lied, so he can reprimand her. Yingying tried to reassure herself, but something still felt off.
“When did Wanwan deliver the documents?” Beijin patiently repeated.
“Around 2:45, I think,” Yingying replied.
2:45... Wasn't that when I was talking to Ann Jinse? Did she overhear our conversation? How much did she hear?
"Darn it, why didn't the secretary inform him?" Beijin was always decisive. In the past, he would have cut through the chaos without hesitation. But now, he felt a twinge of regret, wishing he hadn't spoken those harsh, hurtful words. He could be cold to any other woman, but with her, he just couldn't bring himself to do it.
Well, Beijin, looks like you're having one of those days.
Yingying carefully observed the CEO's expression. His face was a bit dark, showing signs of impending anger.
Hmph, Wanwan, daring to deceive the CEO, you're in big trouble this time.
"Would you like a cup of coffee, sir?" Yingying asked Beijin softly, her voice gentle and obedient.
"These matters are for the secretary to handle," Beijin replied, dismissing Yingying's offer.
The underlying message was clear: You're not needed here, you can leave.
"Yes, sir." Yingying, feeling utterly helpless, didn't dare defy his orders and had no choice but to leave quietly.
