C6 Disguised
Half an hour later.
Just as Beijin stepped into the old house, Mother Yeh hurried over to greet him.
“Why are you so late? Didn’t you say you wouldn’t be?” she exclaimed, her voice tinged with urgency. “I’ve been singing your praises to everyone.”
Everyone?
Beijin asked, “Do we have guests today?”
“Yes, they’re old friends of mine,” Mother Yeh replied, her eyes darting away as she turned toward the dining room. “I waited here specifically to talk to you about something.”
Her reaction made Beijin realize there was more to this than she was letting on.
“What’s going on?”
“When you go in, be polite to the couple at the table,” Mother Yeh whispered. “Just answer their questions honestly and try to be more approachable.”
Beijin sensed something was off, but couldn’t quite put his finger on it.
It wasn’t until he saw the couple that he understood.
The woman was the spitting image of Ann Jinse.
Beijin stopped in his tracks, hesitating at the doorway.
Seeing this, Mother Yeh’s heart skipped a beat.
“Why aren’t you going in?”
“These are Ann Jinse’s parents,” Beijin said, looking at Mother Yeh, his calm voice hiding a storm beneath. “I remember telling you, I won’t accept someone who might have divided loyalties in the future.”
Pausing for a moment, Beijin continued, "I can't believe something so outrageous happened to me."
Unable to contain his anger, he turned and walked away, with his mother following closely behind.
"Beijin, you stop right there!" At the front door, she finally caught up to him. "Do you even see me as your mother anymore? You just left me there to deal with this mess on my own. How am I supposed to handle it?"
"You set it up, so naturally, it's your responsibility to clean it up." Beijin slowly closed the car door and turned to face her. "I hope this doesn't happen again."
"Before you went back to the old house, were you with Wanwan?" His mother's fingers trembled with anger. "There are plenty of women out there. Why do you have to fall for her daughter?!"
How did she know about this?
Could those two thugs have been her doing as well?
"Did you have those dozen companies reject Wanwan?" Beijin asked in a low voice. "Don't deny it. It's quite the coincidence that we have shares in all of them."
His mother's expression shifted for a moment before she regained her composure. "So what if I did? Her mother is to blame!"
Mentioning Wanwan's mother made her face contort with rage. "Just thinking about sharing the same sky with that woman makes it hard to breathe. She must treasure her daughter, right? I'll make sure she disappears from this city."
"I will protect her," Beijin said firmly. "No matter who tries to hurt her, I'll keep her safe."
"You ungrateful child!" Mother Yeh's lips trembled with anger as she raised her hand high.
Beijin threw down these words and turned to leave.
Mother Yeh seemed deeply upset, pressing a hand to her chest to steady her slightly trembling body. "Wanwan, I will never let you get close to my son."
A flash of malice flickered in her eyes but vanished as quickly as it appeared. After adjusting her attire, she was once again the picture of elegance and grace.
Beijin felt a wave of frustration. The thought of that fresh, lovely face only intensified his feelings. Wanwan, why do you have to be her daughter?
Meanwhile, under the cover of night at the Yang household, Wanwan lay in bed, unable to sleep. A figure kept appearing in her mind—those amber eyes, bright like polished stones.
Her mind replayed scenes of the man rescuing her from danger and visiting her home, his graceful posture and handsome features etched in her memory.
"Remember, my name is Beijin." His words echoed like a spell, lingering in her ears, impossible to shake off.
A cool breeze drifted in from the window, but it couldn't quite chase away the heat on her face.
The next day.
"Wanwan, be careful on your way to work," her mother said, a hint of worry in her eyes.
"I know, Mom. I'll be careful."
Wanwan stepped out of her small alley, turning onto another street, walking along a rundown path. This alley was usually deserted, and at this hour, it was especially quiet.
Suddenly, Wanwan felt a pang of unease. Maybe it was a woman's intuition, but she realized someone had been following her. Why are they following me? she thought, her heart racing. Her steps became hurried and uneven. Soon, she heard footsteps growing closer behind her, and she ran for her life.
Out of nowhere, she felt a sharp blow to the back of her head, and everything went black.
At Beirong Group, in the Human Resources Department, the team was in the middle of interviewing new candidates when the dark red door swung open. A pair of well-proportioned, long fingers pushed it aside, and a tall figure stepped into view. His hazel eyes were like high-quality amber, and his strikingly deep features resembled a masterpiece sculpted by the heavens.
Dressed in a charcoal gray suit, he truly made the most of his height, appearing tall and commanding. The sleeves were slightly rolled up, revealing a glimpse of his arm with its smooth muscle lines, hinting at a wild strength ready to be unleashed.
"Good morning, sir!"
"Good morning, sir!"
...
"Return to your posts and continue working," came the man's cool, steady voice.
His eyes held an undeniable authority as he strode toward the chair, finally sitting down with the presence of a king. The staff, hearing their boss's words, wiped imaginary sweat from their foreheads, remaining silent. They were told to focus on their tasks and not worry about the big boss, but with him seated there, exuding such a powerful aura, who could ignore him?
The woman sitting for the interview was even more taken aback, staring blankly at the man before her. How could there be such a handsome man in the world? With a face so striking and eyes so deep, he was more captivating than any male celebrity she had ever seen. Soong Yingying thought to herself, a determined glint flashing in her eyes.
