C15 Chapter 15

Su Mengxin clenched her teeth and dialed Loong Yufan’s number.

“Beep, beep, beep.” After a few rings, Yufan picked up.

She heard his low voice. “Hello. Who’s this?”

Trying to sound casual, she said, “Loong Yufan, it’s me—Su Mengxin.” But the hand gripping her water glass gave her away, her knuckles whitening from the pressure.

Yufan was secretly pleased, but he kept it under control and replied evenly, “Hi. What is it? If I remember right, my wallet isn’t in your hands this time.” For some reason, he just wanted to mess with her. Hearing her flustered always put him in a great mood.

Mengxin gave an awkward laugh and explained, “Last time was an accident. I’m sorry—I was afraid you wouldn’t help me. And I can’t afford the penalty fee, so I didn’t have a choice. I really am sorry.”

Listening to her, Yufan fought back a laugh, lowering his head. He had no intention of letting his staff see him grinning. “Alright. I’ll accept that explanation. So what do you need now?”

Carefully forcing a light tone, Mengxin said, “I want to ask you for a favor. Can you help me set up another meeting with Director Loong? This interview is really important. If I can’t get it, the penalty is more than I can pay. It’s basically tied to my future.”

Yufan asked, amused, “And why do you think I’d help you? What’s in it for me? I’m a businessman—if there’s no benefit, why would I do it?”

Even though she’d expected him to say that, Mengxin’s heart still sank. “Then what kind of benefit do you want? As long as it’s something I can afford and it doesn’t cross any lines.”

Yufan smiled to himself. She hadn’t even heard his terms yet and she was already negotiating. “Fine. I’ll agree—but there’s a price. You have to grant me one request. Call it a wish. Can you do that?”

Mengxin clenched her teeth. “Okay, I agree—but only if it’s something that doesn’t go against my morals.” As soon as she said it, she heard Yufan give a cold snort on the other end. Her heart jolted, afraid he’d refuse.

Loong Yufan snorted. “Relax. I wasn’t planning to have you do anything awful. What I’m asking you to do is absolutely not immoral.”

After he hung up, Loong Yufan stared at the phone in his hand and thought, She really is a little dummy—cute as a kitten. She’s probably all bristled up right now. The image of her getting worked up tugged a faint smile onto his lips.

The assistant beside him froze, staring. Sure enough, the CEO looked great when he smiled. The assistant clutched at his own racing heart and kept gawking at his boss.

Sensing the rosy, starry-eyed vibe at his side, Loong Yufan wiped the smile off his face, cleared his throat, and said, “As my assistant, don’t mix personal feelings into work. Go make me a cup of coffee.”

As if. He, Loong Yufan, wasn’t interested in some woman who was only a pretty face. What he wanted was substance. Yeah—substance.

Not long after, Loong Yufan called Su Mengxin. “Hey. I got it set up for you. Same suite as last time. Director Loong is a private man—he doesn’t just meet with anyone who asks.”

Su Mengxin grumbled to herself. Do we really have to go back there? But if he’d already said it like that, refusing didn’t seem like an option. Still, going made her nervous—what if something like last time happened again? She chose her words carefully. “Could we change the location? If it’s that same suite again… isn’t that kind of a bad idea?”

Loong Yufan chuckled. “Miss Su, do you really think Director Loong would switch venues just for you? And I shouldn’t have to remind you—you blew the last meeting. This time, I finally managed to talk him into it. Aren’t you going to take the chance?”

Su Mengxin shook her head helplessly. “Fine. I’ll go. But I really hope what happened last time doesn’t happen again. Even if Director Loong is powerful, it’d be better if that never happened again.”

Loong Yufan smiled. “Such a feisty little wildcat. I’m getting more and more interested in you. Fine—I promise what happened last time won’t happen again.”

Su Mengxin thought for a moment and said, “No. I’m still not comfortable with this. How about this—I’ll set your number as a speed dial. If anything happens, I’ll call you, and you have to come save me right away. You’ve got the same last name, and you work at Director Loong’s company. It shouldn’t be that hard to swoop in and steal a woman from him, right?”

Loong Yufan held back a laugh. “Okay. I’ll save you.”

After confirming the time with Su Mengxin, Loong Yufan finally couldn’t hold it in anymore and burst out laughing. If you happened to pass by the executive office, you’d be shocked to see the famously mysterious, ice-cold Director Loong laughing like a kid, clutching his stomach, completely unbothered by how ridiculous he looked.

After she hung up, Su Mengxin gave it some quick thought and decided that kind of help still wasn’t enough.

She ran through what else she should prepare. The script and everything were already taken care of. This time, she absolutely couldn’t let Yang Jiao see her—who knew what nasty rumors she’d start spreading. She should also pick up some pepper spray. If things got out of hand and she didn’t have time to think, she could spray first. Director Loong would understand, right? For now, all she could do was wait.

When it was time, she’d go—and she’d go early. At the very least, she couldn’t be late. What kind of person makes Director Loong wait? With that in mind, Su Mengxin got ready to head out.
