C23 Police Dog
"I'm ordering you now! Change the temporary base's location! Move it!" Clutching at his last lifeline, Han Feng was not ready to give up without a fight.
"Sorry, Commander, the temporary base's location cannot be changed for a month once set."
"Haha... Haha..." Han Feng laughed, tears swirling in his eyes. He was filled with regret at that moment, cursing himself for knowingly leaping into danger.
As Han Feng felt utterly out of options, he noticed an American soldier stir, drawing his gaze.
Han Feng observed the soldier, who pointed at the HE Grenade pinned to his chest.
Han Feng understood his intention immediately.
He was prepared to go down with the enemy!
"No! There has to be another way! I still have the system. There's still..."
Han Feng's words were cut short as the Third Level zombie stirred once more.
The intervals between its movements had drastically decreased. In just a few seconds, the Third Level zombie seemed ready to strike again. Had it finished its meal? Not quite... it was simply running out of patience...
As the Third Level zombie charged once more, Han Feng's mind froze.
Then, the American soldier made his move.
He tossed aside his machine gun and raised his fists as if to engage in hand-to-hand combat.
The Third Level zombie paused briefly, not giving it much thought, and in an instant, snatched the American soldier.
Han Feng's fists tightened, his teeth clenching with a crackling sound.
The rage building within him slowly chased away the fear.
Han Feng's eyes remained fixed on the American soldier, who, despite the excruciating pain of being torn apart, was slowly pulling the pin from the HE Grenade!
Suddenly, the Third Level zombie seemed to sense the impending doom and attempted to flee with incredible speed. But the detonation of the HE Grenade was undeniably swifter!
"Boom!"
The deafening explosion echoed, and as the smoke cleared seconds later, Han Feng saw the remains of the Third Level zombie.
One arm was obliterated, its shattered remnants dangling grotesquely.
The creature's chest cavity was ripped open, the gaping hole revealing the scene behind it.
One leg still bore the weight of its body, while the other, severely wounded, hung on unbroken.
The Third Level zombie let out a roar, its eyes wide with terror.
It staggered back on its one good leg, desperately trying to retreat.
He's actually scared?
A zombie, devoid of any emotions, has somehow developed a sense of fear?
The Third Level zombie spun around, pushed off with one leg, and took off!
Even with an injured leg slowing it down, it was still alarmingly fast!
In a flash, the Third Level zombie shattered the glass and bolted from the supermarket.
Did it really just flee?
With the Third Level zombie gone, the lesser zombies began to act independently.
"Roar! Roar!" The horde of zombies started closing in.
"Open fire!" Han Feng grabbed the American soldier's machine gun and squeezed the trigger.
Zombies swarmed the first floor, yet they couldn't make their way up.
The second floor had fewer zombies, but it was still more than Han Feng could handle.
"Da Da, Ka!"
Another conscript soldier's gun clicked empty...
With no more ammo coming, the conscripts resorted to the most basic weapon they had—the fire axe—to continue their fight against the undead.
Amidst the gunfire, Han Feng checked his coin count: 439 gold coins.
What good were these few coins? Summon four conscripts? Or one American soldier?
But no matter the reinforcement, it wouldn't solve the current predicament—not with such a dire shortage of bullets.
Even if the summoned soldiers were sharpshooters, with one bullet per zombie, there were far too many to take down.
"Ka Ka, Ka!"
All three conscript soldiers ceased firing...
Now, completely out of ammo and grenades, they drew their fire axes for close combat.
458 gold coins...
"Winter Soldier, drag some shelves over here! Quick!" Han Feng called out urgently to Winter Soldier.
Now, only Han Feng and Wynne were left shooting.
They needed a plan; breaking through was no longer an option. Confronted by zombies, Han Feng had to use everything in his surroundings for defense.
In about ten seconds, Winter Soldier had hauled over four or five shelves.
"Fall back, everyone! Tighten up against the wall! Use the shelves as barricades!" At Han Feng's command, the three conscript soldiers swiftly retreated to their defensive positions.
Two conscripted soldiers hoisted the shelving with their powerful arms, securing it firmly in place.
The direction with the most zombies was now blocked off by the shelves. With a wall on one side and the shelving on the other, the zombies' attack paths were limited to just two sides, and Han Feng and his team were down to two machine guns...
Clearly, defending with just one machine gun was proving to be a struggle.
"Winter Soldier, you and him lift the shelves and seal off this breach!" Han Feng, unable to hold out any longer, had to depend on the Winter Soldier and another conscripted soldier.
No sooner had he spoken than the Winter Soldier bent down to pick up the shelving. The two soldiers secured it in place, and now Han Feng only had to contend with zombies from one direction.
The pressure on Han Feng decreased sharply. He swung his gun around, standing back-to-back with Wynne. Both machine guns roared to life, mowing down zombie after zombie.
The count of gold coins surged.
"Wynne! Use the shelves for defense!" Han Feng, noticing the gold coins had surpassed 500, immediately issued the command.
They propped up the shelves at their feet, bracing them with their bodies. Now, zombies from all sides were cut off.
"Clatter, clatter!" Zombies on the outside hammered and shoved against the shelving. The already flimsy structure began to warp under the dual-sided assault, and the space within the shelving grew increasingly cramped.
"Summon the police dog! Confirm! Quick!" Han Feng yelled in desperation.
Summoning the police dog was Han Feng's sole strategy and his only hope. If the plan with the police dog failed... Han Feng would pay with his life!
"Summoning the police dog costs 500 gold coins. The police dog is being summoned. Summoning will take 30 seconds. Please wait."
"Hold on everyone! Rescue is almost here!" Han Feng ignored whatever the system was saying; his only focus was to persevere!
The shelving creaked and groaned as it twisted, some of the joints even starting to burst apart...
"Tear!" A zombie's arm snaked through a gap in the shelving, latching onto Han Feng's sleeve. With a violent tug, the sleeve ripped away.
"Soon, soon, soon..." Han Feng muttered 'soon' over and over, almost neurotically.
Han Feng's gaze was glued to the summoning progress bar for the police dog, so much so that he didn't even realize his sleeve had been ripped to shreds.
Seven seconds... Six seconds... Five seconds... Three seconds... One second...
"Woof!"
A bark echoed up from the first floor.
"Yes!" Han Feng exclaimed with a surge of excitement.
As Han Feng had anticipated, the police dog had been summoned from the first floor.
"Establish visual link, target the police dog!" Han Feng swiftly requested the radar's visual connection feature.
"Connection established, Commander," Luna's sweet voice chimed in Han Feng's mind.
Upon reopening his eyes, Han Feng was greeted by the sight of a zombie's waist and a thick swarm of legs...
The police dog, with its nimble movements, was adeptly evading the zombies' grasps while steadily making its way toward Han Feng. Han Feng understood the dog's intent; it was trying to check in with him.
Utilizing the radar's remote command feature, Han Feng issued his first command to the police dog.
"Circle the first floor and bark to draw the zombies' attention!"
"Woof! Woof! Woof!" No sooner had Han Feng issued the command than the police dog sprang into action.
Its agile form weaved through the first-floor aisles, its resonant barks filling the vast supermarket.
The majority of zombies on the first floor were lured by the dog's barking, their focus shifting away from the second floor. Several zombies from the second floor were also drawn in, shambling toward the first floor. With no stairs to connect them, these second-floor zombies tumbled down to join the others.
The third floor, however, remained eerily quiet. Despite the earlier barrage of gunfire and now the dog's booming barks, not a single zombie stirred.
Han Feng speculated that perhaps the Third Level zombies had ordered a collective descent from the third floor.
The police dog had become a magnet for the undead, drawing a massive horde to its vicinity.
"Run out slowly and keep barking, try to lead away as many zombies as you can!" Han Feng mentally transmitted his second command to the police dog.
Obediently, the dog began to edge toward the exit, its barks growing fainter as it moved.
The mass of zombies followed suit, their shuffling forms inching toward the exit...
