C24 Can We be Friends?
When Su Rann arrived at the company the following day, Jiang Zhehan was already there waiting for her at the entrance.
"Ms. Rann, after I dropped off Liu Jiatong yesterday, I tried calling you. Why didn't you answer? Did you get the text I sent you last night?"
Young Master Jiang had been trailing behind Su Rann, his gaze brimming with unabashed admiration.
"I saw it," she responded coolly.
"Ms. Rann, how did you manage to kick those guys away with just one move? Your form was incredibly impressive!"
Reflecting on the event, Jiang Zhehan was still in disbelief. He had never before encountered such a striking and gallant woman in real life, resembling the heroic figures he had always envisioned.
As Jiang Zhehan chatted and laughed while following Su Rann into the elevator, Lu Jinhan, who was around the corner, witnessed the entire scene. Inexplicably, seeing Jiang Zhehan draw near to Su Rann, a nameless emotion began to swell and ferment within his heart.
"Mr. Han," Nan Jun called out gently, drawing Lu Jinhan's attention away from the elevator.
"Here's the information you requested." Nan Jun handed over the documents, then followed Lu Jinhan's gaze to catch a glimpse of Su Rann's retreating figure. It was the first time he had ever seen Mr. Han lost in thought.
Chi Xin's heart sank when she noticed Su Rann and Jiang Zhehan arriving at the company together. Her hands were clenched so tightly that her knuckles turned white. She had been scheming to get close to Young Master Jiang, only to see her dreams crumble.
She couldn't fathom what methods this woman had employed to captivate Young Master Jiang in just a few days. How could Su Rann, whose figure didn't compare to hers, entice the man she had longed for upon her arrival at the company?
With a triumphant smirk, Chi Xin pulled out her phone.
"Ms. Rann, could you teach me?"
At that moment, Jiang Zhehan's admiration for Su Rann had escalated to the point of obsession. She had become the idol etched in his heart.
The rest of the office staff were taken aback as they watched the pair walk in, one after the other. Su Rann's eyes carried a hint of weariness as she strode forward, seemingly indifferent to the man following her.
Jiang Zhehan, ever the devoted admirer, was like an eager puppy, his eyes shining with veneration as he kept pace behind her.
No one could fathom what was going on.
Why was Jiang Zhehan treating Su Rann, a newcomer to the company, with such reverence?
Su Rann made her way straight to the office desk.
"Ms. Rann, would you like some water?" Jiang Zhehan offered obsequiously.
The room fell into an eerie silence.
What in the world was happening? Had the sun truly risen from the west?
Even in the presence of the chairman, the company's notorious bully, Jiang Zhehan, had never behaved this way.
Who on earth was Su Rann?
Su Rann plugged in her earphones, tuning out all external noise.
She craved silence!
Noticing the fatigue on her face, Jiang Zhehan discreetly excused himself.
Ms. Rann was clearly no ordinary person.
Liu Jiatong cast a sidelong glance at Su Rann. Indeed, it was Su Rann who had come to her rescue the day before.
Yet, she couldn't figure out how Su Rann had managed to fend off those three men.
At the time, she had been too frightened to notice, but upon reflection, the whole incident seemed incredible.
During the morning meeting, all the company's employees gathered together.
Jiang Zhehan purposefully chose a seat next to Su Rann.
Chi Xin, upon witnessing this, turned a shade of livid envy.
What made Su Rann so special? She couldn't accept it!
Lu Jinhan stood on the stage, impeccably dressed in a black suit that highlighted his already perfect physique, rendering him even more striking. His face was devoid of any superfluous expression, creating an aura of unapproachability that only served to heighten his mystique.
Many eyes in the audience were drawn to him. A man like him commanded attention wherever he went, shining like a brilliant piece of obsidian.
Lu Jinhan's gaze swept over the crowd. When he caught Jiang Zhehan turning to speak with Su Rann, his lips tightened, his eyes deepened with intensity, and an icy aura enveloped him.
He was not one for frequenting such meetings, and while the gazes of nearly all the women were fixed on him, there was one exception.
She fiddled with her hair, exuding an air of nonchalance and rebellion.
Her eyes sparkled with a mix of cool detachment and outright disdain.
As Lu Jinhan began to present the meeting's agenda, Chi Xin's eyes remained glued to the screen, her mind preoccupied with whether her earlier arrangements had been successful.
She was convinced that if she succeeded, Su Rann would become the nemesis of many women at the company!
When that time came, what would Su Rann have left to be arrogant about?
The projector began displaying slide after slide. Lu Jinhan's hand froze when he saw the intimate photo of Su Rann and Jiang Zhehan on the desk. With a loud snap, he shut the laptop.
"Meeting adjourned," he declared icily, his voice laced with fury.
It seemed as though he was ready to shred everything before him to pieces.
The crowd below was bewildered, unsure why Director Lu had suddenly erupted with such a lethal aura.
His gaze was icy, and with just one look, it felt like plunging into a frigid pool, silencing everyone in the company.
Nan Jun had never seen Mr. Han lose his composure like this. He grabbed the laptop and hurried after him.
Chi Xin's hands were balled into tight fists. Was Su Rann blessed with extraordinary luck? Why else would Director Lu assist her?
All it would take was spreading the photos of Su Rann and Jiang Zhehan together throughout the company, and she was certain the other women wouldn't let Su Rann off easily.
Her goal was to ensure that Su Rann had no place in the company.
Chi Xin glared at Su Rann, who was rising from her seat with unruffled composure, gracefully exiting the room.
People around were still buzzing about what had just happened with Director Lu.
Jiang Zhehan watched her retreating figure, standing aloof from the world, so unlike the women he usually encountered.
Su Rann exuded an air of mystery, deepening Jiang Zhehan's fascination with her.
He quickened his pace, catching up to Su Rann.
"Ms Rann, can we be friends?" he asked with a beaming smile.
At the mention of the word 'friends,' a shadow flickered in her eyes.
It was a term from a bygone era.
She had witnessed life and death, accustomed to the world's grief and happiness.
With her immortal life, she couldn't possibly befriend mortals; without love, their departure wouldn't cause her heartache.
Her heart had been forged through trials, now encased in ice.
She was fated to walk a solitary path forever.
