C25 Hei Lei Taught Su Rann a Lesson!
Nan Jun entered the office, laptop in hand.
On the balcony stood a figure reminiscent of the Dark Night King, radiating arrogance and an icy, austere aura. A cigarette was pinched between his middle and index finger, the surrounding air tinged with a faint halo of smoke.
His mere presence exuded an overwhelming authority and dignity, his sharpness commanding one to only gaze up in awe.
"Mr. Han," Nan Jun approached him.
Mr. Han seemed unusually irrational today.
"Should we postpone today's meeting?" The flickering balcony lights cast an intermittent glow on the man, his dark eyes inscrutable, lips slightly pursed, a trace of chill lurking in his gaze.
"No need," he said sharply, taking a drag from his cigarette before flicking the butt to the ground.
He moved to the sofa with the coiled readiness of a leopard, his legs crossed, a frigid aura repelling any would-be intruders.
"Find out what's going on with Su Rann and Jiang Zhehan," he commanded, his voice cool, his gaze penetrating and stern.
Nan Jun felt a surge of nervousness. It dawned on him that Mr. Han's uncharacteristic behavior was due to Su Rann.
"Understood, Mr. Han," Nan Jun responded, dabbing the sweat from his brow.
As Nan Jun was about to leave, Lu Jinhan called out to him.
"Nan Jun, is a woman who praises one man's looks while flirting with another considered unfaithful?" His piercing, eagle-like eyes seemed to cut straight to the core.
A chill ran down Nan Jun's spine.
"Mr. Han, I have other matters to attend to. I'll take my leave now." Was Mr. Han acting out of jealousy? Nan Jun shook his head in disbelief as he exited.
Chi Xin, returning to the office, found Su Rann sitting there, safe and sound, which only fueled her inner ire.
She had confirmed that the data was uploaded to the projector; it was so close to success. Where had it gone wrong?
At the end of the day, Su Rann and Liu Jiatong left work together, the only two in the company who commuted by bicycle.
As they passed through the corridor, Liu Jiatong still felt a chill down her spine.
The road was eerily quiet, scarcely populated, yet it was the only path to her home.
"Beep, beep." An SUV, its headlights flashing, approached them.
The bright lights nearly blinded her.
"This is bad, Su Rann, we need to turn around quickly," Liu Jiatong said, recognizing the voices of the thugs in the vehicle.
They were the same group that had threatened her days earlier, causing her heart to seize with fear.
Su Rann took her hand, her expression cool and composed. "Don't worry," she said, her beautiful eyes narrowed.
"Su Rann, do you realize that this SUV belongs to their leader, Hei Lei, the local tyrant? No one dares to cross him."
Panic laced Liu Jiatong's voice.
"Mr. Han, is that our lady?" Nan Jun pointed out the window.
Lu Jinhan followed Nan Jun's gesture and saw Su Rann stepping out of the car. She stood in the night wind, her figure slender and solitary, yet she exuded a commanding presence.
"Stop," commanded Lu Jinhan, his voice sharp and icy.
"Mr. Han, that seems to be Hei Lei, the area's bully. How did our lady get involved with him?"
Nan Jun was also concerned for Su Rann.
It wasn't just their delicate women at risk; even a group of men wouldn't faze Hei Lei.
He had maintained his status as the bully of Lan City through sheer force.
Lu Jinhan's brow furrowed, a cold chill emanating from him as he stepped out of the vehicle.
"Su Rann, we should run now. It's my fault for dragging you into this," Liu Jiatong said, her voice breaking.
With a slight smile, Su Rann positioned Liu Jiatong protectively behind her.
"We need to go now, or it'll be too late," Liu Jiatong urged, aware of the road's desolation. If Hei Lei were to harm them, no one would discover it.
Hei Lei leaped from his car, brandishing a spiked club. His dark cheeks, gleaming hair, and muscular frame were the epitome of a gang leader's attire.
"Boss, it's her!" The man behind her declared, pointing at Su Rann.
His head was still wrapped in a bandage, and one leg hung in a sling.
"Exactly, it's this woman," another injured man confirmed.
Liu Jiatong's hands clutched Su Rann's with a vice-like grip, her palms slick with cold sweat.
Su Rann tightened her hold on Jiatong's hand and calmly patted her shoulder, her expression serene as she faced the approaching men.
While Su Rann was unafraid, Jiatong's legs turned to jelly, her heart racing at 120 beats per minute.
Lu Jinhan watched Hei Lei approach them, shifting his feet slightly.
As Hei Lei advanced toward Su Rann, mace in hand, the light caught the scarlet ring on her little finger, its brilliance stunning.
A look of shock and elation crossed Hei Lei's face, as if he had found his salvation.
With a resounding "clang," he knelt on the ground, tossing aside his mace.
Having been in the game for years, he knew better than to cross someone wearing a scarlet ring on their little finger.
To do so was akin to signing one's own death warrant.
"From now on, you're the boss. It was our mistake; we never meant to offend you," Hei Lei implored, kneeling earnestly.
"Why aren't you ordering your lackeys to scram?" Su Rann demanded, her voice steady as Jiatong's hands grew icy in her grasp, her mind reeling in shock.
"Call me boss, then beat it!" His voice thundered like his namesake, commanding and relentless.
The others followed suit, kneeling and calling out "Boss!" before hastily retreating.
"Boss, may I escort you home?" Hei Lei asked with utmost respect.
Su Rann's gaze was sharp and fierce, silencing him with a single look.
Jiatong's mind went blank, her stare vacant as if all this were a dream.
Equally astonished were Lu Jinhan and Nan Jun, standing a short distance away.
Nan Jun's mouth hung open in surprise, and even Lu Jinhan was momentarily taken aback.
Hei Lei climbed into the vehicle, switched on the lights, and watched as Su Rann and Liu Jiatong departed.
"Boss, what in the world just happened?" inquired a man who had previously been injured by Su Rann.
"From now on, she's the boss. You can call me Brother Lei," Hei Lei said, his gaze filled with admiration.
Suddenly, Hei Lei seemed to remember something and abruptly kicked the wounded man beside him.
"Next time, keep your eyes peeled and be careful who you cross. Didn't you notice the crimson ring on her little finger? Or do you have a death wish that includes me?" Hei Lei's presence was as intimidating as an enraged tiger.
"Brother Lei, I'll keep my eyes wide open next time!" the man said, his face contorted into an obsequious grin.
