C29 Don't Even Think about Spending a Single Cent from the Lu Family!
Su Rann closed her book and left with Liu Jiatong. Observing Su Rann, Jiatong couldn't shake the feeling that there was a mysterious aura about her.
As dusk fell and Su Rann entered the Lu family's estate, she was abruptly stopped by a man. "Su Rann, why haven't you been answering my calls?" The man's tone was confrontational and charged with anger. "Come with me quickly! Your mother's been hospitalized." Su Jie grasped her hand, intent on leaving immediately.
Lin Manyin stepped out from the doorway, casting a contemptuous glance at Su Jie and Su Rann. "Such misfortune to be related to you. Su Jie, are you expecting your daughter to foot the medical bills again?" Her voice dripped with scorn.
Su Rann was well aware of the reasons behind her marriage into the Lu family; it was all due to Su Jie's scheme against Lu Jinhan, demanding a dowry of ten million to cover his own massive debts. "Every penny your daughter has belongs to the Lu family now. Don't even dream of spending the Lu family's money!" Manyin declared, hands on her hips and exuding an air of authority.
"Don't stick your nose where it doesn't belong. My daughter is married to the Lu family, which makes their money hers," retorted Su Jie, utterly dismissive of Manyin.
"You're truly shameless. Do you actually think marrying into the Lu family makes you a phoenix? Dream on!" Manyin spat out, her gaze fixed on his distasteful expression.
"Aren't you leaving?" Su Rann interjected calmly, her eyes alight with a mocking glint, completely ignoring Manyin's presence.
With a cold huff, Su Jie departed. "Su Rann, don't even think about spending a cent of the Lu family's money!" Manyin's hands clenched into fists as she watched her leave.
Upon Lu Jinhan's return home, Manyin rushed to confront him. "Jinhan, Su Jie has taken Su Rann away, claiming her mother's in the hospital. Who knows what they're plotting? Could they be targeting the Lu family's assets again?" Her voice was laced with resentment towards Su Rann, envying the stroke of fortune that allowed her to marry Jinhan.
Lu Jinhan was the man of her childhood dreams. She had done everything in her power to marry him, but to no avail. Ultimately, she had no choice but to settle for his stepbrother, Lu Zeyu.
Lu Jinhan's face remained impassive, his gaze icy and piercing.
Without a word, he ascended the stairs.
Lately, he found himself intrigued by Su Rann. She was a far cry from the meek woman she once seemed to be.
What was she really after?
He slipped back into the suit he had previously removed and quickly left the house.
"Nan Jun, find out which hospital Su Rann's mother is in," he commanded as he got into his car and floored the accelerator, speeding off.
"Su Rann, here are the medical bills for your mother's hospital stay," Su Jie said, handing her some documents.
Su Rann gave him a cool, detached look.
"Don't pretend you're broke, Su Rann. How else could you afford such a successful plastic surgery? You're Lu Jinhan's wife now; surely you won't neglect your mother's hospitalization, will you? After all, we've raised you with such care."
Su Jie's eyes bore into Su Rann with malicious intent.
He was determined not to let Su Rann leave without handing over a substantial sum of money today.
Su Rann's gaze shifted to the woman lying in the hospital bed, and she remembered the intel from Eagle Eye.
Su Jie was a compulsive gambler who had trapped Su Rann, pushing her into Lu Jinhan's arms, all to settle his own enormous debts.
His temper was volatile, and the extensive injuries on Su Rann's mother were largely his doing.
His current demand for money from Su Rann was likely the result of another gambling loss.
Facing such a man, Su Rann's lips twisted into a sardonic smile.
As she stood to leave, Su Jie spoke with haughty assurance.
"Su Rann, if you don't give me a million today, I'll leak your intimate photos with Lu Jinhan online. Then, you'll be the one to lose face!"
He was adamant about not letting his cash cow slip away.
A chilling look flashed in Su Rann's eyes, as deep and dark as a frigid pool.
Su Jie felt a sudden tightness in his chest; this woman was truly intimidating.
As Su Rann was about to give this scoundrel a piece of her mind, the door was violently kicked open.
Lu Jinhan entered like a leopard poised to strike, his presence arrogant and wild.
A chilling aura of menace and murderous intent radiated from him, his eyes cold and bloodthirsty like a wild beast. The cruel, intimidating force he exuded seemed to freeze the air instantly!
"Planning to spread those photos online?" he asked, each word deliberate, his voice deep and icy, reminiscent of a Rakshasa emerging from the depths of hell.
Su Jie hadn't anticipated Lu Jinhan's timely arrival and offered a sheepish smile.
"Young Master Lu, you misunderstood. I was only kidding," he said, not wanting to provoke Lu Jinhan, and certainly not daring to.
After all, he needed to keep clinging to the Lu family's prosperous tree.
Lu Jinhan stood protectively over Su Rann. "Su Jie, Su Rann is now my wife. Is she someone you can address so casually?"
He exuded an air of pride.
In that moment, Su Rann found the sensation of being shielded by Lu Jinhan to be somewhat peculiar.
"Young Master Lu, it won't happen again!" Su Jie glanced at Su Rann behind him. When had their relationship become so close?
Su Rann stepped out the door.
"What's the medical bill for the patient in room 5, bed 3?" she inquired coolly.
The nurse typed on the keyboard, "One moment, please!"
"Miss, the hospital fees for the patient in room 5, bed 3 have already been settled by someone else," the nurse said with a gentle smile.
Su Rann shot a cool look at Lu Jinhan, who had just emerged from the ward, his gaze as icy as ever.
"Prepay for two months," she said calmly, producing a card.
Just as Su Rann exited the hospital, her phone rang. She glanced at the caller ID and answered.
"Sister, Dad told me Mom's been hospitalized again. Did Dad ask you for money once more? Don't let yourself be mistreated, Sister. I'm grown up now; you don't have to worry about the family all the time.
"If you're unhappy with the Lu family, just get a divorce. I'll take care of you from now on."
Su Munan spoke.
He was Su Rann's younger brother and was currently attending university.
"Alright, focus on your studies and don't worry about home," she said, recalling Su Rann's last words before closing his eyes, asking her to look after his brother and mother.
Su Rann's brother and mother were her final ties to this world.
Lu Jinhan, standing behind her, heard her voice for the first time, noting an unusual tenderness in it.
"Sister, please stop sending me money. I refuse to accept even a penny from the Lu family. I've started working part-time and can fully support myself.
I've also been awarded a scholarship recently. Sister, I've bought your favorite dress and sent it to you," he said deliberately, unaware that the real Su Rann had perished in that car accident.
His sister had never gotten the chance to wear her favorite fairy-like dress in her lifetime.
