C30 Su Rann Was Looking for Trouble

Su Rann's heart, long frozen solid, was unexpectedly moved by Su Munan's words.

"That's my sister's money, not the Lu family's," Su Rann said, a dark glint passing through her eyes.

She stood alone in the night breeze, her slender figure evoking an inexplicable sense of heartache.

"Sister, I'm off to work. I'll call you when I get a chance. Don't overdo it," Su Munan said before abruptly ending the call.

Su Rann held her phone, a trace of hesitation in her grasp.

She raised her eyes to the starry sky, admiring the moon's beauty on this particular night.

For years, she had courted death, driven by loneliness and a weary familiarity with the world's cruelty, having come to understand the true nature of humanity.

She had watched, powerless, as both the person she loved and the person who loved her departed from this life, leaving her with nothing in this world to cling to.

"Go home!" Lu Jinhan commanded, approaching her with a resolute tone and an icy gaze.

"This is for the medical expenses," Su Rann said, offering him a bank card.

Lu Jinhan's brow furrowed slightly. "I never take back anything I give away."

Her eyes, reflecting the moonlight, seemed even more frigid.

"I'm not accustomed to owing anyone. If you don't want it, feel free to discard it!" She pressed the bank card into his hand and walked away, her silhouette resolute.

The breeze teased her hair, highlighting her strikingly delicate features.

Su Rann hailed a taxi with a wave of her hand.

Watching her departure, Lu Jinhan felt a stir in the tenderest part of his heart.

He had always equated Su Rann with Su Jie, believing them to be cut from the same cloth.

She had, in his mind, entrapped him for money, shamelessly making her way into his bed.

But the Su Rann he encountered now was intelligent, composed, and maintained a cool distance from him.

This version of Su Rann was an enigma to him.

Lin Manyin had been waiting on the sofa since Lu Jinhan had stepped out.

She was convinced that he would finally see Su Rann for who she truly was.

As Su Rann entered the room, Manyin caught a glimpse of defeat in her eyes and couldn't help but let a slight smile play across her lips.

"Su Rann, how dare you show your face here today?" Lin Manyin's voice dripped with sarcasm.

"Are you here because you've taken more money from the Lu family to bail out your destitute household? Your father certainly sees you as nothing more than a cash cow. What, has he spent all the money and sent you back to us?"

Lin Manyin stood with her arms crossed, exuding the air of a lady of the house.

Su Rann had been oblivious to the incessant barking of the stray dog since she walked in.

Lin Manyin's words only added to her growing impatience.

Her mood was particularly foul today, as if a little demon inside her was clawing its way out.

She paid no mind to Lin Manyin; to Su Rann, she was as insignificant as an ant.

"Stop right there!" Lin Manyin called out just as Su Rann was about to ascend the stairs.

"Su Rann, have you gone mute? I'm speaking to you. Don't think you can just brush off today's events. You're well aware that everything you eat and live on is funded by the Lu family. Who gave you permission to give money to the Su family so freely?

Your Su family is a money pit. You only married into the Lu family for their wealth," Lin Manyin ranted on.

Su Rann's fists clenched tighter, and a chilling aura enveloped her, like a harbinger of doom that made one's blood run cold.

"Enough!" Su Rann was about to silence the woman herself when Lu Jinhan's voice echoed through the room.

Lin Manyin should count herself lucky that Lu Jinhan had intervened at that moment; otherwise, Su Rann would have made her pay dearly for her words.

"Lin Manyin, the affairs between Su Rann and me are none of your concern," Lu Jinhan said, his gaze dark and brooding.

He could sense that Su Rann was truly enraged.

Upon hearing Lu Jinhan's footsteps drawing near, Su Rann turned on her heel and strode toward her room.

She didn't even grant him a glance.

This woman, she carried herself with such pride.

"Jinhan, don't let Su Rann blind you to the truth. You should know why she really married into the Lu family," Lin Manyin said, not expecting Lu Jinhan to take Su Rann's side today.

Wasn't Lu Jinhan always dismissive of Su Rann?

"From now on, at home, you'll address me as big brother. Lin Manyin, remember your place. Don't meddle in matters concerning me and Su Rann."

Lu Jinhan's lips were a tight line, leaving Lin Manyin with nothing but his aloof and haughty silhouette.

Watching Su Rann and Lu Jinhan walk ahead, Lin Manyin's hands clenched into fists.

She was determined to show Su Rann who the true lady of the Lu family was.

Her teeth bit into her lip, as if she were tearing at Su Rann's flesh, drawing blood.

The next day at work, Lin Manyin was consumed by a fiery rage.

"Linda, check the sales department for a woman named Su Rann, and report on her recent performance," Lin Manyin commanded, her gaze icy and piercing as she sat at her desk.

Now that Su Rann was under her, Lin Manyin was not about to let her off easily.

"Understood, Manager Lin."

Shortly, Linda laid out Su Rann's files before Lin Manyin.

Lin Manyin scrutinized the documents with a sinister smirk playing at the corners of her mouth.

"Bring me Su Rann from Group D," she ordered, exuding authority.

"Manager Lin, what business do you have with someone from Group D?"

The company's staff looked down on Group D.

To them, those were the lowest of the low, beyond redemption. Except for Jiang Zhehan, no one from Group D was even fit to serve as Manager Lin's assistant.

"I intend to properly educate her on how to conduct herself," Lin Manyin stated, gripping her cup tightly, her intent clear to Linda.

Knowing that Manager Lin had someone to discipline, Linda would ensure a proper "invitation."

Linda made her way to Group D, where everyone was busy gossiping during work hours.

She looked upon them with contempt. It was no surprise they were always last in performance – a bunch of people with no ambition.

Her gaze was full of scorn.

"Su Rann, come with me!" She didn't know Su Rann by face, but she was certain that none here were worthy of her acquaintance.

No one responded.

"Su Rann, do not make me repeat myself a third time!" Linda, with her air of superiority, called out once more.

The once bustling atmosphere suddenly fell silent.
