C32 Madam Could Save Me

After Su Rann returned to the Lu family home, she found Mrs. Lee leaning on the sofa, her face a deep shade of red, her hands frantically scratching at her neck. She struggled to breathe, much like a fish gasping for air after being pulled from the water.

"Madam, the medicine, the medicine!" Mrs. Lee's voice was faltering.

Upon seeing this, Su Rann quickly approached and pressed firmly on an acupoint on Mrs. Lee's neck. Mrs. Lee's breathing became even more labored, as if she were on the brink of suffocation. She fixed a deathly glare on Su Rann, convinced that Su Rann was trying to end her life.

"Don't talk! I'm not going to hurt you," Su Rann insisted, her hands applying more pressure.

Mrs. Lee, who had been struggling with severe asthma for many years, felt as though she could not breathe at all. She was familiar with the daily agony she had to endure, an experience beyond the comprehension of those in good health. Resigned, she slowly closed her eyes, ready to leave her fate to the heavens.

She thought perhaps it was time for her release from the years of suffering that had long since robbed her of the joy of living. She had become nothing more than a vessel for medications, her life sustained by drugs alone.

Sweat began to form on Su Rann's brow.

Lin Manyin, witnessing Su Rann pressing down on Mrs. Lee, rushed down from upstairs in alarm.

"Su Rann, what are you doing to Mrs. Lee?" Lin Manyin demanded, her eyes on Mrs. Lee's reddened face. She accused Su Rann, "Are you trying to take Mrs. Lee's life? Where is her medicine?"

Aware of Mrs. Lee's long-standing asthma, Lin Manyin hadn't anticipated it worsening so suddenly. Mrs. Lee was unable to speak, and in her panic, Lin Manyin scrambled to Mrs. Lee's room and found her asthma medication on the table.

She couldn't afford for anything to happen to Mrs. Lee; without her, Lin Manyin would lose her pretext to get close to Lu Jinhan.

"Mrs. Lee, quickly, take your medicine," Lin Manyin urged, bringing the medication to her.

Seeing Mrs. Lee's agonized expression, she truly feared the worst.

Lu Jinhan entered from the doorway just then. Lin Manyin approached him frantically. "Jinhan, did you see? This woman is trying to take Mrs. Lee's life!"

She pointed at Su Rann, her face twisted into a sneer.

Lu Jinhan quickly took the medicine from Lin Manyin's hands, as Mrs. Lee meant a great deal to him.

"Su Rann, move!" Lu Jinhan's face grew stormy.

Su Rann's hands kept retracting as she wiped the sweat from her forehead.

At that moment, Mrs. Lee stood up, feeling significantly better. Her asthma wasn't as severe as before, and to her surprise, she found relief without medication.

"Mrs. Lee, please take your medicine," Lin Manyin urged as she approached.

In Lu Jinhan's presence, she demonstrated great filial respect for Mrs. Lee.

"If you really want Mrs. Lee to live a longer life, it's best not to let her take these medicines!" Su Rann cast a glance at the medicine in his hand and headed upstairs.

Her gaze was tranquil, and her dark pupils set against the azure shimmer of her eyes resembled a serene, fathomless ancient tale under the moonlight.

Lin Manyin passed a glass of water to Mrs. Lee, "Don't mind her babbling, Mrs. Lee. Go ahead and take your medicine."

They didn't believe Su Rann had any special skills. Mrs. Lee accepted the pills from Lin Manyin and swallowed them.

Su Rann observed their naive behavior, shook her head, and walked into the house.

After dinner, Mrs. Lee was washing dishes in the kitchen.

A loud "clang" echoed as they heard someone collapse in the kitchen.

"Young Master, it's not good, Mrs. Lee has taken ill again," a helper from the kitchen announced.

Lu Jinhan's gaze turned icy as he strode toward the kitchen.

Lin Manyin offered the asthma medication, "Mrs. Lee, please take your medicine quickly."

Mrs. Lee's condition seemed far worse than before.

"Young Master, the lady... the lady can save me," she gasped, her voice faltering but clear enough for Lu Jinhan to understand.

"Are you speaking of Su Rann?" Lu Jinhan inquired.

Mrs. Lee, scratching her neck raw, nodded with difficulty.

"Jinhan, let Mrs. Lee take her medicine first. We can't let her endure this agony," Manyin said, her eyes misting over.

Hearing Mrs. Lee call out for Su Rann at such a moment, Manyin's hands involuntarily clenched.

Lu Jinhan swiftly scooped up Mrs. Lee and headed for the living room.

Su Rann, upon hearing the sound of someone falling, immediately realized that Mrs. Lee's illness had taken a turn for the worse.

"Su Rann, come quickly. Mrs. Lee says you can save her," Lin Manyin called out.

Su Rann remained stoic.

"It's all because of you, Su Rann. Mrs. Lee refuses to take her medication now. If anything happens to her, it will be on your conscience!" Lin Manyin accused, her voice laced with anger.

Su Rann approached them and briefly assessed Mrs. Lee's symptoms.

"First Madam, please, save me," Mrs. Lee pleaded weakly.

Su Rann then headed upstairs, leaving everyone in shock.

"Jinhan, do you see? This woman is the epitome of ingratitude, she's practically watching someone die without lifting a finger," Lin Manyin spat, pointing at Su Rann's retreating figure.

"Su Rann!" Lu Jinhan's voice grew icy.

Yet, Su Rann didn't slow down; her pace quickened.

Something within Lu Jinhan seemed to be brewing and expanding.

As he was about to administer the medicine to Mrs. Lee, Su Rann descended the stairs.

"Get the medication from this pharmacy. Stop giving her those pills. Her symptoms will improve after one course of treatment. She can be cured after three courses," Su Rann said, her eyes shimmering with certainty.

"Go!" Lu Jinhan commanded.

"Jinhan, can you really trust what this woman says? Aren't you worried that Mrs. Lee's condition might worsen with this new medicine? She's been battling asthma for years, and even the hospital's chief doctors are at a loss. How can you so readily believe her?" Lin Manyin exclaimed incredulously.

"Put Mrs. Lee on a firmer bed, and make sure she doesn't injure herself," Su Rann instructed before heading upstairs.

Lu Jinhan's gaze lingered on her, and in that moment, he found himself inexplicably trusting her.

"Jinhan, do you truly trust what this woman says? Mrs. Lee is confused and refusing medication. Are you going to deny her treatment as well?" Lin Manyin had the pills ready, poised to give them to Mrs. Lee at a moment's notice.

"Jinhan, are you not clear on who she is? If anything untoward happens to Mrs. Lee, we'll be filled with remorse."

She continued to whisper in his ear.

"Dispose of all the medicine!" Lu Jinhan commanded, emphasizing each word.

The dim yellow light cast a shadow over one side of his nose, accentuating his features. His voice was hoarse and gravelly, as if he was straining to force the words from his throat, giving him an eerie presence in the still of the night.

Lin Manyin's hands clenched tighter and tighter, grinding the pills she held into dust.

Somehow, everything seemed to have changed without notice.
