C34 Because Your Academic Abilities Were Poor

"Mr. Jinhan, you've arrived," said a young girl, about seventeen or eighteen, with a cute bun atop her head. Her features were fresh and unsullied, though her eyes were red and swollen.

A man lay on the bed, his long, slightly curled eyelashes casting a shadow over his serene face, reminiscent of a sleeping prince. His complexion was ghostly pale, and his frame was gaunt. An IV drip was connected to his hand.

"How is Boyuan doing?" Lu Jinhan inquired of the doctor at his side.

The doctors standing nearby shook their heads, signaling their helplessness.

At the sound of Lu Jinhan's voice, the man on the bed opened his eyes, which held a languid gaze.

"Jinhan, you've come," he said, his voice faint and somewhat raspy.

If Lu Jinhan was seen as proud and wild, like a clear, strong liquor or the untamed wind, then this man was the epitome of cool elegance, as refreshing as tea, cultured yet distinct.

The man spared a glance at Su Rann beside him, his expression unchanging.

"Xuan, Jinhan is here. Why didn't you tell me?" he asked, a gentle smile gracing his lips, pure and untainted.

Su Rann could discern the underlying melancholy and sorrow behind that smile.

"Boyuan, this is Su Rann. She has some medical expertise; let her examine you," Lu Jinhan suggested, though his voice lacked conviction.

Lo Boyuan observed Su Rann, perhaps accustomed to seeing many doctors, but never one so young. He offered a smile, not rejecting her. Though he harbored little hope, he did not wish to disappoint Lu Jinhan's earnest efforts.

"Mr. Lo, may I take your pulse?" Su Rann asked as she approached him.

The other doctors in the room looked on with scorn. A girl so young, pretending to be so experienced? Surely she was up to some trickery.

Su Rann's delicate fingers touched his arm, which was now as thin as kindling, eliciting sympathy from anyone who saw him. Her fingers were icy as they pressed against his veins, her eyes dark and inscrutable.

After her examination, Su Rann stood up.

"Mr. Lo, may I see your medical reports?" she asked softly.

"Little girl, can you actually tell what's wrong with my young master? First, you take his pulse, then you pore over the reports. Are you just pulling our leg?"

The butler could hardly stand her approach.

She was so young, it screamed of a scam, no genuine expertise.

The young master was already so frail; he couldn't bear to watch him suffer more.

"Uncle Wang..." Lo Boyuan coughed weakly, clearly exhausted, "Bring me the examination report."

He was a guest of Lu Jinhan, after all, and deserved due courtesy.

Uncle Wang sighed resignedly and laid a thick stack of documents before Su Rann.

"Take your time reviewing them. If there's anything you don't understand, don't hesitate to consult the doctors here," he said with a sidelong glance before stepping aside.

Su Rann was unfazed by the scrutiny of those around her, swiftly scanning the medical reports.

As she breezed through the documents, the last flicker of hope in the onlookers' eyes died out.

Even novice doctors wouldn't skim the material as she did.

Out of respect for Lo Boyuan's presence, nobody else spoke up.

"Brother, have some porridge; you haven't eaten all day," Lo Xiaxuan said, offering a cup of black wheat porridge.

By now, Lo Boyuan had grown indifferent to life and death, weary of the relentless pain.

In his prime, whether racing cars or playing basketball, he excelled. Now, barely tipping the scales at a hundred pounds, standing was a struggle.

"Mr. Lo, my initial diagnosis is that you have celiac disease. You need to be mindful of your diet, focusing on gluten-free, high-protein, high-calorie, low-fat, and non-irritating foods that are easy to digest.

This porridge, however, is currently unsuitable for you," Su Rann stated calmly.

"Young Master Lo is suffering from gastroenteritis, what celiac disease? What could a young girl like you possibly know?" retorted a self-proclaimed doctor with overseas credentials.

"Exactly, Young Master Lo's condition is primarily gastroenteritis, coupled with autoimmune issues. Are you trying to make fools of us for our lack of knowledge? You're completely off base."

"With Young Master Lo's current condition, feeding him high-protein, high-calorie foods is akin to slow suicide. And are you aware that to confirm whether he has celiac disease, an examination of the small intestine is necessary? Young Master Lo is already too weak for such an ordeal."

...

The doctors around spoke with contempt.

Su Rann was unfazed as she approached Lo Boyuan. "Does Young Master Lo experience significant abdominal bloating, nausea, and vomiting? Are his stools pale, voluminous, greasy or frothy, often floating on the water's surface, and particularly foul-smelling?"

Hearing Su Rann's description, the doctors nearby furrowed their brows.

"Young Master Lo hardly eats; how could there be a large volume of stool?!" They sighed silently to themselves.

It was considered indecent for a young woman to ask a young man such questions.

"Young Master Lo, don't be swayed by this young lady's words. She's clueless. You don't have celiac disease; she's spouting nonsense."

Su Rann pulled out a pen and paper from her bag, her handwriting strong and confident as she jotted down notes.

"Young Master Lo, here's a prescription. Try the medication for three days; you should see some improvement," she said, handing it to Lo Boyuan.

"Young Master Lo, this woman is naive. You can't just take any medication; your body won't withstand it!" a middle-aged doctor with gold-rimmed glasses cautioned.

"Young girl, how dare you make such bold claims? To see improvement in three days? Young Master Lo's illness has persisted for years.

"If there's really an improvement, I'll leave the medical profession for good," declared another short, stout man.

"Exactly. Mr. Lo's condition hasn't developed overnight. We've been powerless to help, let alone a green young girl like you!" chimed in the others.

Su Rann stood up, walked over to them, her smile defiant.

"Do you want to know why?" Her voice was crisp and cool. "Because your scholarship is lacking!"

Her words left the doctors speechless, as if a bone was lodged in their throats.

They were esteemed in the field of medicine, yet they were being scorned by a young woman. They couldn't stand it.

"Alright, we'll wait. But if Young Master Lo's condition doesn't improve within three days, you will have to answer for it, and even the Lu family won't be able to distance themselves from the matter!" The group left in a huff.
