C35 Su Rann Was Locked in the Basement

Su Rann and Lu Jinhan stepped outside together.

"Are you confident?" Lu Jinhan inquired, observing her self-assured demeanor.

Su Rann settled into the car, casually patting her knees.

She shook her head. Confidence wasn't the issue when it came to treating illnesses.

Healing also required Medicinal Fate; sometimes, even if Hwa Tuo were alive, without the patient's cooperation, the treatment would be futile.

To Nan Jun, Su Rann's nonchalant expression seemed to betray a lack of confidence.

He felt anxious for Young Master Lo, surprised at Mr. Han's apparent recklessness this time.

Midway, Lu Jinhan received an urgent call. After dropping Su Rann off at the Lu family's entrance, he didn't exit the car but instead turned around and headed back.

Inside the Lo family's courtyard, the medicine Su Rann had prescribed was ready. Lo Xiaxuan brought it to her brother, intending to assist him in drinking it.

"Young Master, please consider this carefully. All medicines have their risks, and can you really trust the words of a young girl?" the butler interjected, stepping forward.

"Young Master Lo, you should think this through. The lady prescribed the medication for lactase diarrhea, a condition that's quite rare in our country.

And she's quite bold, claiming you'll see results in three days," the family doctor added.

Lo Xiaxuan hesitated, not wanting to put her brother at risk.

Now, Lo Boyuan was her sole remaining family. If anything happened to him, she would be the last one left in the Lo family.

Her hands trembled.

Lo Boyuan's face showed no change. "I'm already on borrowed time, with just a few months left. Xuan, give it to me. Let's treat a dead horse as if it's alive. If anything goes wrong, don't blame the young lady."

He took the cup of medicine from Xiaxuan's hands and drank it.

The butler and the doctor shook their heads in disapproval. The Young Master was acting without due consideration!

After Lo Boyuan drank the medicine, Xiaxuan stayed constantly by his side, not leaving him for a moment.

Her heart was in a vice grip, as though someone was squeezing it tightly.

"Su Rann, did you treat the Lo family's young master yesterday?" Lin Manyin confronted her with an accusatory tone.

Her face was tense, giving her a somewhat fierce appearance.

Huang Jiamin's expression was stern, as if she were scrutinizing a criminal.

"Yeah, what's the issue?" She descended the stairs, her voice icy.

"Mom, I've always said this woman is a magnet for trouble, stirring up problems everywhere. Su Rann, who gave you the audacity to involve the Lu family in your schemes?"

Lin Manyin was visibly seething with anger.

"What about the Lu family?" Huang Jiamin's demeanor became imperious upon hearing the words 'Lu family', as she made her way down the stairs.

"Mom, you're not aware, are you? Su Rann has agreed to treat Lo Boyuan's illness, vowing to cure him within three days. She's even wagered on it. If his condition doesn't improve within three days, the Lo family won't let the Lu family off the hook easily!

She's not only arrogant but also recklessly dragging the Lu family into this mess. Doesn't everyone know that the Lo family's young master is on his last days?

It wouldn't matter if it were three years instead of three days; curing him might still be impossible. Isn't Su Rann putting the Lu family in jeopardy?"

Lin Manyin whispered maliciously into Huang Jiamin's ear.

She gave Su Rann a disdainful look, as though anticipating the unfolding drama.

With a crash, Huang Jiamin slammed her cup of tea onto the floor.

The maid at her side shuddered.

"Is this true?" Her piercing gaze turned toward Su Rann.

"Absolutely." Su Rann's acknowledgment was calm and composed, her seriousness evident.

"Ridiculous!" Huang Jiamin was clearly enraged.

"Security, take Su Rann to the basement and keep her there. She's not to be released without my say-so. We owe the Lo family an explanation!" Huang Jiamin was resolute in not letting this woman off easily.

When the interests of the Lu family were at stake, she was unyielding.

Lin Manyin's lips twisted into a sly smile; Su Rann was truly digging her own grave.

In both Lan City and the capital, renowned doctors kept their distance from the Lo family's young master.

Some even claimed he had an incurable, bizarre illness. She was truly looking for trouble.

As the security guards approached Su Rann, her gaze swept over them like the icy depths of a cold pool. Her eyes were dark and profound, causing the guards to hesitate in their advance.

"I'll walk over myself!" Su Rann resolved not to reveal her true strength until she found the key.

"You're really asking for trouble!" Lin Manyin watched Su Rann head towards the basement, her spirits lifting at the sight. She had thought this woman was formidable, but now she realized how foolish she was. Her smile grew wider.

As evening approached, Lin Manyin made her way to the basement, eager to see if Su Rann had been reduced to tears by the fear of cockroaches and rats. She relished the thought of witnessing Su Rann's distress.

"How are you feeling, Su Rann?" Lin Manyin asked with a victorious smirk, standing at the doorway. "Do you enjoy the musty smell? It seems fitting for you, as if you belong with the trash. And the rats—have they been keeping you company with their squeaking? Just thinking about it is unsettling. Have they frightened you?"

Lin Manyin was intent on seeing Su Rann terrified. But as she finished her taunt, something black and swift flew at her.

"Ah!" Lin Manyin let out a piercing scream as a rat scurried over her. "Get away, get away!" she yelled, losing all composure. Rats were her greatest aversion.

"Right now, I don't hear the rats—you're the only one screaming," Su Rann's voice was crisp and icy.

Lin Manyin trembled with rage.

"Wait and see, Su Rann. Don't get too smug. You'll be starving these next few days; don't expect a single bite to eat!" With a final glance at the rat on the floor, Lin Manyin fled in disarray.

"Skin that rat and pull out its tendons!" she ordered the security guard at the entrance.

Meanwhile, Su Rann remained seated on the ground, her composure intact. Aside from the darkness and dampness, the basement environment wasn't too bad—quiet, at least, without the cacophony of the outside world. She craved silence but had to endure a world that agitated her.

She had tried every way to die in this world, yet each morning she awoke, still alive. It was imperative that she gather the keys quickly and escape this worrisome existence.
