C37 Su Rann Cured Young Master Lo's Illness!
Xiaxuan clutched the medicinal broth tightly in her hands. "Brother, I respect your choice. Please, drink the medicine."
She gazed at Lo Boyuan's emaciated form, a lump forming in her throat as tears welled up in her eyes.
Her brother had once been the captain of both the basketball and racing teams.
It was hard to believe that in just a few short years, he had become so frail.
This time, Lo Boyuan didn't refuse. He gave a slight nod.
This was the last batch of herbal medicine. Regardless of the outcome, he was ready to accept it.
One must wonder, how desperate does a person have to be to come to terms with reality and fate, yet still cling to hope...
"Young Master Lo, you mustn't drink this medicine. It could be the death of you!" the family doctor insisted repeatedly.
He had always dismissed Su Rann's words as sheer nonsense.
What could a young girl possibly know about the world?
These were complex illnesses that even specialists couldn't cure. The idea that she, a mere girl, could heal them was preposterous.
"Young Master Lo, if you don't take this medicine, you might live a few more months. If you do, you might not even see tomorrow's sunrise!" he tried to intervene.
A chilling look passed through Xiaxuan's eyes as she brandished a dagger in her hand.
"Respect the brother's choice!" she enunciated firmly.
"Young Master Lo is ruined by your hand!" the family doctor spat out bitterly before storming off.
"Brother, we trust Miss Su. I can tell that Su Rann is different from the rest. You trust her too, don't you?"
Xiaxuan's voice softened considerably.
Lo Boyuan managed a laborious nod.
After he took the medicine, Xiaxuan remained vigilantly by his side.
This night was a matter of life and death for them, and she couldn't afford to be careless.
Every half hour, Xiaxuan checked her brother's temperature.
When midnight had passed and she noticed his temperature was on a downward trend, a rare smile graced her lips.
Subsequently, each time she checked, Lo Boyuan's temperature continued to drop.
"Brother, your fever has finally broken," Xiaxuan sobbed with relief and joy.
Previously, even when Lo Boyuan's fever subsided, it would return within two hours. But since his temperature normalized, he hadn't suffered another high fever.
His consciousness was gradually returning.
"Brother, your body temperature is finally back to normal," Xiaxuan said, embracing Lo Boyuan tightly.
She was more concerned about his health than anyone else could be.
In the Lo family, it was just the two of them. If Lo Boyuan were to pass away, she would be left without any relatives in this world.
"What time is it?" Lo Boyuan murmured, his lips barely moving.
He felt significantly better than before; his body was more relaxed, and his mind, much clearer.
"Xuan, I'm a bit hungry. Could you make me something to eat?"
Lo Boyuan's request thrilled Xiaxuan.
Since he had become ill, eating had been a struggle, and he had never expressed a desire for food.
"Brother, hold on. I'll make something for you myself!" Xiaxuan said, leaping out of bed with joy.
"Wait, brother. You've run out of medicine. I should go to the Lu family and bring Miss Su to check on you," Xiaxuan said, rushing out the door.
Watching Xiaxuan's retreating figure, a slight smile played on Lo Boyuan's lips.
Huang Jiamin had a premonition that something had happened to the young master of the Lo family.
When Lo Xiaxuan arrived at the Lu family's residence, Huang Jiamin personally greeted her.
The Lo family was a prominent household in Lan City, holding a slightly higher status than the Lu family. Huang Jiamin certainly did not want to offend them.
Now that Lo Boyuan was in trouble, she had no choice but to surrender Su Rann, hoping the situation wouldn't affect the Lu family.
"Mrs. Lu, where is Su Rann?" Xiaxuan asked, her voice tinged with urgency.
Huang Jiamin, seeing the haste in her eyes, took Xiaxuan's hands in hers.
"Xuan, you and Boyuan are good kids. It's just unfortunate that..." She trailed off.
"I know it's all that wretched girl Su Rann's fault. The Lu family has already punished her on your behalf. She's to blame for everything!
We will certainly provide the Lo family with a proper explanation," Huang Jiamin said, her smile tinged with regret.
"What? Punished her? Where is she?" Xiaxuan asked, her anxiety evident.
"Rest assured. Ever since she returned from the Lo family, she's been confined to the basement. By now, she must have realized her mistake!"
Huang Jiamin was concerned that Xiaxuan might be upset with their treatment of Su Rann.
"Where is she now? Why are you punishing her? Find her immediately," demanded Xiaxuan, her face seething with anger.
Huang Jiamin froze. "Xiaxuan, did Su Rann's medicine worsen the Young Master's condition? We knew you were coming to fetch her today, so we've already disciplined her."
"What are you talking about? Su Rann healed my brother's illness. Release her at once!" Xiaxuan was taken aback by their mistreatment of the Lo family's benefactor.
Huang Jiamin's expression collapsed visibly.
What? Su Rann cured Lo Boyuan's illness? Was she hearing things?
Lo Boyuan's condition was well-known throughout Lan City.
Everyone was aware that the Lo family had a young master whose time was thought to be short.
"Xiaxuan, are you saying Su Rann cured Young Master Lo's illness?" Huang Jiamin appeared incredulous.
"Absolutely!" Xiaxuan replied, her arms crossed and her face alight with happiness.
"Then release Miss Su immediately!" Xiaxuan commanded with a stern voice.
The security guards exchanged puzzled glances.
With no other choice, Huang Jiamin instructed the security to free Su Rann.
Mrs. Lee, standing nearby, couldn't help but smile at the news.
The lady of the house would finally be released from the basement. She was confident that if Su Rann could cure her asthma, she could cure others as well.
In her eyes, Su Rann was the living embodiment of Hwa Tuo.
With a squeak, the door swung open, letting in a beam of sunlight.
Su Rann opened her eyes and stretched lazily.
It had been a long time since she had enjoyed such restful sleep; the basement was indeed much quieter.
Upon entering and seeing Su Rann's relaxed state, Xiaxuan's hands clenched into fists.
"Is this the way the Lu family treats a benefactor of the Lo family?" she asked, fixing her gaze on Huang Jiamin.
"Should anything happen to Miss Su, the Lo family will not let this go lightly!"
Huang Jiamin, caught off guard by the turn of events, could only stand to the side, offering a continuous stream of apologetic smiles.
Su Rann was careful not to cross the Lo family.
"May I leave now?" Su Rann rose to her feet, stretching her limbs, her voice cool and detached.
"Absolutely," Huang Jiamin advanced. "Please go and follow up with Young Master Lo's treatment."
If she managed to heal Lo Boyuan, the Lu family would be indebted to the Lo family. Should the Lu family face any troubles in the future, the Lo family would surely lend their support.
She was quietly calculating her next moves.
"I won't go!" Su Rann declared, passing by them both, her expression unreadable.
