C40 Su Rann Was Sick

"Su Rann, what kind of underhanded magic did you use to heal Young Master Lo?" Lin Manyin asked incredulously.

Lately, she had noticed that Su Rann seemed to have the Midas touch; everything that involved her somehow turned out well.

Upon Su Rann's return, Lin Manyin confronted her with a shout.

Su Rann carried on as if nothing had occurred, her demeanor nonchalant, her gaze icy.

"Su Rann, are you ignoring me?!" Lin Manyin's presence intensified, feeling more and more that Su Rann was disregarding her.

Lin Manyin's fury was like a pebble tossed into the ocean, failing to stir up any commotion.

"Su Rann, stop right there!" Lin Manyin attempted to block her path.

With a loud "clang," the door slammed shut, leaving Lin Manyin's face just a centimeter from it.

Had she stepped forward a moment earlier, she might have been injured.

Lin Manyin's fists clenched tightly, her nails digging into her palms.

Su Rann, you'll see!

Upon his return, Lu Jinhan found Su Rann's door firmly closed.

After lighting a cigarette and receiving a call from Lo Boyuan, he felt an unexplainable sense of irritation.

"Bang, bang, bang!" He rapped on Su Rann's door, seemingly out of control.

There was no answer from Su Rann.

"Bang, bang, bang!" He knocked again, unable to restrain his hand.

Still, Su Rann did not respond.

"Mrs. Lee, has Su Rann returned?" he asked, tossing his cigarette to the ground, his eyes darkening.

"Young Master, I saw the lady return to her room," Mrs. Lee reported dutifully.

Lu Jinhan's heart had never felt such turmoil.

"Su Rann, open the door!" His eyes were icy and piercing.

Again, there was no response.

With a "creak," Lu Jinhan pushed the door open and entered.

The warm orange light poured down from the ceiling, illuminating Su Rann as she lay peacefully on the sofa.

Her fan-like eyelashes cast shadows around her eyes, and her delicate face resembled that of a slumbering nymph.

The once sharp contours of her face softened, and the previous air of aloofness had dissipated.

Lu Jinhan approached her, step by step, his initial rage melting away at the sight of her tranquil sleeping face.

He bent down to see Su Rann curled up into a small ball on the sofa, looking rather pitiable. As he reached to cover her with a blanket, his hand brushed her forehead, causing him to furrow his brow in concern.

"Is it this hot? Su Rann, Su Rann?" Lu Jinhan called out to her. Without hesitation, he scooped her up from the sofa and gently laid her on the bed. His deft fingers quickly dialed a number.

"What's brought this on? Why the call, Mr. Han?" teased the voice on the other end.

"Get to Cloud Sea Villa within fifteen minutes. If you're even a minute late, be ready for me to wreck your hospital!" Lu Jinhan said sternly before hanging up.

"Hey, hey..." The person on the other end grumbled under their breath but quickly got moving, knowing full well that Lu Jinhan meant business.

"Mr. Han, you're not ill?" Ann Hao was taken aback to find him standing there, perfectly fine.

"Come with me!" Lu Jinhan urged with urgency in his voice.

"Mr. Han, you've got me rushing over here; is there an emergency?" Ann Hao had raced over, risking life and limb.

He was met with a cold stare from Lu Jinhan and promptly fell silent.

"Mr. Han, what's the matter? Why the urgent call?" Ann Hao had made what was typically a half-hour drive in just fifteen minutes.

Lu Jinhan led the way, opening a door with Ann Hao close behind.

"Quickly, we need to reduce her fever!" worry laced Lu Jinhan's voice.

"Mr. Han, since when did you start keeping a hidden beauty? And such a stunner at that!"

"She's burning up at 39 degrees. Mr. Han, have you overdone it?" Ann Hao quipped, his lips pursed. "Turns out Mr. Han is quite the despot!"

"Looking for trouble?" Ann Hao could feel a piercing gaze cutting through him from behind.

He gestured for silence.

As Ann Hao's hand was about to touch Su Rann, her eyes snapped open, and with a swift kick, she sent him flying three meters back.

"Mr. Han, she's fierce!" Ann Hao looked towards Lu Jinhan with a face of feigned innocence.

Perhaps due to her frail state, Su Rann passed out once more.

Ann Hao clambered up from the ground, bewildered. "Mr. Han, what in the world is happening here?" He was Lan City's most renowned doctor, one whom others couldn't even dream of summoning.

"Bring down her fever first!"

Lu Jinhan wasn't the least bit surprised to learn that Su Rann had some self-defense skills, as he had already witnessed her taking down a group of thugs.

Observing Su Rann, he felt as though he was seeing her for the first time.

"Mr. Han, you seem to have a taste for this!" Ann Hao said, shaking his head in resignation.

Su Rann remained still only when Lu Jinhan touched her.

The clear liquid trickled into her body, making her appear so fragile that Lu Jinhan felt an inexplicable tug at his heart.

Listening to Su Rann's slow, rhythmic breathing, Lu Jinhan stepped out onto the balcony.

His silhouette was cool and haughty, standing there like a sovereign of the night, radiating an intense chill. A cigarette was perched between his middle and index fingers, the smoke rings billowing out to shroud him in a mist.

Late into the night, Su Rann finally stirred awake.

Her body ached as if it had been crushed by stones.

During her menstrual cycle, the pain was so intense it felt like an ordeal. She would desperately search for the key to escape this torment as swiftly as possible.

Upon standing and noticing Lu Jinhan seated on the sofa, her gaze sharpened, and her body tensed defensively.

"Are you feeling any better?" Lu Jinhan asked, his voice slightly raspy.

Su Rann's gaze grew more piercing.

She was highly sensitive, yet she hadn't detected Lu Jinhan's presence.

Who was this man, really?

"I'll have Mrs. Lee prepare you some brown sugar water," he said, then stood and made his way to the door.

As Lu Jinhan vanished from her view, Su Rann's heightened anxiety gradually subsided.

She never sensed Lu Jinhan's presence whenever he appeared, which made her quest for the key all the more challenging.

Who was this man? She had never faced such a mystery in all her thousand years.

Even in a faint, she could kick Ann Hao away if he drew near, but with Lu Jinhan, she couldn't sense his aura at all.

Watching Lu Jinhan's retreating figure, a deep intensity filled Su Rann's eyes.

She was aware that Lu Jinhan was a man best left alone, but she hadn't anticipated just how difficult he could be.

Regardless, she needed to find that key as quickly as possible!
