C47 Chi Xin Ate the Bitter Fruit of Her Own Actions
Chi Xin had not anticipated Su Rann's unyielding determination this time; she had never before chased after a matter with such tenacity.
She guiltily avoided Su Rann's gaze.
"Miss Chi, would you please come with me?" Nan Jun requested politely.
Chi Xin looked at Su Rann standing before her. She absolutely could not go to the hospital. If she did, it would be the end of her.
"Su Rann, may I have a word with you in private?" Chi Xin unclenched her fists and approached her.
A shadow of darkness flickered beneath Su Rann's eyes. "Say what you have to say right here!"
Su Rann believed there was nothing left to discuss between them.
"I'm hoping you'll give me a chance to explain," Chi Xin pleaded, desperate to avoid the hospital.
"Brother, let's step outside; it's just some girl stuff," Xiaxuan suggested, nudging Lo Boyuan to leave.
Lu Jinhan gave Su Rann a fleeting look. Her eyes were tranquil, mirroring the moon's reflection in an ancient tale, her frosty gaze exuding an icy authority.
He thought to himself that this woman was not likely to be at a disadvantage. With that, he strode away with his perfectly proportioned legs, followed by Nan Jun.
Now alone in the dressing room with Su Rann, Chi Xin approached her, attempting to take her hand.
Su Rann briskly shook off the attempt, her eyes suddenly growing colder.
"Su Rann, I was wrong this time. I confess, it was envy and jealousy of you. Please, don't make me go to the hospital for a check-up. I swear there won't be a next time!" Chi Xin implored with a woeful tone.
A sharp coldness crept into Su Rann's icy gaze. As Chi Xin tried to draw nearer, Su Rann moved to sit on a nearby chair.
She filled a cup with water, then abruptly poured out half.
"If you can reverse the spilling of water, then I'll forgive you," Su Rann said, her bright eyes narrowing, a fierce edge shining through.
"Su Rann, this is too much! How can spilled water be retrieved? You're clearly trying to make this impossible for me!"
Chi Xin had not expected Su Rann to make such a demand.
"Do you think I'm being unreasonable? What about the harm you've caused Liu Jiatong and the others? If you add just one gram of croton seed powder to their juice, you're putting their lives at risk!"
Her gaze sharpened, and Chi Xin found herself unable to meet Su Rann's piercing eyes.
"We have nothing to discuss. My reluctance to argue with you before wasn't because I couldn't expose your schemes; I simply couldn't be bothered to waste my time on someone so insignificant. You'll have to reap the bitter fruits of your own doing. Harboring ill will towards others is inexcusable, and you, you're rotten to the core!"
A chill emanated from Su Rann's porcelain-like face as she spoke. Without another word, she turned on her heel and strode away, not feeling an ounce of sympathy for such a woman. As for how Lu Jinhan would handle the situation, it was of no concern to her.
"Su Rann, don't act so high and mighty. You're just as vile!" Chi Xin ripped away her façade, her voice laden with accusation.
Since Su Rann wouldn't give her a chance, she was determined not to make things easy for her either. Su Rann's gaze, icy as a deep pool, swept over Chi Xin, halting her departure. She approached Chi Xin, who suddenly felt the weight of Su Rann's intimidating presence.
"What...what are you going to do?" Chi Xin stammered, sensing the overwhelming force emanating from Su Rann.
It was as if an army was charging at her, and as she met Su Rann's deadly stare, she spoke with a faltering voice. Then, a sharp slap resounded through the empty room.
"Didn't your parents ever teach you about respect?" Su Rann's presence was commanding.
Chi Xin was sent sprawling to the floor, having never witnessed Su Rann this fearsome in her anger.
"You... You dare to hit me?" Chi Xin whimpered, clutching her face.
The ferocity in Su Rann's eyes was more terrifying than any ghoul from the depths of hell. This woman was truly frightening.
"Don't make me repeat myself, or next time it won't be as simple as a slap!" Su Rann left with a cold huff, determined to teach her a lesson she wouldn't forget.
"Ms. Rann, are you okay?" Jiang Zhehan rushed to her side with concern as Su Rann emerged.
He was well aware of Chi Xin's character and feared that Ms. Rann might have been mistreated. Lu Jinhan and Lo Boyuan's expressions darkened upon seeing Jiang Zhehan approach Su Rann.
"I'm fine," she replied, her tone as serene as a gentle breeze.
"Mr. Han, we've received word from the hospital: they both indeed overdosed on croton seeds," Nan Jun reported with fidelity.
"Hand Chi Xin over to the police," commanded Lu Jinhan, his voice resonating with irrefutable authority.
Upon hearing this decree, Chi Xin's body went slack, and she collapsed to the floor in defeat.
Mu Feifei, on the other hand, had already sought refuge upon catching wind of the situation. She feared the repercussions might reach her.
Though she hadn't personally drugged Liu Jiatong and Tang Tang, she was indeed the one who had relayed certain crucial information.
Since learning of Chi Xin's fate, Mu Feifei had been distracted, her thoughts elsewhere. Her sole consolation was that Chi Xin hadn't implicated her as well.
In the aftermath of the banquet, Lu Jinhan had been visibly tense.
Upon his return to the Lu family home, he didn't bother to knock but instead barged straight into Su Rann's room.
"Why are you here?" Su Rann, who had been about to head to the bathroom, stopped short, a flicker of darkness flashing in her eyes at the sight of Lu Jinhan before her.
A formidable presence emanated from Lu Jinhan as he advanced toward Su Rann. The fluctuating orange light cast deep shadows across his face, his lips set in a tight line, betraying his foul mood.
"Do you have feelings for Lo Boyuan?" Lu Jinhan couldn't understand why the sight of Lo Boyuan gazing at Su Rann earlier that day had been so intolerable to him.
"Not at all!" she replied, eager to sidestep any unnecessary complications.
Against anyone else, Su Rann was confident in her ability to assert control, but with this man, her abilities seemed to fail her the moment she made contact. She was intent on keeping her distance.
Lu Jinhan's mood lightened slightly at her crisp response. Yet, when he noticed Su Rann's deliberate efforts to stay away from him, his gaze turned icy.
"You're afraid of me, aren't you?" he asked, standing with the commanding presence of the Dark Night King, his authority impossible to overlook.
Su Rann hadn't expected Lu Jinhan to have such an active imagination. She had never been afraid of anyone; she simply preferred to maintain a certain distance from him.
"Yes," she responded coolly, her eyes glinting with unmistakable sarcasm.
Lu Jinhan peered into her expressive eyes, unable to decipher her thoughts. However, one thing was clear to him: she was lying.
