C49 You Didn't Bring Your Brain with You When You Went out
"Can you all stop beating around the bush? You know I've been inquiring about that miraculous doctor lately. Everything I said earlier was sincere."
Nobody paid any mind to Ann Hao. Xiaxuan gave him an eye roll, clearly thinking this man left his brain at home.
When Lo Boyuan noticed Lu Jinhan moving closer to Su Rann, his lips twitched into a smile that was both awkward and polite.
Lu Jinhan was well aware of Lo Boyuan's attention and edged even closer to Su Rann.
"Can't you guys just give it to me straight? Are you trying to kill me with suspense?" Ann Hao said, half laughing, half exasperated.
In Lan City, with his influence, he still couldn't identify the divine doctor who had healed Lo Boyuan. It was obvious that this individual was heavily guarded.
Ann Hao was utterly fascinated by medicine. He couldn't believe that Lan City harbored such an influential figure.
He was aware that to truly locate this mysterious healer, his only leads were through Young Master Lo or Lu Jinhan.
And in Lan City, these two were akin to deities.
Extracting any information from them was akin to scaling the heavens!
"Rann, what have you been adding to the herbal tea? I've been feeling so revitalized, and my health improves with each passing day!" Lo Boyuan's smile was radiant, like the moon and stars.
His presence was always incredibly soothing.
"It's a blend of herbs specifically tailored for your recovery," Su Rann replied, feeling a sense of familiarity as if she were conversing with her senior brother.
Her senior brother was just as refined and elegant.
Lu Jinhan's expression darkened upon hearing Su Rann's words. She had been adding medicinal herbs to the tea solely for Lo Boyuan's benefit? Since when had she been so benevolent?
"Jinhan, it looks like I'll be collaborating with you two for the foreseeable future!" The smile on Lo Boyuan's face grew wider.
"What? No way!" Ann Hao's mouth gaped open in shock. What had he just heard?
Was it possible that Su Rann was the one who had cured Young Master Lo?
"Collaborating?" Lu Jinhan's lips curled into an indifferent smile as he toyed with his wine glass.
His gaze shifted to Su Rann, his eyes harboring an unreadable shadow.
As a man, he could certainly discern the thoughts behind Lo Boyuan's gaze.
"I don't want my woman to be overworked," Lu Jinhan's gaze turned frosty.
There was no room for negotiation with Lo Boyuan on this matter, friendship notwithstanding.
Lo Boyuan's grip on his cup tightened, yet a faint smile lingered on his lips. "Rann, what's your take on this?"
Both men turned their attention to Su Rann, who continued to eat, her expression cool and detached.
Their stares, one icy, the other fiery, seemed to blend in the air before converging on Su Rann.
Yet Su Rann appeared unaffected, her eyes reflecting an air of indifference, as if the matter was of no concern to her.
"Shall we focus on our meal?" Ann Hao interjected, cutting through the tension.
He could distinctly sense the oppressive aura emanating from Lu Jinhan and the rare assertiveness from Young Master Lo.
It took someone extraordinary like Su Rann to stir rivalry between two titans of Lan City.
"Young Master Lo, you're due for a comprehensive check-up at the hospital soon. If you're recovering well, then you should be back to normal," Su Rann said, wiping her hands with a grace that left no room for criticism.
Lu Jinhan observed the woman before him: composed, intelligent, decisive—nothing like the submissive Su Rann he remembered.
Without realizing it, he found his mood swayed by her presence.
"Young Master Lo, perhaps you and Miss Su could visit my hospital together?" suggested Ann Hao.
He had been eager to consult Su Rann on medical matters, but today's silent battlefield offered no such opportunity.
"Sounds good. How about tomorrow, Rann? Are you available?" Lo Boyuan asked, ever the gentleman.
"Absolutely," Su Rann replied without a moment's hesitation.
Lu Jinhan's expression darkened like the sky on the eve of a tempest, his chilly demeanor making it hard for Ann Hao to breathe.
"Rann, I'll accompany you tomorrow," Lu Jinhan declared, silencing the room.
Su Rann paused mid-motion. What had he just called her?
Rann?
She forced down her food, her thoughts elsewhere.
Lately, this man had been acting peculiar. She hadn't yet made a move on the key he possessed, had she?
"I need to step out for a bit," she said, rising to her feet with a defiant glint in her eyes.
Xiaxuan followed suit, approaching Su Rann. "Rann, what exactly is your relationship with Mr. Jinhan?" she inquired, a hint of suspicion in her voice. It was clear to her that her brother had feelings for Su Rann.
"It's exactly the relationship he described," Su Rann replied, seeing no reason to conceal the truth now that Lu Jinhan had acknowledged it.
"How could this happen?" Xiaxuan struggled to accept this revelation. She had never noticed her brother taking such a keen interest in any girl, and to think that Su Rann was actually Mr. Jinhan's girlfriend!
"Rann, do you have feelings for Mr. Jinhan?" Xiaxuan pressed, her gaze intense. This was a crucial issue concerning her brother's future happiness, and she needed to be thorough.
"Feelings?" The concept seemed distant to Su Rann. If she were to recall the flutter of youthful affection, it would take her back to a time long past when a masked man had rescued her. Yet, with her immortal life, she presumed that man had long since returned to the earth.
Throughout the years, she had never engaged in romance, nor had she come to understand what it meant to like someone. She was aware of her unique nature, knowing that a lasting relationship with anyone was impossible. Her heart had been sealed off long ago.
"If you'd rather not answer, that's okay," Xiaxuan said, reading the resignation in Su Rann's demeanor. It seemed there might still be hope for her brother.
"Rann, matters of the heart can't be forced. Always listen to your own heart," Xiaxuan advised.
Su Rann offered a wistful smile, a shadow passing briefly over her eyes. She too yearned for the simple pleasures of a normal life, marked by the changing seasons and shared meals. But she couldn't allow herself to love, having firmly shut her heart away to keep the world at bay.
For fear of loss, she dared not possess. There she stood, a solitary figure, her vulnerability stirring a sense of compassion.
Xiaxuan caught the look of desolation in Su Rann's eyes, feeling perplexed. It was a look that seemed out of place for a woman in her twenties, as if she had seen through the veneer of the world.
It exuded the poise and expertise characteristic of an elder gentleman!
