C5 Jade Buddha Replaced the Carrot
Huang Jiamin hadn't anticipated that Boss Chen would take a liking to that particular radish.
Her face was plastered with ingratiating smiles. "Boss Chen, if you fancy this radish, it's yours!"
To her, nothing could trump the prospect of discussing business with Boss Chen.
Catching a glimpse of the woman seated on the chair, exuding an air of aloofness, Boss Chen could tell she was no ordinary person.
She had to be a disciple or friend of that legendary healer; otherwise, she wouldn't possess such a rare half ginseng.
"Why would it end up in the trash can?" Boss Chen mused, his expression turning frosty as he regarded Huang Jiamin.
"This... This is because today we're celebrating the old lady's birthday, and she brought over half a radish!"
Huang Jiamin's gaze fell upon Su Rann, who remained seated, her inner fury smoldering.
"I just so happen to collect various kinds of radishes!"
He had not foreseen such ignorance from these people. He stole a glance at Su Rann, who offered no explanation. He understood that the more prestigious individuals often couldn't be bothered to justify themselves to others.
"That's perfect, as the radish is of no use to us here!" Huang Jiamin, noticing a shared interest with Boss Chen, redoubled her efforts to please.
"Su Rann, aren't you going to pick up the radish?"
Lin Manyin's eyes were like daggers laced with venom, wishing she could tear her apart.
Boss Chen's face grew even more somber upon hearing their commands.
"Who discarded it? They should be the one to pick it up," he said, his voice tinged with unmistakable anger.
"Hold on!"
As they were about to retrieve the radish, a chilling voice rang out.
Su Rann spoke icily, her piercing gaze settling on them.
Boss Chen regarded her with newfound respect. She might well be the disciple or friend of the miraculous doctor, and her assistance could prove invaluable should he ever need to seek the doctor's help.
"Su Rann, take a seat!" Lin Manyin sneered dismissively.
This was no place for her to speak up.
"If Boss Chen desires this radish, then she can fetch it from the trash herself!" Su Rann declared, pointing at Lin Manyin.
"Su Rann, do you realize what you're saying?"
"Su Rann, how dare you speak like that? It's preposterous!"
The crowd around her pointed accusingly.
"I apologize, Boss Chen, but if I don't take this stance, I have no intention of handing it over to you!"
Her voice was flat, her gaze harboring an unreadable emotion.
Upon hearing her declaration, Boss Chen approached Huang Jiamin.
"Mrs. Lu, regarding our partnership..."
He fidgeted with the ring in his hand, his tone laced with a hint of insolence.
Huang Jiamin shot her a piercing look, her hands balling into fists involuntarily.
"Manyin, pick it up!" she commanded, her voice strained.
Lin Manyin had never been subjected to such humiliation. Was she really being asked to rummage through a trash can?
She was the duly wedded Second Young Madam of the prestigious Lu family!
But for the sake of this deal, she would bear it.
Yet, she knew that in time, she would have countless ways to exact her revenge and teach her a lesson about the dignity of being human.
With a look of disgust, Lin Manyin retrieved the half-eaten radish from the garbage.
Boss Chen, however, treasured it as if it were a priceless find.
"I never take things without giving something in return. This jade Buddha I carry has been consecrated and is offered as a token of my respect."
He produced the jade Buddha and presented it to Su Rann.
If Lin Manyin's bracelet was valued at a hundred thousand, then Boss Chen's jade Buddha was surely worth over ten million!
